It's nonsense, but I'll try it out
>>
Got an air fryer, can I do anything neat with it?
>>
Yep, I got 50 pounds of bread flour, and two jars of jam (blueberry-jalapeno, apricot-jalapeno). The former was something I asked for, the latter, I have no fucking idea what I'm going to do with it.
>>
>>7202895
Jam for all that toast you'll have :^)

I got a griddle, I've used it and cleans super easy so I like it

I know it's not a top tier one, but I finally got a meat thermometer.

Side note, say I'm grilling a steak, how often would you check the temp? I'd rather not poke the hell out of it
>>
i got a pasta maker, actually so much fun and super tasty, probs best gift
>>
>>7202917
when you think it's done
>>
>>7202902
I'll probably use it all before the end of February

>>7202917
A much better tool than most of the gifts in this thread. As for how often, honestly you'll only need to poke meat once or twice, you just use the thermometer to checking for doneness, common sense about time applies.
>>
>>7202864
PLEASE tell me what vegetables with your spiral slicer cook well or not. Especially interested in zuchinni.
>>
>>7202917

I've been asking for a thermometer with a cord that you can put in the oven and have a timer go off when it reaches the temp you set it for (or use to monitor beer brewing) for years.

But seriously, anon, you shouldn't need a meat thermometer to temp a steak.
>>
>>7202864
A dehydrator, ice-cream maker, milk frother, some calcium chloride (with some calciumc lactate on its way in the mail), isomalt sugar, miracle berry tablets and a book about making the perfect cup of coffee (which I don't drink, at all); altogether a nice haul.

Already dried some apple slicers, and should have banana chips ready in the morning.
>>
>>7202917
I have one of the larger versions, and it's breddy gub. The temperature is read close the point of the probe, unlike a lot of cheaper thermometers which use a larger part of the probe surface to relate temperature data, and it's pretty accurate and fast. I think the smaller one is a 2 degree maximum margin on the temperature reading, and something like a 5 or 6 second response time. In any case, it's a whole lot better than the majority of thermometers out there.
For a steak, do >>7202931 but err on the side of caution. You can always put the probe back in where you did the first time. In general, though, the less you need to mess with a protein, the better. You'll get better at estimating time and temperature gradients as you go.
>>
>>7202945
It can be a helpful tool to dial in the right zone for steak doneness. He won't need to use it often, but it can be pretty helpful to put a qualitative thing (apparent doneness) to a number.

I got a 12 piece Cuisinart cookware set. I just moved into my new apartment so I was very happy to receive this.
>>
I didn't get anything, but my mom got a Gordon Ramsay cookbook. It actually has lots of nice recipes.
I thought I was getting an electric skillet from my aunt because my gift was wrapped and packaged in a skillet box, but it turned out to be a fucking winter coat. Could have been worse, but I was still bummed.
>>
>>7203051
kind of hokey they include the lids in the piece count

I got a bunch of clothes that arent gonna fit, so Ill return them all this week and probably buy a few pieces of cookware and a winter motorcycle jacket like I actually needed
>>
>>7203048
Use it for foaming stuff; so far I've made excellent chocolate milk with it, and I think it should do well on egg whites too.
>>
Got a new slow cooker that isn't 40 years old like my current one
>>
6 quart Dutch oven. I've been wanting one for a while and my sister delivered, now I'm just trying to decide what meal to break it in with. I'll probably do Swiss steak or a chicken.
>>
Food related gifts, yes. Cooking related, no.
>Make homemade jam one year for gifts because I'm really into canning
>Every year since I've received storebought gifts of jam from the person I gave it to
I don't understand it. If it were anyone else I'd assume it was some sort of passive-aggressive sleight but it's my grandmother gifting me it.
>>
One of those coffee makers that takes those capsule things. Plus a box of maybe a hundred or so of different kinds of the capsules.

Thanks, Mom.
>>
>>7203677
maybe your jam was shit-tier and she wants you to have nice tasting things in your life.

I hope you said thanks to gram-gram
>>
Got a new stock pot with a lid that actually works haha.

A new spice rack with 20 slots, probably need a bigger one I have a ton of spices.

Some large Tupperware that I was in dire need of

A mortar and pestle which was probably my favorite gift. I love fresh ground pepper and it's much more floral when it's done with a mortar and pestle instead of a hand grinder.
>>
>>7203732

Oh! And some sauce pots which I also really needed.
>>
>>7202864
The only kitchen item I received was a large food mill, which I'd been wanting for awhile, for when I make tomato sauce and other sauces/fruit butters. Other than that, I didn't need a fucking thing for the kitchen. It's too small for all the kitchen supplies I have now as it is.
>>
>>7202864
Stand mixer. I feel like I have unlocked a world of possibilities
>>
Got a Hario Skerton and a bottle of Zyr as far as /ck/ stuff goes
>>
Got a Boos maple cutting board. My gf's cheap bamboo board was splitting like crazy.

My first cast iron skillet which I was really wanting.

Three cookbooks and a knife skills book. The book is pretty basic but it does have some good info on breaking down poultry and stuff.

Sur la table gift card which i'll use to buy a new chef's knife and a kitchen scale.
>Recommendations on a <$100 8" chef's knife?

>>

Got one of these bad boys.
Tried the scrambler, doesn't work (as expected). The only thing I can think of would be to get smaller eggs for the next trial.
Gonna try the cracker some other time. I have slightly more hope for the cracker, but not much. It'll probably fuck up the yolk and the shell will be shrapnel.

I also got Gingerbread men cookie cutters and a silicon baking sheet.
>>
>>7204610

I have a 5 cup Zojirushi (which I've yet to fill in over 2 years) and aside from the thing already taking up half the counter, one of their little cups is plenty of rice for two people as part of a meal.

Strip peeler? Yea, never thought of getting one of those. Thanks. I think I'll pick one up monday.

Other way I suppose would be to cut diagonal lines in the veg and slice with a regular peeler? But idk how well that would work. I'm an amateur.

Is the yellow handled tool in the picture a type of strip peeler? Haven't seen one that looks like that before. Pretty neat.

Also this thing looks pretty neat (pic related).

ABSOLUTELY SAVAGE

Spiral slicers I believe are mainly for making noodles out of vegetables, which is a great substitute if you eat low-carb like I do. Zucchini seems to be the most popular use.

I suppose you can also use it for making neat vege garnishes, if your into that sort of thing. Or to add some stuff/flair to salads, like spiral sliced carrot or some such.

I love mine. You have to adjust the cooking times because it seems to cook stuff faster, but it makes great, crispy pizza crust and cookies.

I got a v60 cone for making coffee. Still learning to use it properly, but I like the coffee it makes. Much weaker than my french press, but still a flavorful cup.

Wooden cutting board from little sister. Dunno the quality but it came with a mineral oil tutorial and it looks good. Better than the stained plastic one we had!

Works pretty good but clean very well, the plastic allows easy mildew buildup.

I hope that was just a stocking stuffer.
