Do you anonians have one of these? How often do you use it? And for what? Nutmeg, hard cheese, chocolate?

Yep, have 2.
I use them for hard cheeses, nutmeg, chocolate, citrus zests of all kinds, sieving eggs for certain dishes, shaving certain vegetables and fungi, all kinds of stuff. It's indispensable.

fresh horseradish
sometimes lemons but i am a klutz and tend to microplane my fingers when I do those.
>>8249299
Nutmeg, citrus peel and raw ginger is all I ever use mine for.

>indispensable
I have a box grater with a very fine side, not comparable?
>>8249339
Not really. I also have box grater with fine side, but it's not the same. Microplanes are like a slew of tiny razor blades. Very sharp, clean, thin cuts.
Mostly for cheese, occasionally for garlic. The grater and the food processor do most of my work so this is a pretty niche tool for me.

I'm still not sure if I should get one of these or a mortar and pestle.
>>8249458
They're for completely different purposes.
>>8249460
I wanted one for nutmeg and cinnamon but I don't know which will be better.
>>8249464
Microplane is faster and easier in my opinion and has other uses like citrus peels.
>>8249468
Thanks, anon. How long do these stay sharp for? If still ate citrus peels, I would have gotten it already, but sadly I can't find any citrus that isn't sprayed to hell.
they're like, 10 bucks...not sure why any kitchen would not have one after getting mine.
for stuff like parmesan it just exceeds a normal grater by a huge margin, also good for chocolate, etc
>>8249474
I've had mine for years and it still seems to work perfectly fine. Plus a GOOD one is like 15 bucks so they're disposable.
>>8249299
mostly hard cheeses, roots like ginger/turmeric and citrus peels as other anons have stated.
>>8249486
I was going to order one on Amazon but they seem to have too many problems with knockoff kitchen tools. I wanted some new measuring cups and spoons, too, but apparently they're all shit. I guess I'll have to go to the store.
>>8249502
I only buy heavy equipment online, like blenders and shit. Anything I need to use by hand I'll at least check out in store first because it needs to feel good.
>>8249299
You nailed it, op. Also you can use it for garlic.
