True. Comes in handy especially with things like hot chocolate. Also good for softening/thawing things like butter/frozen meat.

And speaking of heating drinks (sorta): you can microwave things like breads and vegetables without them getting soggy/gross by microwaving a half-full mug of water with your food (e.g. stick a whole hamburger in the microwave, and a mug of water along with it and voila, hot non-mushy burger). There might be some limits to this trick, but I have nuked whole sandwiches and they come out great

Yeah if all you do is use them to heat up yesterday's pizza or get disgusting prepackaged microwave dinners you're going to wreck yourself, but there's nothing inherently wrong with microwaves.
