>Lower middle class starts at about 45k a year.
I know the super-rich like to constantly redefine poverty to distract people from the fact that they are stealing all the wealth, but can we just accept that the official definition of "poverty" is wrong, and that actual poverty is $50k or below?

I'm pretty sure $11,700 is my grocery, restaurant, and alcohol budget for the year. That doesn't get into keeping a roof over my head, clothes, transport, etc.

Lower middle class starts around $75k.

Middle middle is $150k

Upper middle is in the $200 range, and above $300 is where you start being called "rich".
>>
>>7371824
Maybe what defines poverty is the standard of living in your area. A family in rural Tennessee can make $75k and have 2 or more cars, own their house and help put their kids through college but they'd be living with significantly less in NYC or Boston.
>>
>>7371824
Seconding this.

Poverty tier- below 30k
Low income tier- 30k-75k
Lower middle class tier- 75k-120k
Middle class tier- 120k-200k
Upper middle class tier- 200k-300k
Upper class tier- 300k-500k
Actually starting to be rich tier- 500k-1m
Rich tier- 1m+
>>
>>7371851

Is this pr person or household? A norwegian would like to know
>>
>>7371854
A four person household, I assume. 75k a year for one person isn't exactly 'low income'.
>>
>>7371851
Household income is $110k and this is spot on.

Sounds like a lot, but after taxes and healthcare, we're down to about $65k. Add 401k, home and car insurance, small mortgage, food, living expenses, and everything else, I'm left with about$300 of disposable income.

Shitty house and cars, but bills are paid and have a few bucks at the end of the month. Thats lower middle in my eyes.

I couldn't imagine having kids or debt at this income though.
>>
>>7371851

by definition middle class should be in the middle. 70% of US households never make above $65k.

depends where you live though. in any major city $100k is not that much really.

Poverty tier- below 60k
Low income tier- 50k-100k
Lower middle class tier- 100k-150k
Middle class tier- 150k-300k
Upper middle class tier- 300k-500k
Upper class tier- 500k-1m
Actually starting to be rich tier- 1m-10m
Rich tier- 10m+

Given that your supposed "middle class" and upwards is effecively maybe less than 5% of the US population. I think by definition that distribution is wrong.

Given the mean wage is about 30000$ a year, actual middle class is in the range around 40000$-80000$.
>>
>>7371865

You need to sort your financial life out. If that's actually the case you're really fucking shit at managing your money. A comfy life for 3 people can be had for 40k$ easy, 30-35k$ if you're any good at managing money. Also enjoy never ever retiring.
>>
>>7372833

>Settled on a shitty job hand coding emails

If you think you're that poorly compensated start your own buisness, nobody is forcing you to keep working for that company. Or maybe just wisen up to the fact that there's a lot more going on in your company than you.

I get that you're mad that I can manage my finances and you can't. But you really should take it as encuragement that there's a better life out there for you, if you just get some simple money management skills.
You should start with cancelling your cable, biking to work or at least downsizing your car.
>>
>>7371824
LOL

And here I pulled in $15k last year, eat comfortably, have a good pc that i spend all day playing vidya on, spend about $50/week on booze/drugs, and pay $800/month on rent and electric. It makes me want to scream when I hear about single people making $30+ and just not having enjoyable lives. If I had even $5k to throw around extra I'd have a fucking blast for a long time.

>>
>>7373348
Even more fun when you're young and doing that. It gives you time to not only reflect on things but also to take girlfriends to places and check things out, even on a whim.

And that's nothing compared to others doing orders of magnitude more.

It does take some work but I was doing it since I was a little kid so never thought it slavish at all. I thought it fun and still do.

The key defining characteristic of the middle class is that the middle class accumulates capital to pass on to their children. How many american households do that?
