It used to be strong coffee among the literati back in the day, and in France it was the good old green fairy (but that's because it was dirt cheap and being an artist doesn't tend to pay much). Nowadays I'd say tea and certain craft beers, but I think the true intellectuals just drink what they want to and enjoy themselves accordingly.
