How do you use star anise, /ck/?

I use it in pho or an aroma pot.

Aside from that I never use it.

Use it with other aromatics (ginger, scallions, garlic, Sichuan peeper) added to stock to make a poaching liquor or noodle soup base. 3 or 4 is enough to give 2 litres of stock a delicious anise background note.

made a Mediterranean chicken marinade with that stuff, from foodwishes. came out weird, i wasnt used to the flavor i guess. never thought cinnamon would go with chicken. turned out when i ate the leftovers, it was like 10x more delicious. some things you just got to get used to i guess.

OP, it also works well with curries, when you add the cumin/paprika/turmeric to the caramelised onions/chillies/garlic, throw a star anise in too. Works best with chicken though.
