I know people carry around pocket knives and use them for meats like steak; I myself am actually looking for a 2.5" ( or under ) knife with a fully serrated edge for just that task.

That's comically small. You'd look ridiculous using it and a serrated knife is basically worthless for any other task. Buy a straight knife in a decent size and sharpen it if it gets dull from using it on plates.
