heard cottage cheese is a solid source of protein so I started buying some and eating it plain. I can't think of any food to pair it with to make it taste better. Recommendations? Preferably low calorie combinations but I'm open to most things within moderation

Specific-food based diets don't work. Not that easing yourself into better foods isn't a bad thing...

I particularly enjoy setting up things to sprinkle on it. Blueberries or other fruits are good with it, as well as sunflower seeds and pecans. I also have enjoyed shredded coconut, chia seeds, flax seeds, and granola with it.
i like eating it with apple slices, peaches, or strawberries.
Goes good on salad, with some dressing. A slightly sweet vinaigrette is my favourite.
Goes either sweet or savory, very versatile for both dinner and breakfast. Try throwing different spices in there.

I eat it as a side in italian dishes. Its a white trash thing but I dont see a downside as long as you just stick with it as a side and don't replace any cheeses with it. as for other ways, some people eat it with fruits, others like it as a side in their cold salads (egg, potato, pasta, other potlucky picnic shit)
Pineapple. Trust me.

There's an amazing breakfast recipe out there that uses cottage cheese for pancakes. It sounds strange, but it's so amazing and in my opinion tastes better than pancakes. They're smaller than your traditional pancakes, but far superior. Just search for ''Cottage cheese pancakes'' in your preferred search engine and don't hesitate making them. They're crazy super good, my grandma used to make them for me.

what kind of fish? I mixed it with tuna once but it just gave me a weird burning sensation.
Cracked black pepper. Goes really well with the saltiness of the cheese.
It's tricky to "doctor" cottage cheese. Maybe a little bit of chives/onions/garlic. It's good scooped up with something crunchy, such as wheat thin since you want low cal options. Fruit is good with it too for a sweet variation.

For some reason that pic doesn't look real.
It's in the food uncanny valley.
