firstly I would like to say that getting drunk does not involve "losing control of yourself" (well, unless you're like unconsciously posioned drunk), and legit blackouts are actually pretty rare. What alcohol actually does is allow you to enjoy things more. When I get really drunk I normally lose about the last hour before I go to bed, not sure if that counts as blacking out or not.

But everything else is spot on. It keeps me up, games are more fun, movies are more emotional, everything is better.

I usually only drink every once a month or so. When I go to a basketball game it makes it more fun if you have a few beers in. But I know not to drink every day or every weekend either. It just makes it all the more special when you actually do drink.

I'm no scotch connoisseur but there's like 10 or so different types of scotch depending on where it was made. The flavors are very different.

Also, more years don't necessarily mean better. I've had 12 year scotch that tasted better than 18 year old scotch.

Maybe whiskey just isn't the drink for you. There's nothing wrong with that. I'd still say do a little research and buy different kinds. Experimentation is the only real way you're going to find a drink you like. There might be a perfect whiskey for you and you just haven't found it yet.

I've been drinking some alcohol, mainly sake and shochu, and they both taste like beer.
Meaning that I can't stand them both, because they both smell and taste like beer to me.
But I have been able to handle drinking wine of different sorts.
Will I be able to enjoy other types of hard liquor based on these prior experiences? Which type of hard liquor will I be more predisposed to drinking?

I pretty much never get drunk anymore. I have one drink, sometimes 2 if I'm at a happy hour or out with friends.

I'll usually have 3-5 drinks once per year, around Thanksgiving when my sister, cousins, and I have a tradition of bar hopping one night when we're all in town.

In college, I definitely liked doing an Irish Car bomb or 2 with a couple of beers afterwards.
