This would also be useless in making grocery lists for me as well. If I'm cooking for myself I just buy ingredients for whatever sounds good that week. If I'm cooking for company, same rule applies and they usually enjoy whatever I make.

a better application would be to have a barcode scanner which records the info and warns you when things are about to expire.
