We used to grow an older variety of persimmons, where the fruit would have to get super super soft before it was ripe, most people would have thought it was off, but the fruit isn't spoilt, and tastes really rich, like jam. If you ate it earlier it was extremely tannin.

The varieties I've bought in the supermarket are ripe when they're still firm, but aren't nearly as tasty.

You should just carry around a sack of persimmons and offer them to everyone, so you become the persimmon guy. Persimmon Pete, they'll call you. Once you've got the reputation built up, asian qts will know exactly who to go to for their persimmon fix.

Those are god tier. I think people are just terribly impatient, because it does take quite awhile, compared to most fruits, to reach optimum ripeness. BUT OH LAWD, when they're soft and ripe, they are fucking elder god tier.

Probably bought poor produce from someplace like Walmart. They look okay mostly there but everything is bland. I can tolerate it mostly but I can't stand tomatoes from there.

OK, Y'all clearly have no idea that there are two common kinds of persimmons and a ton of other varieties.

This is the Fuyu persimmon. It can be eaten hard and unripe for a stronger flavor or it can be eaten soft and ripe for a sweeter, blander flavor.

You can also find these dried whole at Asian markets - great in a hot infusion or as a snack.

This is a Hachiya persimmon. They can be eaten ONLY when EXTREMELY soft unless you want your whole mouth to shrivel up. Cut off the top and eat it with a spoon.

Living in korea. These grow everywhere. Got to pick some at my University. Sweet like honey and super soft. They make you constipated though

The mushy ones are really lovely. But I prefer the hard ones. I dont know the names of them in english. Koreans just call them gam and sweet gam.

Theres other types, but not as common so i havent learned them yet.
