Should non plain bagels be sweet or savory? Personally, I don't care for things like cinnamon raisin or things like that, rather have cheese or seed
not sure.
ONION BAGELS RULE
Poppyseed bagels or asiago bagels are top tier
They should be lightly sweet like any good boiled bagel should be.
Savory is best.

I've always considered a bagel to be a dessert. They're so dense and weighty. If you're going to have a savory sandwich, you might as well just use bread. With bagels, though, I like to keep it simple. Nothing hits the spot like a lemon cranberry bagel with butter, a chocolate bagel with peanut butter, or a cinnamon raisin with PB&J. Blueberry is great with all of the above spreads as well.

The best bagels are toasted open faced, so you get the crispy chewy thing going on with the centers. My favorites are everything, sesame or salt bagel (hard to find salt bagels except at a bakery when it's not fresh). I can deal with other flavors, from egg to asiago, but I think sweet bagels are 2nd tier to say raisin cinnamon bread, cranberry scones or blueberry muffins where it is done better in those forms. Nothing is stopping you from making your compound cream cheese, from honey-orange zest to toasted nuts.
Nothing makes me happier than a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, dill and cucumbers. I'm not into the salmon thing. A creamy egg salad is also good on top of a pumpernickel bagel.
