To me, casual is about a feeling of comfort or simplicity. So cutsews, knit cardigans, or simple tops rather than extravagant blouses; minimal accessories; and maybe elements of other fashions.

(i'm not the one that posted it) I figure it's because it looks casual in the normal, ordinary way -- like this girl might be going bowling or to hang out with friends instead of going to a lolita meet, if that makes sense. Part of casual lolita is that it's supposed to be toned down to make it easier to wear for everyday. So I guess a coord that looks more "lived in", like you just went to the post office, would give off more casual vibes even if the coord technically has all the lolita components.

OTT and casual are descriptors, they aren't defined styles. they can be added to any substyle, but can't be worn on their own (what would an "OTT lolita" coord look like without a classic/gothic/hime/sweet base?). everything you posted (that is actually lolita) has a substyle it's based on.

that's why so many people get into arguments about what is and is not casual enough to be called "casual lolita." it's also not a substyle-any substyle can be worn casually, there are no "casual lolita" brands, and the only elements that are common amongst what most people consider "casual" coords are cutsews and sometimes skirts... which are available in any substyle.

Casual lolita has always been treated like a substyle in my comm, but maybe not on cgl and cof in recent years.
