What is the single most versatile cooking vessel one can have?

No wai. Really?
>>

A large steel lined heavy aluminum saute pan, if I had to go with just one.

With cover of course

Bad choice senpai, you need something with high walls so you can at least make soup.
>>
>>7523232
High walls make it impossible to control what's in the pan without tongs, rendering it useless for fried eggs, fish, etc. Whereas you can make soup with a saute pan, you just need to use the lid to control evaporation
>>
Enameled cast iron dutch oven.
>>
silver lined copper saute pan

Got. A carbon steel wok and it is pretty versatile. Eggs, sauteeing, frying, and stir frying. But its not great sauces, or stews so i would have to say an all clad dutch oven. You can do pretty much everything except making small amount of sauces. But you san sear, braise, stew, fry, even bake.

Personally I cook with one stainless frypan and one stainless saucepan which covers everything. But if I could only have one item then a large pot like your pic but in stainless steel would work.

Large base means you can use it like a frypan.
Walls mean you can make braises and soups.
Stainless so you can cook whatever you want without worrying too much.
>>
I really like my pressure cooker. I cook stuff in an elevated pan inside it. Brown rice and soaked beans take less than half the time.
>>
ITT people choose pans as their pot
