Hey /ck/, I was gonna thaw some pork steaks in a bag cold water to have tonight. My question is, how long should they be submerged to be fully thawed?
>>
Until they're no longer frozen.

This doesn't sound right
>>

A few hours
>>
>>7070868

87 minutes
>>
4-5 hours, just feel them you'll be able to tell.
>>

This anon. Just check on them once and awhile.
There's no good way to predict when it will be without and anal retentive amount of temperature monitoring.
>>
>>7070884

this.

it's impossible to give you an exact time since it depends on many variables: temp of the water, temp of the steaks before they went in the water, temp in the room, how thick the steaks are, etc, etc.

Thanks anons, gonna put em in now.

Additionally, i read i should change the cold water every 30min, but that sounds like a pain. Do i really
>>
>>7070894

changing the water will speed up the thawing slightly. it's pointless unless you are in a hurry.

Put the bag submerged like you planned to initially, but put the bowl in the sink with a trickle of cold running water. It'll do essentially the same thing for you.

Here you go buddy!

I'm pretty sure submerging it in water and not changing the water out every so often is going to be slower than just letting it thaw out in the air (because air will transfer heat into something more readily than water at the same temperature).
>>
You need to have a little cold running water going into the bowl if you want them to thaw any faster than they would on the counter.
