There are very many mediocre wines out there, blends allow a better flavor profile. It's a good way to mix the best charactetistics of different wines together and get rid of excessive flavor or bitterness.

Never. Blended wines are the only wines to drink. Everything else is shit, and whoever doesn't drink blended wine needs to kill themselves.

Cheap boxed red wine mixed with coke is actually quite nice and not nearly as bad as it sounds. Experienced it when I was in living in Italy, but I believe it's a Spanish invention.

But I prefer to go for specific types of grape because I generally know what to expect. Blends can be a bit less certain
