Hey /ck/. I got some great news yesterday that I've gotten an interview as an assistant butcher. I really want this job so I was wondering if anyone knew what to expect at the interview or what I should do in preperation.

Put band-aids all over your hands.

Looking for legitimate advice. I have no experience in a professional environment, the only thing I've done is prep meat in my own home
Just be yourself :^)
Really if you're enthusiastic about it and can handle a sizeable knife then you're probably going to get the job. It's not like you're going to apply for sous chef.
Additionally you can try and Google about different cuts available in your area and look into where in the animal they belong and how does it actually reach the consumer.
Good luck.

I was going to go through all the different cuts and learn those cow and pig picture things. Just wondering if there were any questions I should be prepared for in the interview? As although I love cooking I havent ever had the money to buy all the kitchen shit I've wanted in terms of ware and so on

I made the mistake of going to culinary school, and for meat cutting/butchery, I ended up with the most notoriously anal instructor in the entire school.
It just so happened that my health insurance had just run out, so I was loopy as fuck off my meds.
Literally every single day of class I cut myself.
>still ended up one of the only anons who got an a at the end

Tell them that you're enthusiastic about meat, have good work ethic and are willing to work for free for a week to demonstrate it.
Be honest about your actual lack of experience but emphasize that you're willing to learn more in your free time.

Don't need to emphasise a week working free, its a job interview, not a volunteer position.
I did hand in my CV and covering letter which stated I fell in love with cooking at university, and grew up in a family which taught me how to pick out the best meats and how to tell the difference. But ill make sure to expand on that in the interview. Will defo not lie about my lack of experience, thanks.

your the culinary guy, what the fuck should we know?
get a haircut and don't give short answers.
be passionate and when you can flip the script on the potential employer. Ask "what does your company offer me?"
Do a little research on the employer as well.
if they ask you when you can start I always ask to be allowed to put in my 2 weeks notice at my current job. This will say a lot about your character.
i usually just quit my last job the following day and jack off for a couple weeks till my new job starts.
only do that if you're kind of a big asset or rare talent to come by. I'm a construction specialist in hazardous material management so I get offers all the time for work.
just walk in with a bacon suit
wear a hat
when you sit down for the interview be like
"woops, excuse me while I remove my hat, how rude of me"
;^)
when you lift the hat, sublty reveal that the inside is lined with strips of bacon
wink
works every time
