I totally agree as an American who works (and has customers he has to visit) in Quebec and Ontario. Tim Horton's coffee is mediocre as fuck. It's the same reason people drink starbucks, that's not particularly good coffee either.

Starbuck's espresso is pretty great. It's freshly ground and properly made. Unlike Tim Horton's espresso which is made from and instant powder or liquid. Comes out of the same machine as their other gross drinks.

I'm a coffee snob, I was fortunate enough to have a really nice local shop with two locations (one where they roasted the coffee). The coffee was usually roasted only the day before and was fantastic. Now I order it online from a thousand miles away and grind it at home in my burr grinder + brew in French Press.

Starbuck's espresso is definitely better than their regular coffee.

I've tried making my own, or buying coffee from other places, and nothing else is any better.

I can handily admit that timmies isn't amazing, but I literally have never found anything better and anybody I've asked who had a "real" answer turned out to be a smug coffee elitist who spends 40 minutes making a cup of coffee every morning using archaic arabian magic bullshit.

Trying Tim Horton's with all the hype people had for it was a severe disappointment. I'm not the person that won't go to a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks or whatever, but I ordered a black regular coffee (no milk/no sugar) and I'm not sure I would call it particularly drinkable. Dunkin is kind of so mild as to be inoffensive but it still tastes alright.

I'm a Texan and I went to Canada on vacation last year due to it being so fucking hot here.

It was great, foreign but not too foreign with friendly people.

However, Tim Hortons was the worst. Unbelievably bad. I tried it a couple times to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it the worst fast food I've ever had.

Timmes only started to push the "Made in Canada" angle once they got sold to the American company. They're back in Leaf hands, but still pretty shit. I can't for the life of me understand how people still drink their coffee. Only thing I'll occasionally pop in for is a hot chocolate or mocha if I'm feeling the need for a hot drink. McDonalds coffee is honestly much better.
