I used to eat at restaurants alone many times, I travelled as part of my job and would often eat out, away from the Hotel I was staying at.

I have never had any problems and a lot of restaurants have simple little tables in the corner for business travellers.

Attitude helps a lot and the reason why you're going changes the nature a lot. I just like to try things and get certain foods I personally suck at making. (I can't fucking cook fish to save my life for example.)

When i waited tables, i loved single tables. Usually never happened during peak time but slow times, they rarely require more than 5 minutes of my time per hour and i get an extra 2-3 dollars for next to no work.

I just can't see it making sense to tip 20%+ in that sort of situation where you are taking such a minuscule amount of the waiter's time. Usually in groups you have the 'tard that wastes the waiter's time by trying to decide their order on the spot, but by yourself you don't have to rely on other people.
