I find the Publix brand items to generally be pretty great. Except their frozen pizzas, those are kind of disappointing. I have been eating them for a very long time though, maybe I've forgotten what the name brand equivalent tastes like.
>>8079272
The only one i like is the brie cheese and the greenwise products. Cheese doesnt matter here though it is all pasteurized bullshit that tastes the same. The greenwise is good and i prefer products that are not so cruel to animals. I just bought there store brand razors to shave with and they were horrible, had to go over every spot on my face 5 times. Everything i have tired besides the greenwise and cheese sucks. Thank goodness i have a whole foods and fresh market next to each other
>>8079047
I look forward to going, and go there for things I could get closer or cheaper sometimes.
The 15 items max on the express line is enforced, the self-checkout actually works, cashiers are QTs and the produce and deli is cheap as fuck for the area.

>Publix is the greatest around me right now but Publix has nothing on Wegmans and the only way you would ever seriously say it does is if you have never been to Wegmans.
I think there are certain locations of Publix that rival the best locations of Wegmans, Harris Teeter, whole foods, etc but that in general, at the lowest tier of both of the chains, there's absolutely nothing at all wrong with Publix or their selection. Every store of Publix has quality produce, meats, deli and bakery and all the best brands. If you need more and more ready to eat prepared foods and salads out in a salad bar for people to sneeze on and use dirty hands on the handles, like to never cook a day in your life, you have less of a selection at Publix (where it's packaged up instead), however, with Publix you have the best customer and visitor experience of any chain in the world. I'd never want to shop anywhere else that doesn't have hospital clean floors, or where I have to bag my own groceries and load my own trunk and then walk my cart over to a rack or back to the front, if I drop $300 at a time, especially in 90F heat or pounding thunderstorm. No tipping. With a smile. Fact.
My local Florida publix has a liquor store, a restaurant dining area, a sushi chef, sandwich station, cuban coffee counter, wedding cake orders, soda fountain, three people making fried chicken all day, rofl...but no, they don't have a bottle of floating cubes of watermelon in water for $7 like a Wegmans in Virginia near my other home, oh but they do have kombucha for those that like that kind of thing. :P

>>8080809

Like all the frozen food you could think of. I want a store like this
>>8080822
Yeah I know what you're talking about. It's a chain called Picard. The quality of their stuff is amazing. According to my French friends, lots of people buy food there for parties and Sunday meals since it's just as good as cooking it yourself.

>I would take publix subs before Wegmans subs at the deli counter. That is definitely something good.
From pan con lechon to fried chicken finger poboy type sub, it's more than just the boars head and fresh rolls that aren't spongey nonsense. I can't think of any chain that makes a fresher nicer sub than publix with a smile. Only thing missing is a sliced avocado, but I guess you could add one, or they'd be happy to do that if you handed them from produce.
Pic is from inside Whole Foods in Pinecrest, FL. where local chain has one of the counters, Sushi Maki ( http://www.sushimaki.com/menu ) making some buda-cane crab, cali ocho, or chicken n waffle rolls or steaming tonkatsu ramen to order, to enjoy with your craft beer, ethiopian or other special on the hot bar, edamame salad, or gluten free peanut butter cookie or coconut cupcake. Or maybe a juice bar drink. ROFL.

yeah, considering i'm a longtime employee, but having a membership and using the 25% discount once a month makes it stupid cheap
they treat their employees so well and having seen firsthand what they do for the community and for farmers in the state, i feel pretty supportive of them. every location donates about 2000$ of food a day to food banks. they pay leans on local organic farmers so they can keep their land. wholesome is just the right word. for holidays last year they gave every employee 100$ gift cards. it's a sweet gig
>>8082200
it is a bit spendy, mostly so they can give the money to the local farms and treat the employees good. there's a few locations in less expensive towns than seattle/edmonds/issaquah ofc but mostly we cater to annoying rich people. luckily as an employee we get to take the cooks classes for free, and for every 3 we take we get 25$ gift cards. free dinner, entertainment, and then getting paid for it? i take advantage of it for sure

In the UK, Iceland is a chain of supermarkets that used to sell frozen food by the pound but now only sells prepackaged frozen foods. I've been told that in the 70s and 80s, Iceland had large bins full of frozen cuts of meat and frozen veg that you could weigh and purchase.
Again, though, now it's mostly ready meals and shelf-stable goods.
In the ghetto-est parts of the eastern US, a similar supermarket called Murrays used to do the same thing but has shifted slightly. Now, the frozen meat they sell is already packaged and has a barcode. That's the only difference from then-and-now for Murray's. It's a shithole, though and slowly but surely, they're all closing.

>Does Publix make a huge cake and serve it to customers every time they win a "best grocery store in the country" award?
When a grocery store that is historically focused on ONE single state, Florida, really not much more than the surrounding states now, has been winning the "best" award all these years when it was only ONE states, I doubt it's a consideration when someone else in that many states pushes them down a ranking, no. We all know how surveys work anyway. It'd be difficult to compare groceries by a favorable customer experience which are "regional" by survey. Northerners have absolutely no conception of a grocery chain that bags your groceries perfectly, and then chats with you while walking you to your car, puts the groceries in your trunk, doesn't hurry away and chats more, and refuses a tip. It's just too foreign to understand that anyone else in the country is better if you've never been there, afterall.

Can somebody give me the lowdown on Trader Joes? I've only been there a few times. They have a lot of selection, but it seems like it would be in the same category as whole foods or whatever in that it's stupid expensive. the workload, responsibility, and complexity went up 10 fold but my wage went up 0. It doesn't help that they're essentially making me do the duties of a Seafood Specialist (read: seafood department manager, running the entire department myself because my coworkers are criminally incompetent and get away with it because they know they can't be fired) for bagger pay, 9 an hour. Real seafood specialists start at $13.

That looks like literally any neighborhood grocery store cheese section in flyover land USA...
>>8086010
and how would you know what they look like anon :^)
>>8086010
Flyover typically has better cheese selections than coastal areas because both that is where most of the best cheese in America comes from, and they have more space so stores can devote more area to cheese
Tiny chains are literally god tier.
>>8086068
Because I've lived In a few different parts of the country, gone to 3 different schools, had multiple SO's who I've visited at their respective family homes while we were dating, gone on multiple cross country road trips, stayed with various friends given various opportunities over the years, and have simply traveled quite a bit...
Is it really surprising to you that someone can be well traveled? Only New Yorkers never leave their city.
>>8086076
>that is where most of the best cheese in America comes from, and they have more space so stores can devote more area to cheese
That's just plain silly.
If you're actually serious you must be thinking of Woodman's, as WI simply produces so much cheese that they can sell it cheap and they consume loads of it. They have a few unique cheeses, but nobody actually believes that the Midwest makes better cheese than California or Vermont. The idea that a grocery store doesn't physically have the room to carry more cheese is completely absurd.
>>8086101
>The idea that a grocery store doesn't physically have the room to carry more cheese is completely absurd.
Places like Woodmans have more room for everything. Not just cheese. They also will have a better beer and liquor selection than you would find at a grocery store in a trendy coasty hotspot, because the local area is better at making the stuff and consumes more of it and because they can fit way more in there
Also, California and Vermont have some good cheese but don't be silly

Sweet. It's opening right next door to the store I work at so I can get my dinner makings there.

tfw the closest Fairway to me closed recently
Pretty soon there is going to be a Wegmans and a Publix in Carry NC. Do you think the Publix shills will admit that their store has been totally outclassed when they see it for themselves?

>4-6 beers on tap
fucking lel
Do you even beer den bro?
We have 8 beers on tap at all times, a constantly changing lineup, and even collaborate with local breweries to brew beer exclusively for our stores.
Pity you felt compelled to brag about having half the quantity of beers we have on tap

Yup. Just moved to Boise and I live right across from a Winco. They're fucking awesome.

Don't make fun of his favorite grocery store, anon. They have every kind of cheese known to man there. White AND yellow.

Rochester NY here with relatives in Florida. I've been to both, and while Publix is above an average grocery store, you cannot possibly compete with Wegmans.

It really is nice instead of having to go during the same day all the families are out shopping at the same exact time.
>tfw the convenient local grocer knows they're convenient and charge accordingly
>have to drive to the shitty supermarket to get anything reasonably priced
I was watching some French chef make breadcrumbs and she said "just use your day old bread". If only I could live the life where day old bread is only worthy of making mere breadcrumbs.
We're about to get a "365" by Whole Foods.
Apparently it's a Whole Foods but with cheaper prices or something.

Every time I eat food from Aldi's I get horribly ill.
No thankyou.
>>8093710
>Whole Foods is so retarded, that they open a cheaper store, rather than simply lowering prices in current stores
Fuck.
Anywho, my contribution.
Raleys is all right
they give me a 10% discount on all food just for being a student which is great because I'm poor as fuck
what do you buy at costco
Anyone have maps of their favorite grocery store?
EARTHFARE
HEB is for fuckos
>>8094483
>whole foods is so retarded, they've been a fortune 500 company for 11 years and are in the top 50 retailers in America.
No, totally valid to be skeptic of their decision making.
>People actually believe Publix is better than Wegmans
Florida should've been the state on the fault line

Hard to compete with New seasons and Zupans in Portland. Was my splurge spot in Eugene though.

Nugget is legitimately good, their salads are bomb when I need a quick lunch
