Typical for breakfast/diners. They brush the butter on when it comes out of the hot toaster. It actually peeves some people that their butter doesn't melt on toast that has cooled down. People _like_ that, unless they want to control their fat calories. Due to the latter, not as many places butter for you much anymore.
