Why the question OP? did your spouse call you OCD? Or do you find it helpful with portions? Land o Lakes sells half stick portions in the 1lb carton, maybe you would find it easier to eyeball the half of that, and half of that other one.

I don't use butter portions. I use what the job needs to be done right. Sometimes it's a couple of tablespoons, and other times, it's a scant teaspoon.

I'd guess that added surface exposure to air will increase the rate of spoilage, but unless you keep it for many months I doubt that matters. Seems like a smart idea for measuring faster.
