Pretty much this. There are a ton of very good wines in the $10-15/bottle range. Wine taste can also be incredibly subjective. There may be some varieties that you really like and some that you don't.

Just start trying different varieties and different brands and you'll start to learn what you like and what you don't like.

It depends on what you're looking for and what you're pairing it with. That being said there are a couple of wines I like that should be easy to find in any supermarket, more or less.

Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel is usually about $10, it's big and fruit forward.

Barefoot is okay but not great, on the other hand they are usually only about $5 and they stand out at the price point. It's my go-to brand with non-wine drinkers, as a basic table wine and for cooking with.

You could try looking for affordable wines from better known vineyards, Mouton Cadet is a $13 wine from Chateau Mouton Rothschild. They make a Bordeaux and a few other varieties now. Decoy is a another affordable wine from Duckhorn, last time I was at the market Decoy was $9 and Duckhorn was $90.
