Why, just why? Ginger is not hard, or even obnoxious, to chop. I can understand anchovy paste, perhaps even tomatoe paste, from a tube. Ginger? No.

i agree. I just got a couple of tubes on sale. Seems easy, by yeah, I have no problem shredding.

Protip:
Get one of those apple graters (level plane with small spikes and a collection basin) to grate and not shred your ginger. If you put some cellophane wrap on the grater first, no cleanup necessary.
As an added bonus, you can now also make simple applesauce and grate some ginger with that grater to boot.

cool, will try.
What are some good savory dishes to use ginger in that aren't Asian cuisine?

I just did some ginger green beans for Thanksgiving. Just parboil the beans in salty water, then heat oil and sliced garlic in pan until fragrant, then add ginger, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Toast together for 30 seconds, add beans and stir fry for 3 minutes. Came out delicious.
