I'll start:

>expiry date on honey
>>
>>8420018
That might be for the plastic instead, ASSUMING it's actual, real, botulism-with (which is normal and why not to give to infants) honey
>>
>The year of our Lord 2017
>STILL don't know the difference between "best before/sell by" and "expiry date"
>>
>>8420021
Does this sentence make sense to anyone?
>>
>>8420028
I think he's saying the plastic will expire before the honey does, so long as it is real, not artificial honey and carries botulism, which, by the way, is why you don't give honey to babies.
>>
>>8420027
>implying such a thing as 'best before' applies to an essentially immortal substance like honey

Unless the packaging is sub-standard, it will literally remain unchanged for centuries.
>>
>>8420049
90% of the time in any food product these dates are just to get you to throw it away so you can buy more
Obviously honey is just HFCS, and will therefore last a long fucking time but people just assume old things are bad so if you put a date on it they will throw it out and buy more
>>
>>8420049
The standard packaging still leaches off-flavors into the food over time, smart guy
>>
>>8420018

>What are some of the biggest scams in the food industry?

Diet soda
Sugar free candy
Eating Subway makes you lose weight
Kale
Toaster Strudel are better than pop-tarts
>>
>>8420059

>Obviously honey is just HFCS
>>
>>8420049
>essentially immortal substance like honey

You're a very silly person. Honey absorbs moisture from the air and eventually spoils due to this. Honey in a container like a vacuum-sealed jar will probably keep indefinitely until opened; honey is a shitty plastic container will probably eventually expire, unopened, due to slowly leaching moisture through the seals.
>>
>>8420018
The FDA requires a best buy/sell by date on all food products sold in stores.

Even if the product itself will never "expire" this is required by law.

As a result many companies just use the date of 1-2 years after date of manufacture.
>>
>>8420065
Honey is pretty much HFCS, no microbes will grow in these concentrated sugar solutions because there isn't enough water
>>
>>8420060

It is but the way people eat it is not

Kale smoothie is the only way to eat kale, that way I won't have that shitty plant taste in my mouth
>>
>>8420069

How does it feel, being objectively and morally wrong?
>>
>>8420077
What are you trying to imply?
>>
>>8420078

>>Toaster Strudel are better than pop-tarts is a scam

Exactly

Toaster Strudels are not better than pop-tarts
>>
Salsa is grossly overpriced in my opinion. There is no way some tomato paste mixed with spices and meme vegetables could possibly cost that much
>>
>>8420116
Its crazy how expensive the higher quality salsas are
>>
>>8420116

....just like any other premade food, Anon. You're paying the dumb tax if you don't make it yourself.
>>
>>8420069
>Honey = HFCS

Wow, bees have started using the glucose isomerases process to convert glucose from corn starch into fructose. Better watch those crafty devils, I think they might become a bigger threat than illegal aliens.
>>
>>8420142
lol, the process is slightly different, but chemically and therefore nutritiously they are very similar
>>
>>8420018
Fettuccine Alfredo at restaurants.

90 cents of materials and they have the nerve to charge you 15 bucks for it.
>>
>>8420116
>tomato paste

what the fuck kind of salsa are you making
>>
>>8420149
>chemically and therefore nutritiously they are very similar
>Hydrogen peroxide & water are very close chemically so they're both good to drink

Ohio pls
>>
>>8420330
thats not what chemically similar means. HFCS and honey are primarily made up of the same chemical compound in very similar ratios, not simply made of chemicals formed from similar atoms as you are implying
Not sure if you are trying to be facetious or are just dumb
>>
>>8420149
I think what he means is that HFCS is corn syrup and comes from corn, and honey does not come from corn. yes they're similar in composition because honey is mostly fructose, but it's a bit misleading to call it "pretty much HFCS" as the name HFCS denotes the origin of the fructose. it'd be more accurate to just say honey is pretty much just fructose.

>What is opportunity cost

Unless what you make at home is better for you and/or it tastes better, you are actually losing time, money and energy by making your own food.
>>
>>8420341
Except that my entire point is that the origin doesn't matter, only the empirical qualities of the substance when it comes to chemicals and their effects on humans
I was mostly just trying to draw attention to how similar honey and HFCS are and contrast that with how wildly different society's attitude toward these things is
>>
>>8420339
>HFCS and honey are primarily made up of the same chemical compound in very similar ratios

I was being lazy. There are plenty of isomers which are entirely different compounds.
>>
>>8420348
>how wildly different society's attitude toward [honey & HFCS] is

That's because one is produced through hard work and honest labor, and the other is produced through theft, lobbying and government subsidies.
>>
>>8420085
Wrong
>>
>>8420369
>That's because one is produced through hard work and honest labor,
How is exploiting innocent animals honest labor?
I'm fully against the tax policies that support HFCS, but its a fucking absurd assertion to claim that such policies are behind HFCS's bad PR
>>
>>8420364
Still, when people use the term "chemically similar" they are talking about their chemical properties, not superficial similarities
>>
>>8420404
No one is forcing the bees to make honey; they make it whether you eat it or not.
>>
>>8420408
Yeah, and then you fucking steal it from them
>>
>>8420413
It's a harsh universe. They still made it through honest labor.
>>
>>8420427
Stealing from animals is not any more or less honest than stealing from taxpayers
>>
>>8420431
The bees aren't stealing from anyone. Their labor is honest. The Ohio corn grower is not.
>>
>>8420441
um, yeah, you are stealing from the bees
>>
>>8420447
And? That's between me and the bees.

Except multiple studies over decades showing that switching from conventional produce to organic will significantly lower the amount of pesticides found in your body.

>Organic Diets Significantly Lower Children’s Dietary Exposure to Organophosphorus Pesticides
>We conclude that organic diets provide a protective mechanism against OP pesticide exposure in young children whose diets regularly consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, fruit juices, and wheat-containing items. Such protection is dramatic and immediate. This is particularly true for certain OP pesticides, such as chlorpyrifos and malathion, as measured in this study, and is probably true for other OP pesticides such as azinphosmethyl, dimethoate, and acephate, which are registered only for agricultural production.

Oh brilliant! And just how many organic farmers have you talked to? How many farms have you visited? None.

No petroleum based or manufactured fertilizers or herbicides are permitted. Yes, Pyrethrin broad spectrum pesticides are permited, but no reputable organic grower routinely uses them. It defeats the whole purpose. We use other methods like crop rotation, proper disposal of plant residue, developing environments that attract predator insects and other animals, insecticidal soaps, and insectcidal specific biological agents like BTk.

I've grown organic on 1/2 acre for the last 5 years and only once had to use Pyrethrin on a small patch of legumes. Stop following the bullshit Alex Jones or Breitbart tells you.

1. water and hydrogen peroxide are not isomers, they are radically different, chemically.

2. HFCS is water, fructose, and glucose. Honey is water, fructose, and glucose. And trace amounts of other shit. We're not even talking different isomers, just different percentages.

HFCS is about 55% fructose, 45% glucose.

Honey is about 50% fructose, 40% glucose, and 10% maltose.

If they changed the name to High Fructose Bee Syrup people would be freaking out, saying they could taste the difference, and claim it was giving them tumors.
>>
>>8425833
Fructose level varies depending on the pollen sources. Typical samples of wildflower honey indicate fructose levels in the upper 30%, not 50%. So no, the sugar composition of honey is not the same as HFCS. Analysis of HFCS samples indicate a small percentage of byproducts from the industrial conversion of cornstarch glucose to fructose, as well.

All in all, wildflower honey is a much better choice for a sweetener than the government welfare subsidized HFCS. But the fact is, if you don't ingest amerifat mass produced and processed garbage that pretends to be food and drink, you needn't ever come in contact with HFCS. That's how sensible people avoid it. Coincidentally, they tend to be /fit/ter and don't suffer from 'beetus.

If you are unenlightened simply set your conventional toaster oven to 4 and let the magic take place. The result will be a crisp, browned, delicious strudel. BUT HOLD ON, the journey is not over yet brother, the placement of the icing is the critical factor; any run-off will ruin your strudel. Like the application of thermal paste the icing must be distributed very carefully, i myself am a supporter of the X pattern as it ensures maximum coverage. Roast your stuff on a grill. It will cook down and get rid of the water in them.

1. Throw some jalapenos, garlic, and tomatillos on a flat grill pan. Cook the tomatillos down until they are brown all over. Don't burn the garlic, and roast the jalapenos.
2. Throw this into the blender with some chicken stock. And a 1/4 onion and fresh chopped cilantro. Black pepper, and a dash of salt.
3. Blend
4. Enjoy this yummy salsa. I use this as a base for Chile verde.

If you live in Haiti. In the US (which is one of the largest consumers of bottled water in the world), all public water is regulated and tested multiple times daily.

You mean surimi? What kind of shitty place do you live in to be sold surimi under the name "crab meat" and not "imitation/fake crab"?

"Everything in moderation."

I know that's controversial, but most people are fucking idiots and have no idea what "moderation" is. Okay, maybe that's a bit harsh, but the eating part of the human brain isn't much different to that of a bear's, so vague phrases like "everything in moderation" are about as helpful as trying to spit on a China Syndrome.

I like beer, but I do hate pretentious alcohol.

I don't give a shit what kind of wood your whisky was aged in, moron. I prefer vodka anyway.

Bees going extinct is the biggest meme in conerservatiosn. There are over 600 MILLION honeybees in the American west coast ALONE. Bees could easily pollenate every plant in the entire world 10 times over inside 5 hours if they wanted. The issue isn't bees dying, it is a poor work ethic held by modern bees, created by modern beekeeping techniques that encourage lazy sit at home bees. Bees are the issue and people defend them with this pathetic 'muh poor bees' story. The worst part is that bees are an intelligent species - they KNOW humanity needs them and are deliberarly not working.

>tfw prefer Coke Zero to coke
desu, and purely anecdotal, but back when I switched from Coke to Coke Zero, and changed nothing else in my diet, I lost 15 lbs over a few months. Granted, I was never obese, just a little overweight. I also eat fairly well and don't sit on my ass at work. Pop is just empty calories; while no pop is definitely better, cutting those calories out makes a difference.

nah, only raw. cooked it's debatable, but most people don't like it that way
Broccoli is almost the exact opposite, awful raw but cooked very awesome in many dishes

>The recommended eight glasses of water a day, at U.S. tap rates equals about $.49 per year; that same amount of bottled water is about $1,400.
Bullshit.

The whole 8 glasses of water a day shit is misleading. Many doctors have said it's 8x8, meaning 8 servings of 8 ounces. Others say it is half your body weight in ounces.

If we are to assume that it is the standard 8x8, you would be consuming 64 ounces of water from a bottle per day. That comes out to 23360 ounces per year. A standard water bottle where I am from holds 16.9oz. 23360 divided by 16.9 is 1382. Most people buy bottled water by the case, and most cases have 24 bottles in them. 1382 divided by 24 is 57. Each case of water costs, at a high estimate, around 8 dollars. 57 cases of water a year at 8 dollars each is 456 dollars.

Fuck your bullshit source

From the moment you begin to get ready to leave, to the time you are back home and settled in, you will have always used more time that if you had cooked and washed for yourself. So there is no time benefit there. Pasta does not require any particular level of competence. You aren't getting anything special with pasta in a restaurant.

>Honey is pretty much HFCS, no microbes will grow in these concentrated sugar solutions because there isn't enough water
This isn't true. Osmophilic microorganisms can grow on low water activity substrates, for example Wallemia species are commonly found on chocolate, candy, salted fish, etc.

Honey has a water activity (aw) of around 0.6; fungi like Saccharomyces rouxii and Xeromyces bisporus can grow around this aw.

The low water activity of sugary substrates greatly reduces the number of fungi capable of colonization, but the fact is honey further inhibits moulds due to the presence of fungistatic and fungicidal compounds.

To say honey = HFCS is incorrect. Honey is a complex heterogeneous blend of chemicals originating from the pollen source and the bees.
