What went wrong? Why is their business flopping?
>>
Because I can go to shake shack up the street and get better tasting burgers
>>
>overpriced
>not a diverse menu
>throw fries into a bag which gets greasy
>shitty buns which ALWAYS break apart

I could go on. But I wont
>>
Their burgers aren't anything special but cost more than other burger joints. They also shovel in a pile of soggy fries that are pretty bad.
>>
There's a hip hotdog/burger place that makes ridiculous burgers for less than what Five Guys charges for ordinary ones.
>>
>>7029207

I'll never understand why places that make decent burgers still use those shitty ass buns.
>>
They don't serve beer/alcohol.
Average burger+beer>>>>above average burger
>>
>>7029204
In London a five guys burger with cheese and bacon costs £9.50
That's about 15 dollars
What the fuck are they doing
>>
>keep raising prices for no reason
>HEY WHERE DID EVERYONE GO???!?!

They raised the price of a single patty burger to $5.99 where I live.

Not worth it
>>
Overpriced burgers and soggy fries
>>
>>7029217
They serve beer in the UK

Too expensive to eat on the regs though. $22 meal...
>>
>>7029215

I'm going to assume good buns have a short shelf life.
>>
I love 5 guys. I think their burgers and fries are great. Its just too fucking expensive.

Burger, medium fries and a drink comes to around £15, which is around $23. For comparison, I could go to quite to quite a few different, fairly respectable restaurants and eat 2 courses from their lunch menu for £12.
>>
>>7029225
They can afford the waste

>>7029204
They've gotten cheap enough to hire Mexicans and we all know what happens when Mexicans work at burger joints
>>
Five Guys is fast food, but you're paying luxury prices for it. There's no reason or excuse to pay 15 bucks for a burger and some fries with a drink when I could get the same shit at burger king for five dollars less. Not to mention their fries taste like shit. When I want fries, I want to taste potato and salt, not fucking peanuts.
>>
They jumped the shark with their literally pint-sized six dollar milkshake.
>>
because it costs m ore than every other chain of its quality tier
>>
Sonic is better.

>does chili cheese tots
>>
>>7029714
>Five Guys is fast food

Isn't it considered "fast casual."
>>
Their game is slipping.

I went to mine a month ago ordered a double cheese with grilled onion, pickles, lettuce, ketchup, mustard for myself and double bacon cheese same toppings for a friend. There were two people in front of me. I shit you not it took 20 minutes, my burger was plain bacon no cheese with mushrooms, tomato, raw onion, and my friend's was just cheese with tomato, no onion, and pickles.

I was like what the fuck is this shit? Never has an issue prior to this.
>>
>>7029767
Culvers is better yet, fried cheese curds are the ultimate side
>>
In my area a little cheese burger from five guys is ~5 dollars which is only ~20 cents more than a burger from McDonald's or Wendy's

Everyone always complains that the doubled patty burgers are too expensive but there is almost a half pound of meat on the burger. Also s bacon cheese burger is 920 calories so it's basically a meal by itself.

If your fries get soggy it's cause you closed/crumpled the bag which trapped the steam coming off the fries causing them to become soggy

Also why is five guys always called out on being overpriced when shake shack charges ~70 cents less for a burger that is tiny as fuck

If you couldn't tell I work at 5 guys
>>
>>7029782
>I shit you not it took 20 minutes

That's normal.
>>
>>7029793
Not at mine. Ten tops with a few people in front of me.
>>
>>7029790
Also you get free extra cheese and bacon if you want
>>
>>7029790
McDoubles are like $1.50 or something

Who the fuck buys a nearly $5 burger at McDonalds?
>>
>>7029793
>that's normal

Nope target ticket time is 7 minutes. The worse I've seen was 14 minutes and had a line out the door
>>
>>7029836
My friend does like every time

I usually go to get some breakfast stuff and he usually gets a quarter pounder with cheese.

Also I was just comparing the two cause they are equally sized burgers at slightly different prices with a huge gap in quality
>>
They tried to expand too quickly, and tried adjusting prices to a payment style that quickly fell out of favor. It turns out people actually want FAST food, not psuedo-gourmet at gourmet prices with their only real selling point being a bag of fries.

I have an In-N-Out, a Charburger, a local late night diner and a 5 Guys all within a few blocks of where I live. If I want cheap, I go to In-N-Out. If I want a good burger, I go to Charburger or the local diner. There is literally never a time where going to 5 Guys even crosses my mind.
>>
Flopping? Says who?
>>
>>7029205
are you in 631?
>>
I think whataburger is better so go there instead if I want to spend $10 on grease

>>7029204
Too much burger competition. When they were one of the few gourmet burger joints in existence I went there all the time. Now, I have smash burger, shake shack, flip burger, farm burger and other local options. More variety, more options for things to eat, cheaper/more expensive and better options available and holy shit is 5 guys terrible for you.
>>
I don't know the scene overseas but in the UK there's all these "healthy burger" places opening up, they're killing it atm
>>
Because Wendy's burgers are better and an equivalent meal is about 2/3 the price. I will admit I've only been to five guys once but I'll never go back.
>>
>>7029767

Sonic, Inn 'n Out, Whataburger, etc. All better chains with at least comparable taste for like, ten bucks less and doesn't taste like it was made on my backyard grill.
>>
>>7030132
There's a shake shack on long island?
>>
>>7029705
What happens?
>>
There burgers & fries are still the best.
>>
>regular fry please
>here you go sir, three cups of salted fried salt, that'll be $7
>>
>>7029814
Complain to corporate you'll get free shit and the store will be forced to step their game up
>>
>>7030307

It's the not the customers job to improve the damn store.
>>
>>7030316
But you get tons of free shit in return

Also customer feedback is important in any industry
>>
>>7030316
Fucking commie
>>
implicated in an unethical gaming journalism cabal
>>
>>7029793
That's not normal, if the customer has to wait 20 minutes for a burger then it means that there's no runners helping the cook out.
>>
You can get a better burger at Jack in the Box. Got a buttery Jack and some hashbrowns for like 4 bucks today. It's like 10 bucks for a burger at 5 Guys. Disgusting.
>>
>>7029896
>psuedo-gourmet
It's not even "pseudo." You can't really say they're even trying to fake a gourmet experience when you have to sit next to sacks of potatoes and a peanut shell trough. It's just an incredibly overpriced burger that you get to watch a greasy teenager make. No thanks.
>>
They expanded way too fast and couldn't maintain quality, while simultaneously raising prices.

I'm from VA and the early Five Guys were a bit pricey but the food was great.
>>
>>7030958
I don't think the problem is quality, its just that it costs more than everything else that is in its category
>>
grease pits are passe
>>
>>7029204
When I first tried it I really liked it but the last few times I've had it there wasn't much value in paying the ridiculous prices for a fucking burger and fries. Their buns are fucking awful and fall apart every single time. The last few times I had their fries they were soggy and bland but covered with salt.

For 2/3rd the price I could go to a fast food place like Wendy's or Burger King. For around or on par of the price I could go to a better burger place and get a sit down meal. 5 Guys just doesn't even enter the equation for me when I want a burger and fries anymore.
>>
they never expanded to calfironia
>>
>>7030996
they are in California and still not worth it
>>
>>7029204
> What went wrong? Why is their business flopping?

I wasn't aware that it was but if so, I'd guess its because while they've got the best fast food burgers, they don't have a drive-thru (or at least one hereabouts don't).

I'll only get Five Guys on rare occasions when I've got the day off. During the work week if I don't bring a sandwich, I'll just hit the McDonalds or Taco Bell drive-thru.
>>
>>7029204
why do you say that? I actually manage their network security and they are doing some weird things.
>>
>>7031022
>they are doing some weird things.
like
>>
>>7031047
fucking answer my question fagoot. why are they flopping?
>>
>>7029780
What the fuck you branding shill, stop pushing fast casual.
>>
>>7029204
How are you getting financial data from a private company?
>>
>>7030992
Exactly this.
The burgers fall apart if you so much as look at them sternly never mind trying to pick one up to eat it. The fries are a mess of soggy, potato-based sadness.
I generally go for a best-two-out-of-three approach when trying a new place (and, if it's a chain, preferably from two different locations) before passing judgment. Both times I went to 5G, I was left with disappointment and a lighter wallet.

For the price, $12.51 for a bacon cheeseburger and an order of fries (tax included), I'd prefer a burger and fries from a bar. One around here serves a half pound bacon cheeseburger platter with fries for $10.26, after tax, leaving just enough left over for a $2 domestic beer. And it's on a delicious fucking roll rather than a flimsy-as-fuck bun.
>>
>>7030996
they are in California but that put them in direct completion with IN-N-OUT. So while 5 guys does a different type of burger (more toppings, larger default size), In-N-out still has a cheaper product that arguably is tastier.
>>
>>7030110
Just OP. They're still growing rapidly
>>
>>7030316
Customers are considered the most important voice in the industry. When you have a negative experience you're essentially getting paid for your feedback by getting tons of free shit
>>
Becaise I spend $10 for a burger and drink with no fries.

Fuck that.

If they offered a $9.99 mean with a small fry I'd eat there more though.
>>
>>7029204
>they have a call ahead option
>they dont make it till you get there
>>
>>7029204
It stopped being cool
>>
They're fucking expensive. I can eat at a nice burger place like Burger 21 and get a beer or a shake with cheese fries for the same price as a single cheeseburger and a small fry at Five Guys.
>>
>>7029204
a) everyone's hopping on the high-end burger fad
b) as the business grew, so did salaries. More managers and tiers of management were necessary to keep the ball rolling, with the goal of growing the business at a certain, ultimately idealistic percentage. In order to keep their profits and paycheques above the line, they had to start picking away at their bonus system, most of which was aimed at keeping the front-line/kitchen staff happy.
>>
>>7030996
I'm in SoCal and there's a bunch here but it sucks. Small burger and fries and a drink will end up to like $17. Paying that ,ugh to as well go to a non fast food place and get a burger proper

>>
>>7029204

We got one in Glasgow recently, I went to have a look after hearing the hype.

It is expensive. Like, properly expensive for fast food. Burger wasn't bad, but when you consider for the same price I could get a good bar meal or a decent burger at a local place I really don't see the point.

At least McDonalds is cheap.
>>
It should of stayed regional.
>>
>>7029793
At a burger/BBQ place I used to work at, I could knock out several half-pound patties with several toppings in less than seven minutes. If you're unable to knock out 3-4 burger orders on a single grill and back-to-back, that's a problem.

I meant that was normal for Five Guys. Last time I went to the nearest one, it took nearly 20 minutes to get my order. And yes, they make you pay first, so you can't just say "fuck it, I'm going to McDonalds" and then leave.
>>
burgerfi was a lot better tasting to me imho
>>
>>7029204
Way over priced, that's their problem. It's a good burger, but for the price and size, nah, just isn't worth it.
>>
>>7029846
Your friend is an idiot, all their burgers literally taste the same, the only difference is in sauces used on em.

If I don't get breakfast, I'll get either mcdbls, or mc chickens(plain) I eat tartar sauce on my mc chickens.
>>
>>7036002
You can say fuck it demand a refund
>>
>>7036002
Unless there is a line infront of you, a line of atleast 6, and the grill is already full, it should not take 20 mins, that's ridiculous.
>>
>>7029204
hey 5 guys, I know you're monitoring this thread.

in seattle, the prices went waaay up. I enjoy the meal (that selection of toppings) and great customer service, but it was seriously like $15 for a cheeseburger with bacon and a small fries.

I can go a diner in the university district and get a 1/4 lb bacon and egg and cheese topped burger with fries for $8.50. or if I feel really hungry, have all you can eat mongolian grill for $10.

bring those prices down and I'll come back, but for now it's just not competitive.

oh yeah, and caliburger opened last week. you're fucked.
>>
I ate there 10 years ago in Virginia. It was okay, there's one where i'm living now but if i get fast food, i just get two McChickens from mcdonalds.
>>

How's that $15 dollar minimum wage treating you?

Sorry, not their fault here. They are a business with a bottom line and it's a simple cause and affect if they want to continue to offer you their line of products at the same quality.
>>
>>7036872
Also Five Guys your fries are frequently underdone and the portions are occasionally lacking and there's never enough cajun spices
>>
>>7036927
I sure as heck didn't vote in favor of the new minimum wage.

the 5 guys I'm referring to isn't in king county where the new law will apply though.

I hate this. Local cheesesteak joint has the same problem. But they put scorching hot fries in a foam tray that closes, which wets them up fast. But no one else's fries fuck up when you serve them in a bag.
