Red, carmine dye is made from the chochineal. A south American flying insect. It's extracted from a gland that produces it. The substance is what the insect uses to deter predators. Using a very small amount of it in you batter should give it a pinkish color.

It's natural, but not particularly pleasant to think about.

it depends on what you want to dye though.
raspberry paste is only suitable if you want to dye ingredients that won't be baked like buttercream etc. (and of course only if you want the taste of raspberry in it- would work with basically any red fruit).
Pretty much the same applies to other natural dyes as they usually fade or even change colour completly when exposed to heat (e.g. baking).
Red can change to green if the dough is too alkaline, often happens with blueberry muffins. That can be prevented by adding acidity, but i'm not sure if that would actually work well enough for a satisfactory result.

Strawberry, cranberry, or raspberry if you're using a milk base. If you're going to incorporate something more acidic/basic, use beet juice. Betalains are more pH stable than anthocyanins.
