Yeah but I can see the flavors working well together even though I've never had it. Maybe use the au jus as the beef stock for the french onion soup? Would that even work? Maybe just dip it in both? I've dipped french dips in horseradish sauce and au jus. Why not au jus and french onion soup?

Anyway I have had a similar sandwich. Lunch at a steakhouse was yesterdays prime rib cooked in jus and topped with grilled onions and gruyere, served with french onion soup on the side, it was pretty good.
