The worst I've had is Jack Daniels. Absolutely pig disgusting, tasted like it was flavored with an old, smelly leather boot that had been toasted to better release the aroma and add smoky undertones.

I wouldn't say it's the worst, as I haven't had lots of spiced rum. It's just noticeably worse than many other rums in the 12-25$ range, regardless of whether they're spiced or not.

Flor de Cana, Barbancourt, Goslings, etc. don't taste like chemicals and are much better. Even Cruzan is better, as is Bacardi. Decent rum is relatively cheap, so there's no point in buying Capt Morgan.

I once mixed stones green ginger wine and vermouth with the hopes of getting something that wasn't worse than either of them by themselves.
I still have nightmares.

In terms of beer one of the only brands I will absolutely pass on every time is Blue Moon. I'm not sure what it is about it but I swear when someone opens up the smell permeates the whole fucking room and I want to gag.

I actually used to like it well enough when I first started drinking, too. Not too sure when that turnaround happened and why I have such a visceral reaction to it now.

That's the thing, everyone I know says they hated it and just drank it until they stopped finding it revolting. I have no problems with most liqueurs but the fermented flavor of beer just kills me. I find it hard to believe that anyone would drink a beer for the first time and say "hey, that's pretty good".

It's not that bad up front; I would describe it as a sort of bitter grapefruit flavor. The problem is the aftertaste, and the fact that it's almost waxy and coats your mouth, leaving you with a disgusting, intense bitterness that stays with you for another 5-10 minutes.

went to a cocktail making class at a member's club a couple of weeks back. it was run by a guy from grey goose so pretty much everything was vodka based.

he organised us into groups and made us come up with a cocktail and make it for the other groups. then he gave us score cards to rate the other groups based on 'flair', 'concept' and 'technique'.

one of the groups consisted of an aged couple in matching white track suits adorned with their names in black calligraphy on the front, we called them peter and petra stringfellow, along with two underage little shits. the other group was a few very polite 30-somethings. then there was me, my two friends, a pissed mum and her underage son.

the pissed mum and her son were really shy and unambitious and didn't even like cocktails so they started playing around with cranberry juice and vodka and shit. the group with peter and petra started fucking around with champagne and tomato juice and fresh chilli and it looked awful. the other team basically made a mule.

one of my friends was a total pussy and made no suggestions. the other said he wanted to try making a 'dessert-inspired' cocktail. so we made an orgeat and vodka drink cut with lemon and shaken with egg white. threaded a cherry onto the straw and rested it in a coupette so the cherry floated in the middle of the drink and it looked like a bakewell tart. we called it a 'slakewell'.

it was fucking disgusting and peter and petra and the two little shits one with their weirdly refreshing champagne and tomato juice concoction. i was mad as fuck. apparently the two little shits gave us like 1/10 for every score and the instructor didn't interfere. fuck those little shits. but to be fair the slakewell was revolting.

Calvados is the shit. Maybe that's a bad brand or something (the price seems too good to be true), but calvados is one of the best liquors out there. In the US everyone uses Laird's apple brandy because calvados is twice the price, but it's so good.

I don't like licorice taste, so I don't care for anise-flavored stuff. Absinthe, sambuca, raki/ouzo, etc. I don't mind it in Jagermeister because it's mixed in with like 40 other things. Also, any kind of cheap flavored vodka is just ass. A friend and I once got wasted on cherry Burnett's vodka mixed with Minute Maid lemonade because it was all we had.

That was a bad crossfading experience. After drinking a glass of anisette and smoking most of a blunt, I walked most of the way to my dorm before finding a small toad. I wanted to be its friend, so I picked it up. After gently picking it up, I discovered that it had a little cut on its face. I ran back to the friend's dorm because I really wanted to put antibiotic on the toad's face cut, but they made me put it in the kitchen sink while another person insisted that I carry it back outside with a paper towel. My toad friend was released in the bushes and hopped away before I threw up all of the ansiette and half a pizza.

It was an experience. Also, did not taste good unmixed.

This is probably my worst. It tastes of absolutely nothing but has a lingering unpleasant aftertaste.

Gather a large soup pot, a funnel, a large glass jug, a balloon, a gallon of organic apple cider, six large apples or their equivalent in crabapples, a packet of brewer's yeast, a pound of sugar, three anise star pods, two cinnamon sticks, and a small handful of cloves.

2. Pour the cider into a large pot and set it to boil. Core and grate the apples into this, then add the sugar. Boil while stirring for about ten to fifteen minutes, and then let it cool to room temperature. Add the yeast, stirring gently to incorporate it evenly.

3. Funnel the apple mixture into the glass jug, and then seal the mouth of the jug with the balloon. Prick a pin hole in the top of the balloon. It will act as a filter so the gas from fermentation can escape without any contaminants entering the bottle. 4. Place your setup in a cool, dark place. Probably a closet.

5. The first part of fermentation will carry on for about a week. At this point, filter out the silt and apple, and place your liquid back in the jug. Add the whole spices and replace the balloon.

6. You can feed the yeast more sugar to keep them active, but eventually they will die off from alcohol levels. This should take from two to three weeks after step five. When the balloon no longer inflates, place your liquid in bowls, and then put these bowls in the freezer.

7. Take ice out of the bowls until you have essentially created apple-flavored everclear.


I like to use Gala and Honeycrisp apples, but also enjoy using local crabapples from the park near my house when I can get them. Enjoy!
