The best way to eat wheat, is to get some freshly harvested wheat berries, preferably straight from the grainevator, give them a quick rinse, and stuff them in your mouth and chew them. In about 5 minutes, you'll have your own homemade gum that you can chew for quite a while.
(I used to do this as a kid during the wheat harvest).
