I'd take hard shelled tacos in a heartbeat over flour tortilla soft shell. Only corn tortilla soft shell properly done can compete with hard shell

Flour tortilla has way too many problems, its on the lowest end of tacos to the point of not even being taco. Its basically a half-assed burrito.

Hard shell is good though, it doesn't get enough love just because hipsters like to say its not authentic enough so it must be put down, similar to Chicago pizza. Chicago pizza gets a lot of hate due to odd rivalries between it and New York.

the only problem with hard shells is that people buy shitty ones that have been sitting for months on a shelf, a freshly fried taco shell is quite delicious, moreso if you throw some spices on it right out of the fryer.

Maybe in europe... But you don't understand the normal use of flour as a word nor mexican nomenclature to attempt to correct someone like an autist. You're simply wrong.
In the US, we don't refer to processed corn meal, or processed hominy (lye treated corn, aka masa), as "flour" like you do. Ever.
Corn meal, fine or coarse. Fresh masa, or parcooked masarina. Corn starch (not corn flour).
Flour tortillas, or corn tortillas. Either can be fresh or fried, or made fluffy or thick and gummy, preference of course.

Flour has always been wheat only in the US. Since the gluten-free phase got to be more than a niche audience, you'll see some more milled grains being referred to as flour, from amaranth to chick pea, but if you refer to mexican food, you wouldn't call corn anything but corn, geesh.

OP, freshness indeed matters. I think most of the time, corn is my preferred taco, tostada, enchilada, everything. A quesadilla or a wrap like a burrito is a rare occurrence. Even for a fajitas kind of meal, I'd choose soft corn over flour any day.
