What are you go to pre-packaged biscuits?

I can polish off a box of these effortlessly. Hobnobs better but my local grocery store doesn't stock them.
>>
Digestives, Bourbons and Malted Milks.
>>
>>7729133
>Malted Milks

Sublime with a cup of tea or coffee.

Pure garbage on their own.
>>
>>7729130
Chocolate digestives are top tier, but I prefer bourbons.
Jaffa cakes are superior, but expensive as fuck unless they're on special offer. And, frankly, if I normalise eating them I will get fat and ruin my appetite for meals.

You really can't beat bourbons dipped in hot chocolate, though.
>>
>>7729175
>Jaffa cakes are superior,

I never got the appeal in them. I don't mind them but wouldn't buy them. My mum loves them though. The only time I ever eat them is when I have coffee at her place and she serves them.
>>
>>7729185
There's just something about them, though. JUST enough chocolate, and the orangey bit, and then the squishy cakey stuff.

Maybe they simply aren't popular enough for a quality manufacturer to start up a production line or something.

Maybe you all subconsciously know they are British therefore evil and an affront to your freedoms.

It's the same issues with finding a good pie in America. One of those mysteries of the universe.

Confirming that in Malaysia and Thailand they are packaged in cardboard box. Too expensive, so everybody buys Dewberry cookies instead.
>>
>>7731863
This theory has never been tested because nobody has ever been able to make a pack of them last longer than a single day once opened.

>>7731926

>They're technically biscuits, for tax purposes.
You have that backwards, chocolate covered biscuits are eligible for VAT, but not chocolate covered cakes.

>The court found in favour of McVities and ruled that the product should be considered a cake, meaning that VAT is not paid on Jaffa Cakes in the United Kingdom.[12][16]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaffa_Cakes#Categorisation_as_cake_or_biscuit_for_VAT
>>
>>7731940
>tax breaks are ridiculous
>>
>>7731940
McVities digestives and Jaffa cakes are British therefore we are talking about...
>>
>>7731858
It's honestly wasteful. They're in a foil sleeve inside the box. Should just be a foil sleeve with printing on it. No needs for the extra packaging.
>>
>>7730668
>You should move to a better area,

Nah, I like where I am but Woolworths and Aldi are my nearby stores and for some retarded reason Coles has exclusive distribution for Hobnobs in Australia. The Woolworths and Aldi have everything I need so I only go to Coles for specific shit that is on special. If I'm there I might pick up a pack or two however when I'm at Coles I usually grab their large choc chip cookies from the bakery aisle. Those are fucking delicious although they never bake enough choc chip. 9 times out of 10 when I go there all they've got is mountains of peanut butter or oatmeal and raisin and an empty space where the choc chip were. No idea why management doesn't realize the other kind are shit because they're always left over. Make more choc chip you dumb faggots.
>>
>>7731959
Well, yes, understand perfectly that they are British, but they're sold in many countries. Any one of those countries could have ridiculous tax laws that discriminate between cakes and biscuits/cookies.

Also who gets these tax breaks? The consumer? Is it of any significance? I mean would you notice that you're making that saving?
>>
>>7732014
The packaging presumably provides some extra strength, makes them easier to stack, and makes them stand out more on the shelf so that tourists and expats can more easily locate the product from the Asian copycat products.

I'm back from the shop lads, I got my milk and chocolate Hob-Nobs.

I also got a packet of the double chocolate digestives. Fun times lie ahead.
>>
>>7732225
I doubt that it would result in a difference of a few pennies per individual unit, but you know corporations, if there is a chance to save a few shekels, you can bet your last pound that they will jump on it.

I doubt they would be sold anywhere else in the world other than little import shops, so they wouldn't be found in any sort of quantity in any other country other than The United Kingdom. My guess would be that the second largest consumer would be South Britain AKA Fiorina "Fury" 161 AKA Australia.

I do wonder where this little tax difference actually came from, what legislation impacted biscuits and not cakes.

I suppose these little quirks are what make life interesting.

Do you remember something nearly identical to those but had a big "50p" on the lower centre? I remember I used to buy a pack after school from my paki shop but I can't remember anything else about them.
>>
>>7732343

I like that the biscuit part is kind of bland, it balances with the chocolate well so it's not too sweet. I especially like the dark chocolate variety.
>>
>>7732285
digestives are very common and sold in almost every grocery store here in sweden. never seen a jaffa cake tho.
>>
>>7732360
That's surprising. We aren't America, I don't expect Greggs to build an outlet on every street around the world like the burgers and their McDonalds.

It always astounds me to hear of something British that is common elsewhere.
>>
>>7732225
Umm... actually this is maybe correct for the US, but these products are fairly common in SE Asia due to the prevalence of Tesco and a few other European chain stores. In Malaysia many of the smaller shops stock these products on account of it being a former British colony and I guess the locals have a soft spot for the products. Thailand was never a colony, but the king of around 1830s was very fond of British culture and mandated that everyone should start to dress in British style clothes, started major trading with Britain, and I'm gonna guess these cookies would have been one of the first food products to be imported. Today they are found mainly in Tesco and occasionally 7-eleven. Not sure if Makro stocks them, but probably, and if so then a few corner shops might stock as a luxury item. Price is at least 10 times higher than local brands in Thailand and about 30% higher than local brands in Malaysia. None of this matters, but just letting you know where you can get your Digestive fix in SE Asia. Pretty sure also that when I was in Canada you could get these from RCSS and from whatever that supermarket chain is that sells President's Choice products as their generic line.

This one blows my mind.

Cakes go stale, biscuits go soft. That is the definition by any reasonable man.
>>
>>7732277
Good work, mate. Cracker choices.
>>
Are digestives high in fiber or something?
The name suggests that they help you have bowel movements.
>>
>>7732520
The name is a holdover of the history of the product.

I think it was the baking powder they are made with used to be considered good for digestion in the Victorian era when they were first produced so they were marketed as such it just stuck over time.

But they are made out of what, wheat? That has to contain some fibre.

Odd thing about these is that cheap off-brand cookies like that are better than big brand names.
The biscuits of the cheap discounter ones are unsweetened which is a nice contrast to the chocolate cream.
