I'm in New York for a few weeks. Anyone know where to get good unadon?
>>
I thought unadon was noodles?

Me to.
They have good lasagna made with fresh noodles
>>
I guess its a bowl with eel and rice

There are a number of places in the East Village that have decent una don. Sobaya for example.

In USQ area you can try Ootoya.

If you have access to a car you can try Umeya across the GW bridge in NJ. Overkill for just unadon but their omakase is ridiculously underpriced.

That's udon.

that's udon

unagi + udon = unadon

That's udon.

Unadon is unagi (eel) donburri (rice bowl).

suffix -don means rice bowl. you might be thinking of udon, which is a type of noodle?

Afterthought - there is a place off USQ called Ennju which is inexplicably popular and also highly mediocre. You might hear people recommending it, especially the younger crowd.

It's a convenient lunch spot when you just want something hot and Japanese-ish, but if you're on a mission to eat good unadon don't get trolled into going there. Unless you have flyover-tier standards you're not gonna like it.

I wouldn't go there just for fucking eel, but Yakiniku West is probably the best (affordable) Japanese place I've been to in Manhattan.

I can't remember if it's on Tuesdays or Thursdays, but one day a week things are half price; I'd probably make a reservation.

It's (obviously) primarily a yakiniku place, but I'm pretty sure they have a good selection of other things as well. Last time I went we got a side plate of beef tongue sashimi.

I've actually been there twice. First place I ever had katsudon at and it was good the first time, fucking horrible the second.

Thanks, sounds worth checking out
