Didn't see one so I decided to start one
What are you drinking? What are you looking forward to? Post anything beer related
Pic related is what I am drinking right now
Still have a couple of these left from when I went to Belgium.
The abbey was in the middle of fucking nowhere and the cafe was still absolutely packed.
>>8205164
Just had the coffee stout from my local brewery last night. It's one of my favorites but it's been on randomly ever since they've started trying to distribute kegs.
Today I'll be going to a brewer's guild beer fest. Shit's gonna be great, seeing as I have a bunch of left over tokens from the last one I went to.
A classic for me, La Chouffe
Photo of current stock. Got the Xocoveza today.
ITS HERE
>>8206649
Ohhhhh shit. Store?
Had some Zombie Dust last night; by far one of my favorites.
>>8206662
Grabbed it at Peabody's Wine & Beer in Boone, NC. Apparently Founders made a lot more than they usually do, so theres a lot more to go around now. Music to my ears.
Taste is amazing, even better than last year's. Waves of oak and bourbon. Cant say much for whats available where you're at, but I'm getting way more of an American oak vibe from the barrels I've tried. Waves of vanilla and caramel. It's glorious.
>tfw Bell's Amber Ale
this shit is so good
>>8206714
Oh shit I can't wait til we get it in Chicago.
Tonight I'm having lagunitas born yesterday, off color scurry, and maybe one of my Firestone Walker barrel aged with the grilled Cornish hens I'm going to make.
>>8206879
Oh, and the Cornish hens will be misquite smoked while the firestone walker choices are helldorado and velvet merkin.
Which do you think would pair better?
Is grapefruit ipa a meme beer?
What I'm drinking at the minute. Lovely actually, can't help but think it would be brilliant in a beef stew.
>>8206912
meme? maybe.
low effort "craft" beer, yes.
>>8206912
citradelic or go home
So today I went to a in-house meeting by our nations public procurement department.
Ofcourse, in the end they had one of those 'drinks & networking' to finish things up.
Being not good at socialising I quickly turned to the bar. This being the government, they had some damn good locally brewed pricey beer. Pic related
As a broke college student I am indulging myself this weekend with the champagne of beers
Got a few PBRs on the backburner too
Looking for more winter releases here in the PNW
Did I fuck up spending $12 on this?
>>8207385
12 dollars for a 6 pack of craft belgian? Yes, you fucked up a little. I wouldn't pay more than 9 dollars for it
beginning dump of latest beers.

>>8207403
Dun did good
We just got their citra at my store (I work there)
The Cornish hens turned out great. Misquite works perfectly with it. Had a nice pink smoke ring and everything. Kind of mauled them a bit when there was a flare up that wouldn't die, but they were delicious. Had a New Glarus cranberry lambic with it.
>>8207385
Golden monkey is pretty overpriced, and its a pretty mediocre tripel. If you want a good American made one that's not too hard to get, try Troeg's LaGrave or Blind Squirrel. If you want something actually high quality, try something like Westmalle tripel or La Fin Du Monde.
>>8206649
I remember browsing the beer store one day and left that on the shelf because I hadn't heard of it at that time. I still kick myself over that.
I need to see if they have any in stock around here. That shit is excellent.
>>8206879
I saw it at the grocery store in Milwaukee today, so its probably in Chicago too
>>8207591
Also, I bought some of this stuff today, excellent newer brewery
I'm heading down to work soon, and I think we're got this really good APA on tap that I'm going to try
>>8207603
oh shit, also had some Black Husky Pale Ale, Citra Version today, which was absolutely amazing, right up there with Pseudo Sue and Zombie Dust
OP here, bought a bottle of this yesterday and trying it out for the first time right now
Kind of underwhelming porter but has a strong finish. 7.5% in case you were wondering
>>8207843
Are other beers from that brewery anything special? Seen it around but not in person
>>8207843
>>8205164
Nice porters. I'm drinking this one from a really good New Jersey brewery.
>>8207969
Honestly never tried anything else from that brewery but might look into it. After finishing the bottle I will say it wasn't that bad, definitely give it a try if you see it but i've had better porters
Who /Hefe-weizen/ here? Currently drinking a Paulaner
The oktoberfest version is shit
>>8206621
Xocoveza is pretty good, just got a six pack recently.
OP here again
Just tried this campfire stout. Honestly takes me back to my days in boy scouts, it really does have a strong taste of smores with marshmallow in particular taking center stage
Definitely recommended if you ever see it. Has a nice taste and strong finish. Only 6.5%
>>8208171
Paulaner is pretty meh in general. I prefer Franziskaner or Weihenstephaner.
>>8208426
Not the same guy but I actually prefer paulaner hefe to the other two. It has a faint smokiness to it that I love. At least it did last time I had it. It's been a few years.
>>8207978
Cute label. Would buy it on that alone.
>>8208787
Yeah they have got a nice simple style. No goofy names on their beers either.
Had this not too long ago. The bourbon has really smoothed out, very enjoyable but kinda pricey.
>>8205368
12 or 13?
just bought a bottle of this
>>8209638
Good choice. Their coffee stout is great as well, and only 5$ near me.
>>8209662
pretty much all of Central Waters 22oz bottles and 4 pack stuff is amazing
Their older 6 pack beers are mostly meh, but they are really an excellent brewery now
>>8209674
Their horseshoes and hand grenades apa was bretty gud this summer. I think rush river out did then on the pale ale though
>>8209686
Yeah, I thought the HHG was pretty good. haven't tried any Rush River stuff, which of their stuff is worth trying? I see it at grocery stores sometimes but never tried any
>>8209702
Double bubble is a good hop slam replacement imo. That and their pale ale are all I can endorse. Haven't tried much else from them desu.
>burgers will never try the best beer in the world
I almost feel bad for you

>>8207425
Supposed to drink that shit from the can!
It's finally getting colder in California so I can justify drinking this at 3 PM.
>>8207425
im so fucking triggered that you poured that you mong
>>8210170
even the guy on the can poured it into a glass though. It's a very contradictory can.
My local Kansas City brewery Boulevard just put out Funky Pumpkin, a sour spiced pumpkin ale. It's AMAZING. never find good sour beers this cheap.
>>8210277
stay in kansas
>>8210289
what's your beef bruv. Also whenever people talk about Kansas City they mean Missouri.
>>8210170
Do east coasters seriously not pour that shit into a glass?
>>8210277
>>8210296
You're not supposed to
>>8210309
Ask the brewer
>>8210324
I mean I have your attention right now and not his, so I would rather just ask you
>>8210326
And I have no idea why, it just says so on the can.
>>8210423
so good
>>8210557
>following instructions is somehow retarded
I can't even get the beer, but if I did I would take the recommendation of the brewery and drink it from the can
Do you guys know of any good beer documentaries? I'm trying to get into beer, particularly craft beers with quality. Until recently I found out that beer can be enjoyed similar to tea or wine, that it can be cozy and not annoying like dudebro buffalo wild wings culture.

I've only seen shitty vhs rips from worn tapes though
outdated in some aspects but it's better than anything more recent that I've seen (that shit doco on netflix that must have been crowdfunded or something)

How Beer Saved The World is quite good. It's kind of a tongue-in-cheek expose of how beer has contributed to various cultural and technological advances in human history. Light on hard science but pretty comfy.
>>8211828
While semi-scripted there was that series with Dogfish Head, it shows some shit like how an infected FV can lead to hundreds of thousands of dollars lost along with other infection issues. It's okay.
>>8205164
Drinking Shipyard's Pumpkinhead. I love it. My favorites are Stouts. Any stout will do.
>friend ordered a stout last night
>I ordered an amber ale (some kind of Lighthouse tap)
>my beer was darker than his
Aren't Stouts supposed to be heavy and dark? At least mine was malty and not hoppy, I was hungover and I had to choke down a Two Hearted Ale earlier.
>>8212922
Some stouts are heavy and dark but others like Guinness are dark but extremely light. People expect them to be heavier than they really are just by the sight.
It's very strange for a stout to not be black or near black though.
>>8212986
Yea at first I thought she confused our orders but then I remembered that he had ordered his while I was in the bathroom.
His drink looked more like an amber ale to me. I remember the brewery that his stout was from was Dark Horse. The tap looked like a shotgun.
A couple of bottles that I have been saving
>>8212986
Not just strange, but contrary to style guidelines. You either weren't served a stout, or some brewery fucked up and wasn't smart enough to reclassify their fuckup.
Nothing special
Just a quick blurry snap into the fridge.
Left to right:
>Adnams Ghost Ship
>Westmalle Dubbel
>Lagunitas IPA
>Delirium Tremens
>Sierra Nevada Torpedo
>Hoegaarden
>London Pride
Pretty good haul overall imho
>>8213061
Tell me how the Delirium is, I've been looking at it for a while
>>8205368
Good, but over-rated. Not worth the effort & cost to get hold of when you can just get St Bernardus 12.
>tfw still have a bunch of IPA's saved from the beginning of the summer and from over a month ago
Are these still good if I haven't kept them refrigerated? A lot of them are from Sierra Nevada.
>>8213116
I was driving to Dunkirk from Germany and the abbey was more or less on the way. Seemed foolish not to drop in and get a few bottles.
>>8206947

>>8213162
>>8213032
What are these vintage Rodenbachs like? A store near me just got the 2014 bottles and I'm considering it.
>>8213122
They should still be drinkable, but they won't taste how they were supposed to. You'll have lost a lot of the hop characteristics & aroma and just be left with one-dimensional bitterness probably on top of some caramel-y malt.
Berkshire brewing company's Drayman porter, a pretty reasonable porter, nothing crazy or exotic but good (and the growler was only 8 bucks with no deposit for the jug itself)
Anderson Valley's Briney melon gose is tart as fuck, and the watermelon was a little lighter than i was expecting, was reasonably priced (paid maybe ten or eleven for the sixer). Anderson Valley really likes their goses, huh?
And then in front is the wrapper dinner came in. I put a little bit of the porter, 2~3oz or so, in towards the end and it was a good fuckin decision.
Currently drinking the Magic Rock + Fork Brewing (NZ) Rainbow Project yellow collab. It's a bit disappointing to be honest. It's kettle-soured and "brett trois" fermented, but it lacks the sour bite that i was expecting and all i can taste really is passionfruit juice. Just like someone mixed fizzy passionfruit juice with a witbier...
>>8213032
>japanese "lambic"
>>8213238
I don't know if the japanese one is any good, but the idea that certain styles should only be made in certain regions is fucking dumb. Just look what it has done to wine drinker culture
>>8213260
i concur
I've been drinking lagunitas cause im broke and its a few bucks less for a six at my store. I miss breakfast stout so much
I'm an embarrassing hoe for anything dogfish makes but I haven't been able to afford it since I moved out of my moms house
>>8213306
lagunitas is consistantly good tho
>>8213306
Lagunitas is a solid affordable brand.
I also miss breakfast stout. Their RIS is good too.
Thoughts on this? It's really dark, and with notes of mocha.
>>8213451
Good stout and pretty unique that it is nitro in a bottle.
I think Left Hand invented these bottles or at least they were the first beer to use it.
>>8206621
Old Ruffian from Great Divide should be good. I am in love with their Collette Saison
>>8213451
Very good milk stout. The hard pour bottled nitro is definitely cool.
>>8213674
OP here. The 4-pack I got was vintage from Jan 2015. Opened a bottle to share with my mother, who is the only other beer drinker in the family. Really fucking good. Oldest beer on hand is the Grand Cru, which is from 2011.
>>8208174
How the fuck did you get a six-pack? My local liquor store said only two per customer. Also, how mich per bottle?
>>8213995
dunno, I live in Arizona and it just released in six pack bottles. Stone has a beer locator on their website you can use. Can't remember how much it was probably somewhere above or below 12 bucks
Currently working on this beast. I drank it down to the label then filled it back up to the top with a 12 oz "spicy hot" v8 and some pickle juice.
I'm expecting some hate for posting this...
>>8213995
A store in Delaware I bought it at had at least 12 cases and no limits at all. 16$ per 6-pack and I got 1 6-pack to try it.
The beer was very good so I will go back and see if I can get another.
>>8214006
Fucking hell. 2 bottles for $10 in Orlando.
There's nothing like a cool refrigerated Bud after a long hard days work.
>>8206912

>>8214029
You can't go through a whole 40? That stuff isnt even bad compared to Steel Reserve 211. V8 in it sounds even worse than drinking it straight up.
This is the first pilsner I've enjoyed.
I mainly bought it for the lunch box desu
>>8214046

>>8214042
I can drink a whole 40 just fine. Adding the other bullshit pushes it further and makes it last longer (gives me something to do). I'm not exactly drinking it because I think it tastes awesome.

Man I love the 2015 old stock, haven't had the balls to buy some 2013 ($26 a bottle) yet.
>>8205164
I recently bought a local brew that a liquor store had. They brewed their stout in barrels that once aged Knob creek whisky.
>>8214262
Is it the cellared version? I bought the last 4 pack of 2013 from a liquor store a year ago for like 10$. Everyone in that area buys karkov and Busch so I lucked out.
Just got done reorganizing (should dust them off aswell now that i think about it)
The two uptop will join the rest once im done with em'
>>8211828
Crafting a Nation on netflix is pretty good. It's more about the small business side of craft beer and a little bit about the culture around it than about the origins of specific styles.

So I saved some Backwoods Bastard from last year and just got the new one. I am gonna drink them back to back, which should I drink first
Cheers, faggots
>>8207548
My man. That being said, I'm trying the "sour monkey" and it's pretty good. Better than 'tell tale tart' by Boulevard, but not as good as anything by The Brewery.

Alcoholics can not obtain a drink without first sacrificing liver cells.
In order to obtain a drink, liver cells of equal value are required.
That is Drinking's law of equivalent exchange.
At the time we believed that to be the true way of the bars.

>>8219146
What do you mean? That the current glasses you're using don't give any foam and aren't transparent?
>>8216599
Old one first, round subtle flavours.
New one last, sharper and more intense, can damp older's nuances if drank first.
>>8219207
Ouch! Should start cellaring my own then. Quite the turnover.
Any other beers with quick turnover when cellared? Fullers Vintages are a bit random, Chimays get crazy after 7y, what else?
>>8219225
Westy, any popular Russian imperial, bells third coast, really any high abv beer that isn't a double ipa. Also the ones with additives can have those flavors fade with time, like coffee and chocolate.
>>8206912
Tired a few. Grapefruit Sculpin is the only one I've liked, but it is really good.
Could someone somehow figure out what beer this is? It's the only picture I have, I do remember it being german, and it tasted sour, almost like blood grape. Was the best beer I've ever had, alas I can't find it anywhere.
Excuse the extremely shitty picture.
>>8219214
I am currently drinking out of the bottle like the degenerate college student I am, I'm asking what kind of glasses I should pick up given the chance.
>>8205164
Recently found a liquor store with a really nice Quebec beer section. In addition to my usual favorites (Unibroue's Trois Pistoles and 17, and Trois Mousquetaires' cognac barrel aged baltic porter, for instance) I picked up a couple of kind of different ones:
Trois Mousquetaires' Dixieme (pictured), which is an imperial black kriek- basically soured wild yeast imperial stout fermented in barrels with morello cherries. I have no idea how it'll be but it sounds like it could be cool.
The other is Trou du Diable's Dulcis Succubus, which is a wild yeast sour aged in botrytized white wine barrels.
I tried this for the first time the other day and I didn't like it that much. Then again, I'm not much of a fan of IPA's in general.
Am I a pleb?
>>8220083

>>8220061
Belgian-style beer is shit, and you're shit for liking it. If I wanted sour, saccharine, noxious bullshit I'd just dissolve a warhead into my milk stout.

The average Dollar Tree will have tulip glasses, pint glasses, wheat beer glasses, nonic pint glasses, those dimpled pub mugs, and other glassware to feel fancy with.

Nope. They have them in glass. Like I said it's kinda random what they'll have in sometimes though. Thrift stores are also a good place to look too. If you want to pay a little more, most Bed, Bath & Beyonds carry craft beer glasses.
>>8219918

So far I haven't gotten into any craft beers, just trying different types of mass produced stuff, but so far I've enjoyed Blue Moon the most- it is about the only one that I have bothered buying a 6 pack of. Stouts and Porters are alright, the Pilsners I've tried are pretty good but I can't stand the IPAs I've tried.
Would just like some recommendations I can get at a local beer store. >>8206714 and >>8215717 is actually my local store, if you guys are still here.
>>8205164
Got a fall pack a week ago. 12 beers, two of each flavor. I gave a Red and a Caramel one to my brother, and he agrees with me on the latter but thinks the former is ass.
I poured the second Bonfire Blonde down the drain this morning. It starts out so good, but then this artificial overwhelming smoke taste fills your mouth the second you draw in air after swallowing.
>>8220083
Try Stone's non-IPA shit. It's pretty good, especially that coffee milk stout
Drinking some wintery homebrew right now. Definitely needs some time to mature but the immature bottles have their own special flavour.
Can post a rough recipe if people fancy.
>>8226160
go ahead
>>8226169
50% pale malt
25% rauch
12.5% wheat
1.25% chocolate
3.4% oat
5% rye
tettnang to bitter
and hallertauer to flavour
Comes out nice and smoky with a deep malty and rich backbone, the rye gives some spicy notes and the oat helps with head retention.
I use a sparging schedule that comes out at 8%ABV FG this recipe does lend itself to high gravity but I've never tried a low gravity version.
>>8226121
IPA's can be a bit rough to get in to. I went through the same thing.
I'd recommend staying to things like belgians, wheat/white beers, brown ales, and non-imperial stouts/porters for a while.
Try the bigger/more consistent breweries: Founders, Great Divide, Victory, Ommegang, North Coast, Ballast Point, etc...
You'll probably find a favorite style and stick with it for a while, then try the higher ABV versions, then get bored and try new styles. For me it was stouts. I hated IPAs. Now I'm pretty much willing to drink any style of beer.
>>8206621
That grand cru must be 3 or 4 years old. Had mine a few months ago. Delicious.
>>8207425
Got one a trade. Did half can half glass. The glass was much better, aromatics brought it to the next level. Out the can it was just bitter.

You caught me. Oh damn I remember the last Devils Lettuce release. Gotta get my hands on that fresh.
Go to the Reel Big Fish concert at Durty Nellies on Sunday. I promise not to shoot the place up. That's another fall tradition at this point. Work from 9-6 all weekend, drink bombers of great beer, then take my college mid terms the following week.
Come join the celebration.

15 or 16
They're both out now
OP checking in
Got this porter yesterday. It's a variant on their Black Marlin with stronger coffee and mocha taste. Not bad but nothing to write home about
7/10
>>8225621
I wouldn't go out of my way for them, but their fore smoked stout is pretty tasted and that double crooked tree is pretty good too. Haven't tried scotty karate, but a place near me has the barrel aged version and I'm tempted to try it out.
>>8226204
my dad used to brew his own beer but i don't have a clue. How much water do you use, and do you just thrown everything together and hope for the best?
>>8226615
Indeed. Best adjunct stouts there are!
Missed this one when it was first put out but got my hands on it recently. Not as good as the Noa to me but still one hell of an insane stout!
>>8213080
I drank one of them few months ago. It wasn't that bad.
>>8226619
Swamped with schoolwork because >trimesters and almost done with the term but if I have the time I'll head out there Sunday night -- even sacrificing myself to the Ska.
If I end up going I'll wear a Smith Street Band t-shirt with a grey thermal underneath, keep an eye out.
>>8227558
This recipe calls for 34 litres in total of water and 7.7 kilos of grain.
You don't just throw it all in, brewing beer is way more complex than wine cider or honey because barley in its raw state isn't even fermentable. You have to slowly steep the grain at the right temperature to convert the starch to sugar, strain of the water and then boil the wort (unfermented, sugary barley liquid) for a couple of hours to sterilise it.
Its a great hobby if you're a slight autist because the whole thing is basically an engineering challenge.
>>8228389
What about the investment cost? Because it sounds like you'll need a lot more of equipment than with basic stuff
>>8226621
'16, pretty good. I have a local place that selling '13/'14 cans - they're pretty dope. Covered in dust in a corner. My town is uninterested in beer for the most part.
They still have boxes of Sunday Morning Stout just sitting there...
>>8228517
luckily you can start slowly and buy the equipment you need to upgrade your process piecemeal, spreading the cost out a bit.
The absolute minimum you need is a big food grade bucket with lid and a grommit for your air lock, an airlock, hydrometer, thermometer and some way of sanitising your containers. You can probably pick that all up for £30 or less.
Doing a full all grain brew needs equipment that either needs a good eye for diy and access to cheap plumbing supplies or some extra cash to throw about and will probably be closer to the 150-200 mark.
After that however you can make excellent beer far cheaper than any bar or shop so it should pay itself off in a few months/years depending how much you drink.
Going to an Oktoberfest thing tonight, what do Hefeweizens taste like?
>>8228580
>depending how much you drink
>mfw
But thanks for the info. How long does it take to get a finished product starting from scratch and how easy is it to fuck everything up?
>>8228728
bananas
OP here again
Going into German territory tonight with this doppelbock. Really good, looking forward to trying more from this brewery
>>8228773
Absolute minimum is three weeks for a low-average strength ale. Realistically 4-8 weeks for a beer to be at its best.
How easy it is to fuck things up all depends on your process. There are plenty of small ways to mess up that will make your beer worse or not taste how your want it to, but luckily even if your beer gets badly infected, goes sour, gets lightstruck, oxidises, hits a stuck fermentation, and loses carbonation it still wont make you sick, it'll just taste bad.
saw yall posting Founders, first time Ive had it, got this in Houston shits dank, would like to try that >>8206649 one but it probably doesnt make it this far
I love this thread. Thank you OP.
>>8207385
Ignore the cheapskate and tryhard replies. You did just fine, anon. Enjoy it.
Tried this for the first time last night, would drink forever/10.
Wish I could find the 330ml bottles.
>>8230448
What's it like?
>>8230550
Light banana esters, just really crisp and grainy. Think an amped up Stella.
This is some good shit. You don't taste the10% at all.
Meh. Have had better, but I guess ill drink these up since I bought them
>ogre hands
>>8230900
>chocolate milk stout
wow you beer faggots have really crossed the line with this one
>>8230980
A lot of stouts have hints of chocolate even without the stuff added. And the "milk" part mostly makes it creamier and thicker even at a lower abv.
looking for a good east coast 'juicy' style IPA in Denver area. A couple breweries nearby make them but I never see them in the stores. Any ideas?
>>8231017
When someone describes beer as "juicy," one immediately knows they have the vocabulary of a 10 year old or has never drunk beer in their life.
>>8231017
What the hell do you mean by juicy?
>>8230889
One of my favorites. Think I have 2 cans of both '13 and '14 somewhere.
>>8231041
>>8231049
obviously you've never had a juicy IPA. It comes from the type of hops used. Certain hops can impart a juicy (mostly citrus) characteristic to beers. Some of these hops would be Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic, Cascade and plenty more. I have really been on a kick of these juicy IPAs after tasting a local example (Juicy Banger) which was wonderfully crafted
oh, and please stop posting the both of you
>>8231150
An ipa with a citrus flavor is just an ipa with a fucking citrus flavor you retarded faggot. Calling it juicy makes you sound like a total raging queer
Flying Dog - "The Truth"
>>8231163
and you sound like a raging cunt.
>>8231163
they are quintessentially different. Go try more beers. An IPA can have some citrus flavor/aromas (most do) but that doesn't make them juicy.
>>8231150
>likes juicy beer
Mixes half pineapple juice with a British Ale and thinks he's hit the pinnacle of beer flavor. Either increase you're fucking vocabulary or develop tastebuds that can actually sense, you fagfuck.
>>8231265
the juicy beer he is referring to doesn't have any juice or fruit in it
Some tree house

just some yeungling and a side of boneless skinless sardines in olive oil.

negro that's Trillium. Also their new brewery is like 5 minutes from my house. Also why so many IPAs? Their brown ale is great, you fucked up not getting that.
>>8231809
Right you are uploaded the wrong pic
>>8231809
Have you ever tried Against the Grain? It's a brewery based out of Louisville. And Louisville is about a half hour drive to an hour out of my town down one road so I have like instance access to their beers at a great price. I would totally trade with you for some of that Boston Brew.
>>8210170
Drinking fro. The can is a meme. Pouring into a glass opens up the aromatics.
Ive been working in beer since 2013, trust me mate
>>8210277
you mean this ;)

Boulevard is real good. Tank 7 is my go-to in the spring
>>8209823
I've had their Yin and Yang Black and Tan, their Stout Slacker, and their Molotov Cocktail. I've heard that that brewery doesn't own the recipe rights to any of those brews. Apparently the recipe holders aren't even brewers, they just have these amazing beer recipes and they sell the recipes out to breweries. If this is any what plausible then I guess there are secret ingredients or something secret about how it's all made.

>Moody Tongue
Some of that stuff has sat in my local place for maybe a year. The barrel aged chocolate barleywine and the applewood gold I think. Nobody seems interested.
Should I try a bottle of either?
>>8231913
If they aren't expired?
If you look for taste then maybe. The taste is complex, different - especially for it's price. But if I had the money to spend on another Moody Tongue then I would probably buy a Dogfish Head, Evil Twin, Bell's, or something new I've never heard of or had before. I think though that if you like beer, you'll like Moody Tongue. Just pick the right flavor you'll be drinking for the right occasion and you shouldn't be disappointed.
fair enough??
I just opened one of these pic related and I'm not too impressed. Maybe I just haven't drank beer enough to tell what makes something like this what it is. Perhaps I was expecting something else and my expectations were too high. But the aftertaste is alright.
>>8231150
That's not "juicy", that's "citrus". Goddamn, *you* stop posting
>>8229931
I was looking at that exact Backwood's Bastard Founder's beer just this week. in fact I get quite a few founder's brews around here.
>>8229931
dirty bastard is just bourbon barrel aged dirty bastard. The malt profile is similar, its just got layers of vanilla and caramel from the oak. the amount it improves the already excellent beer is fantastic.
>>8229482
>doppelbock
You fucking hero. Seriously underrated style, I'm sipping on some Troegenator right now. Shit's delicious, but what I really want is the Ayinger doppelbock warming up on the counter right now. Shit's gonna be good.
>>8226794
I really wish ballast point would actually make interesting beers instead of throwing juice into boring beers and renaming them. Habanero sculpin was fucking foul, one of the very few drain pours I've done next to Sweet Baby Jesus from duclaw.
>>8226121
Peabody's is pretty good but overpriced. All of the Founders, Victory, Troeg's Bros. stuff is very good and its all excellent examples of the style even if you dont personally like the style. As far as accessibility goes, the other anon had it right, all of those breweries put out excellent product. If you go over to Benchmark Provisions on the other side of town, you can get your hands on some Troeg's LaGrave tripel, which is excellect for an american version of the style, and Troegenator, a doppelbock which is pretty universally enjoyable. The alcohol on both of those is no joke though, so be ready for it.
>>8226080
That barrel aged version of tenfidy coming out soon, though....
>>8222171
its literally standard IUPAC nomenclature m8. Most likely he just took an orgo chem course in uni.
>>8220083
>Stone
Decent quality, but not super interesting. Theres a pretty interesting dichotomy as far as west/easy coast IPAs goes, with east coast tending towards the tropical/fruity profile and west coast tending towards the piney/herbal end of things. Lagunitas tends to do west coast IPAs very well, if thats what you're after.
>>8219198
Gib Westvleteren 12 pls
>>8216599
Definitely older first. New one will have much sharper alcohol and bitterness.
>>8232252
>barrel aged version of tenfidy
Fucking excuse me, when is this happening
>>8231795
Founders generally does dark beer extremely well. Give their Imperial stout and breakfast stout if you havent already. The porter is basically just a sessionable version of those two anyways.

NOW
Saw these tonight and couldn't resist. I love Halloween, the taste/smell/flavor of pumpkin, and I can enjoy a good ale. I did not regret it, they are pretty goddamn delicious. Little pricey though.
Honestly I'm just looking for a replacement for my Miller Fortunes. That is to say, a dark, tasty lager that exceeds 6.9% alcohol per volume. They took them off most shelves in Louisiana and that's been my go-to beer for over two years now.
Anyone have any suggestions? Dark lager, smooth taste, high alcohol percentage. The closest I've gotten is Michelob Amberbock Dark Lager and it was okay, but it wasn't strong or distinctive enough to commit to.
>>8232311
Doppelbock is your friend. Dark. Malty. High alcohol.

>>8232321

I just had Chimay Reserve for the first time. My lord I now know what a great beer truly is.
This is more like a wine in its fullness.
Do any of you work at a Brewery?
>>8231279
Trillium is amazing, I wish I had access to it.
This weekend I took a trip to Kane and Carton in New Jersey and got some incredible beers. Trillium are the best of the modern NE IPA's I've had though.
