Is soup a meal?

Do Americans really eat soup?
Really makes you think
>>8461450
No, but stew is
tomato soup + bread = go za = meal
so sure, if you get a side of bread
soup is not a meal by itself
soup is a meal if a grilled cheese is involved
but if it's any other sandwich then the soup is not a meal but becomes a side item to the sandwich
A soup that's more liquid...no.
A soup like chicken noodle or stew, where it's a lot of solid...yes
Soup with a side like salad or a sandwich...yes
If you know how to make one, definitely. Make the stock by simmering bones for at least six hours, then tell me it's not filling.
To be fair, I'm not fat.

weird looking soup, do australians really eat this?

I unironically like the IKEA cutlery design

So your deciding factor is how many solids are in the soup?
If I freeze a thin soup does it become a meal?
P>>8461450
Probably not, though I do eat it, as, either with croutons or some roasted bread on the side.
Obviously need some snack later on the evening.

this chinese restaurant my family and i normally meet up at makes a really decent hot and sour soup and that is pretty much all i eat when i go there.

depends on how "hearty" the soup is. if its got lots of proteins or dairy in it then its passable (chicken noodle, cream of mushroom, gumbo, black bean, pho with sliced beef).
if its anything less then you are going to need a sandwich or some bread to go with (minestrone, tomato, french onion).
>>8461450
If you make it rich enough, sure.

I'm not even American but

I have come to my own conclusions about any soup that isn't absolutely homemade.
Basically, if I eat instant ramen noodles or chicken noodle soup from a can, I drain out the soup/broth part after it's been cooked and just eat the hot wet noodles. My reasoning for this is that I believe that such a soup from those packaged things is just all going to be flavored salt water with zero nutritional value.
However. if you made soup from home with fresh vegetables, I see nothing bad with that. You're drinking any nutrients that were excreted into the water.
