Eggs. I tried that yolk-only recipe. Your sauce comes out way too thick doing that, unless you replace the discarded whites with pasta water, so you might as well just use the full egg.

Black pepper.

Bit of extremely finely grated parmesan.

Spaghettoni in boiler with a spash of oil.

Tiniest bit of olive oil in Ban.

Bacon bits in pan--authentic calls for guanciale or pancetta but American slab bacon is fine, maybe even preferable from a pure-taste perspective.

Timing is important. Bacon should hit a HOT pan when the pasta is about half done, so the pan needs to have been pre-heated a bit.

Cook the bacon about 4 or 5 minutes depending on the heat.

Remove from heat. Add the spaghetti to the pan with the bacon. Use this opportunity to mix up the pasta and the bacon vigorously, as you'll need to have pan away from the heat for 1-2 minutes before adding the sauce, otherwise the sauce will turn into scrambled eggs.

Finally, add the sauce and stir up a little more.

Basically, timing is very important with this dish.
