Pro tip: keep the white stalks and put them in a glass of water, when the roots start coming out transfer them to a little pot with some soil on the windowsill. After a week or two, boom, you just got double the amount in one purchase.

That's good to know and I do kind of what to try it,

But green onions only cost like $0.48 for a decent bundle at my local grocery, so I don't know if it's really worth the effort.

They're called Spring Onions in Britain, good with salad but I often eat them as a snack after dipping them in cream cheese or Philadelphia™ - although I do it more often with crab sticks nowadays.
