It has been a difficult quest to find a quality peeler that I like. I know I want a straight peeler and have tried swivels but have been unable to find one that meets my expectations for a "lifetime" purchase. I have not experimented yet with a non swivel straight peeler and wondered what /ck/ thought. It seems that the brand names behind the non swivels are more respected in the general culinary sense of branding at least that I have seen. What do you prefer coo/ck/s?

I hire soldiers from the 1950s to peel my potatoes.

a peeler isnt a lifetime purchase
you use it alot and it gets dull then you buy a new one
the one you pictured usually works great. its cheap, cuts good and you can abuse it then throw it out.
i get a few years use out of one of those and to me they work better than any "fancy" one
>>
>>7390429
Whats that little button in the middle for?
>>
>>7390410
Most of the guys from those days are too shaky to peel anymore. At least around here. Many also are missing the required fingers sadly or I would definitely just source the labor.
>>
>>7390435

popping out the blade most likely
>>
>>7390433
I guess but my mom has a peeler that she has owned since before I was born and it still peels awesome. It's a straight swivel and all the straight swivels I can find seem to be incredibly poorly reviewed as falling apart or being dull etc.
>>7390435
No idea. It's a Google image
>>
>>7390435
the blade retracts into the peeler.

peelers are much better at peeling than knives
>>
>>7390480
If you suck at knives, maybe
>>
>>7390481
Implying a tool designed for one specific purpose can be outdone by a tool that has not. I mean I'll julienne with my knife because it's something I don't do every day. But I use a peeler every single day. It just makes sense to have an efficient tool for the job.
>>
>>7390481
Peelers are better than knives despite your pride in suck appeal.
>>
>>7390388
So getting back to the point...swivel or fixed for straight peelers? Fixed is easier for eye removal I would guess since the swivels have a tendency to...swivel. The internet seems to say that the swivel helps but whenever I use mine it just locks back to one position anyway...are swivel peelers just a meme? I mean it's the gap between blades that determines the cutting depth anyway right?
>>
>>7390481

no

peelers are better than knives at peeling

they make it a lot easier and consequently a lot faster

I know you're looking for straight peelers, but seriously consider a titan
Bought it for the vegetable noodle cutter it comes with because I wanted to try zucchini noodles, but I forgot about it almost immediately and kept using the peeler.

I can peel a potato in 7 seconds. Being able to move the peeler back and forth is something you can never go back to being without.

>>7390568
Except a peeler is much better than a knife

Stick to counting to potato, because you certainly can't peel them

How's it feel to be a loser? Do you enjoy being a loser?
>>

How does it feel you can't even manage the most basic of cooking tasks without buying a slap-chop, a peeler, a garlic press, etc?

i use these, they're pretty alright. i like the to use the one on the right to julienne carrots for salads

That's odd...I hated using those tools. Most specially the julienne aspect because it was almost impossible to clean properly.

I find that the peelers like the one in the pic with the blade in the middle are the best.
>>
I never peel anything. Even things that are meant to end up in a smooth consistency are not hurt overmuch by a bit of peel.

Obviously I'm only talking about edible peel, but peelers aren't useful for removing inedible peels anyway.
