Pic related, was surprised by how good this is.

At this point some Hibiki or Karuizawa, can't find it, more importantly can't afford it.

Last Drink: Michters American Whiskey.

Next Purchase: High West Campfire or Benromach 15.

Dream Bottle: Glencadam 19 Year Old Sherry Cask.

>>8463740
Opt for the Nikka Coffey Grain or any Nikka Single Malts. IMO, better than Hibiki and yet cheaper.

>>8464012
Dalmore is okay. Doesn't get amazing until you get the 15 year old. There's better out there for less money.

I got a free handle of Woodford Reserve from one of my bosses, liking it so far.
Was also given a fifth of Tim Smith's Climax Moonshine and a small oak barrel as a Christmas gift. The "moonshine" was pretty fucking gross, but it's been in the barrel for a little over a week now. I had some last night and it smelled worse but tastes a bit better. I'm pretty excited to see how it changes.

probably nothing anytime soon, whiskey-wise. I have AnCnoc 12, Glenfarclas 12, Talisker 10, Green Label, Yoichi 15, Weller 12, IW Harper 15, and Makers 46 that I haven't even opened, and about 20 I have open.

I dunno. I'm still looking for something on the budget end of things to drink every night (I'm al/ck/), but I'm not sure if this fits the bill.

It's definitely better than Evan Williams which was my go-to. But I'm open to suggestions.

Anyone else think that the high corn bourbons being shilled are complete shit? Stuff like Eagle Rare is absolutely disgusting. It just tastes like Southern Comfort. I haven't yet tried Buffalo Trace or Stagg Jr but I suspect they are both equally shit since it's the same exact juice (minus some age and proof-cutting)

I tried Willett Pot Still Reserve and it was so much more refined and flavorful. Also had some Laphroaig quarter cask which is great too
>>
>>8466540
I did not like Eagle Rare, found it too sweet. Buffalo Trace is a God tier budget bourbon though, and noticeably less sweet.

If you like Laphroaig then your palette probably just prefers peaty or smoky whisky. And I'm pretty much the same way, i did shill that Hudson Baby Bourbon earlier though, it's 100% corn distilled but I didn't find it sweet at all.

Try a Speyside or Lowland scotch next time. Those are a fruitier (Speyside) or more mellow scotch than like an Islay. Kudos to those anons that can drink those, those burn and taste like peat to me.

To me all of them taste almost the same just different bottle shapes and some have fancier labels.
>>
>>8471118
You should cut it with some water 1:3 ratio if you really want to get the nuances of taste rather than the burning from the alcohol.

But go to a bar and try a Glenlivet vs Glenfiddich. Or better yet the Glenlivet vs an Islay scotch, like Laphroaig.

Guys, you told me Bulleit was good. Why did you lie?
>>
>>8472376
you see as I said here >>8471118
all that paranoia is just marketing and false advertising, they all taste more less the same at first two sips after that nobody can tell the difference.
>>
>>8466441
whiskey is kind of an aquired taste, at first you mostly taste burning, the nuances come later when you know how to deal with the alcohol

its not a meme, you are just to new to drink hard spirits like this
>>
>>8463730
>>8466960
gr8 stuff, that was my last glass

>>8467200
chivas is not good, bushmills 10 is the same price and way better (its my goto whiskey if i want to drink with friends, because its "cheap" and good for beginners)

>>8467569
lavavulin 16 is a nice peaty malt
have you tried the quarter cask laphroaig? its even peatier

i also have a flask of glen garioch 12, nice highland whiskey
>>
>>8472644
>its not a meme, you are just to new to drink hard spirits like this
sounds like pathetic attempts to justify wasting so much money on something that is nothing special and coming out with all that spin that you
>are just to new to drink hard spirits like this
if something is good you can taste that right a'way, only questionable products require complex tricks to hypnotize others that your money were wisely wasted.
Nothing but cheap marketing tricks to justify buying expensive nothing special booze luring snobs to part with their money and to make them feel good about it.
>>
>>8472376

>that's a real bulleit ad
wtf i hate bulleit now
>>
>>8472742
congratulations you are not a snob.
>>
>>8472690
yeah as with really spicy foods?
most people dont eat spicy foods because too spicy
but if you are used to the spicyness you taste different flavors

its kind of the same with whisky, most people think 40% alcohol is pretty hard, but there are whiskeys that have even over 50% alcohol.

i dont give a shit about what you think, i dont need to justify anything lol, i drink it because i think it tastes good, not to say how much i know about whiskey or anything

20-70 euros is the zone where the price/benefit is good, under 20€ it usually tastes bad because it hastnt matured yet and over 80€ you wont taste that much difference to the 50€ bracket

also see this post
>>8472660
as you see my goto is clocking in at about 25€ which is not that expensive for a whiskey
