Use hydrogen peroxide. Put about half an inch worth into the pot and bring it to a rolling simmer. Dump in two tablespoons of baking soda at that point and stir it a bit and allow it to simmer for 15-20 minutes.

After that you can give it a go or let it soak further. It breaks the bonds of the material clinging to your pot. Rinse and repeat if anything is left after the first pass.
