I feel like an idiot asking this but I read the FAQ and didn't find it there (unless it IS there and I'm doubly dumb) - How important is backing when making an itabag? Wego's and even the knockoff black bags always look kind of cheap imo, but I think a black base bag with a colored background would look best.

Merch tends to blend in very easily on black, so that's a thing to take into consideration. Maybe just get a cheap black knockoff heart bag for now and see how you like it?

I'm currently working with this bag, have an old WIP shot. I'll make sure to post when it's finished as well.
The window's backing fabric has a lot of give, so unless you're stuffing the bag full, you should have plenty of room for deep items. Just keep in mind they'll make the backing sink, so plan accordingly.

Have any of you guys taken more than one bag to a con/event? How'd it work out?
I've taken a regular-sized backpack and a small shoulder bag to a con, and it worked out pretty well--I had my phone and wallet within easy reach in the shoulder bag, and I could put purchases and other stuff I wouldn't really need often in the backpack.

I've taken my two before, a backpack and a tote bag. It was a little tricky because I had all my personal stuff in the backpack and I had to keep taking it off to get to my stuff.
In crowded areas it was a nightmare because people would bump into my backpack constantly and I had plushies safety-pinned to the sides of my backpack so I was really worried they'd be ripped off by the end of con. Thankfully nothing got damaged! Worst that happened was some of the sewing thread holding my EL Wire down snapped but that's a quick hour or two of handsewing to fix.

Looking through my past orders, I see that I've been able to get an 11 doujin order sent to me via SAL small packet, with most of them being the standard 20/30p and one being a manga-sized compilation of doujins, so heavier (212 pages)

Biggest order ever was 14 doujins and I had to split in two to get under 2kg (and then one of the boxes was too big for small packet, good job FJ) but I had three doujins between 60 and 80 pages and two 200p anthologies.

FJ always honors the free shipping for orders over 1500 yens from Surugaya, so I usually only pay the 300 yen fee for the order and the international shipping. I've bought R18 doujins through them before and it never posed a problem, I think that as long as the cover isn't super lewd they don't give a damn (as an aside, why do R18 male oriented doujin covers always look so trashy ? Sometimes I want to claw my eyes out browsing Surugaya)

I read it as "life gamings" at first. The parentheses don't really work, they blend with the Ss too much. Would probably work if they were spaced farther from the letters or if the pin were larger. That said, I love the concept and for the most part the execution is alright, I like the blue one. The letters don't really stand out on the purple one, but of course it'd look better with a different light angle.

Here's my HanaRuby itabag I've been working on for forever lol

The base bag is from Forever 21, I used a bag support foam I bought from my work for the backing bc it didnt come with one and made a cloth case for it with cute fabric. I got the rhinestoning idea from that one Victuuri anon. The inside arrangement was kinda last minute because I did it before I left for the airport for Afest.

I have a bunch more merch for them now so I might end up using the bag for something else but I'm really happy with how it came out in the end.

I used hotfix rhinestones! My work carries the Swavorski brand so its the only one I've used but I'm sure others will work just fine. You need a hotfix applicator to use them but it's definitely worth it to keep the rhinestones in place.

Arrange the large badges in a way that they're not overlapping so much if possible. The top left section of the heart seems bare compared to the other side, maybe consider rearranging the rubber straps or the acrylic charm that's partially covered by the badges. Seller choice is a lot different than website stance/deals. eBay is meant for selling/buying worldwide and advertises as such, but sellers can still choose to only ship domestic. Any tips on making an itaboard? Cork board which you decorate with merchandise of your husbando/waifu/whatever? I see a lot of Japanese people making them and some of them are really decorative, but I'm not too sure on how to attach badges on without damaging the badge.
I'd love to have one as a place to put things that are waiting to go onto a new bag.

For badges just stick them in horizontally? They stay like that. My board has a few of them but mine isn't particularly decorative and cute like some others' might be. Also you can instead get photo boards that are easier to pin through if you're concerned, but those are more meant for photographs.

No it won't? Did you buy your cork board from the dollar store? I don't understand how else it would pierce through the solid wood behind the cork and damage my wall. The picture I posted shows that the pin doesn't even need to go that deep for it to stay since you're not going to be touching and shaking it every day. Sorry it's just most corkboards where I'm from are cork and then a thin layer of cardboard. Pins could very easily go straight through and make it lay on the wall all weird.

Hey, so I'm working on Baby's First Itabag, and I'd like to get some feedback on the design I'm doing on the back of the tote. I don't have enough merch to cover both sides of the bag yet, so I've decided to put all the merch on the plain side of the bag, and just spruce up the back a little bit and let the design be the showcase.

Should I keep the flowers? They look really cheap right now, so I was thinking about adding some ribbon to dress them up. Will that make them look nicer? Initially I was thinking white ribbon, but realized the white might clash with the khaki bag. I was also considering dark blue ribbon, or cutting some ribbon strips from the remains of a black leather hide leftover from a cosplay project.

It's really difficult sometimes to turn official totes into itabags because they're usually "natural"/khaki so it's difficult to go with most colors. I personally would have picked different flowers, specifically ones that are larger so you can remove them from the stems and sew/glue the bud itself to your bag. For a ribbon you could do blue as well but maybe a lighter color or even a chiffon ribbon. Pic related. What ribbon you choose could help with accessories also but I know the base color can be annoying.

I've actually taken some of the bouquets and separated them and cut off the stems so that I can have individual flowers I can place on the other side of the bag. Would doing that on this side too look better than the bouquets?

At least Voltron fan merch is/was very abundant so you shouldn't have as much trouble since they're all over etsy and storenvy. I always post this bag because most Voltron bags I've seen aren't well organized and it's hard to see all the different things they have going on. Nothing about what I said was a blanket statement in context to fan merch but the artist being referred to was princeofichis or ichiarts I believe they go by now. I'm not sure if they're still in the AA game but they've been known to not mail preorders out but have the exact times at a con and don't respond to customer emails/DMs/tweets when it's been months beyond expected mailing date and this isn't just a case of a handful of customers. This is something to be mindful of when looking at Voltron fan merchandise since they produced A LOT of it that was primarily obtainable through in person sales because of issues mentioned above.

Yep, I picked the white with the cat ears to mimic his mask! Originally I had thought to add a backing with his mask patterns, but realized it would be pointless since the merch would cover it all.

I had one of the heart window backpacks for my itabag and then bought so much more merch that I can no longer fit it in there, and right before buying a new base bag, I got laid off.

Overall, the quality seems fine for the price. If you're looking you can tell that they were printed on a home printer, and occasionally they were very slightly off center, but those are just nit picks desu.

I think the quality hit for being printed on an ink jet instead of a laser printer is more obvious on artwork than on test print - I'm attaching mine for comparison, the only pictures I have are pretty small but the smooth gradients are noticeably grainy in person. Which I acknowledge I might be being extra picky about because I'm selling them instead of reserving them for personal use.

I went to Japan back in July and brought a shitton of merch back for my itabag.

Now I'm still missing the my most wanted item which is the Berusaiyu no Bara ribbon keychain that I couldn't find (well that and Oscar x Rascal keychains) but I think for now I'm good.

Advertise advertise advertise. Post about it on facebook, instagram, twitter, the meet-up pages for the convention, any forum they have, etc. Post a map with the location on it & a picture of the location if you have one. Any time you run into someone with an itabag over the weekend ask if they're coming to the meet up - most of the time when you ask, they won't even know it exists. But you tell them, they'll tell their friends, etc.

The meets themselves are generally super casual and low key, just people geeking out over bags and taking pictures, but the key is getting people there in the first place.

It only really works if there's still a coherant theme. Like if it's idol girls you can make Love Live, Idolm@ster, Pripara etc work together because they're all kawaii uguus with candy color theming. Even then it should still be organized coherently, like in a rainbow scheme.

Only time I've seen a vastly different fandom bag work is the anon who literally make a bag that was split in quarters if anyone has a pic.

I kind of like fandom bags because I enjoy watching people love things, but they are pretty much universally ugly because there's no coherent theme.

i brought a bag to Japan with me when I visited and carried it around everywhere. I probably wouldn't do it again since the bag itself got dirty during all the travel but especially in Tokyo when I was near animate it felt nice to see all the other people with their bags and showing off my own. I also attended an event related to the bag so that was another bonus and reason to bring it. If your bag is a backpack or small it might be easier to move around. Since mine hung over the shoulder messenger bag style it felt cramped in stores and busier streets and I kept worrying about hitting people in the thigh or knocking something over. Thankfully the latter never happened.

I then told them that they would h ave no means to be able to report me to PP, and that they don't even have my email. Haven't been posting in these threads for ages, holy shit.
After living in Japan for half a year I moved back to my home country, and goddamn I miss just taking the train to Ikebukuro or Akiba and looking for merch.

Planning on doing a third itabag for T2 because my two current bags just aren't enough. Recently won a loot of merch from Y!A with a lot of can badges, so I'm probably gonna start doing a badge-bag.
With three bags from the same pairing I might as well start planning a larger-scale ita-armor of them as well.

My first coordinated itabag! I have a couple others that aren't /really/ itabags because they're themed school bags with keychains piled on them, but here's my first one with a classic window and everything.

I'd really like to decorate the exterior of the bag but I can't come up with things that aren't frills and flowers since they don't suit the character.

I think the inside could use some decorations, and I'm partially biased towards flowers. You could always go with lilies or lotuses because of Lucio's association with frogs, and frogs and water...wow this probably sounds pretty dumb.

hey, this is >>9609318 again, and I've started to work on the merch side of my tote. I'm making a protective outer bag for it with a top and bottom stripe of colour, which is why the spacing at the top and bottom looks a little off right now. Once the outer bag is finished, it'll likely be repinned a little bit. I've got a few buttons coming in as well, and I just got some clear thread to tie down the figure keychains. Am I on the right track so far?
(Also, all of the flowers are on magnets, so they can be removed/rearranged very easily without hurting the bag)
