These threads are always amusing but I haven't seen one in a while.
Have you ever been mistaken for a completely different character from what you were cosplaying, or have people assumed you to be a character when you weren't even in cosplay at all? Were you upset or did you just laugh it off? Did you correct the person or just let it go?
My friend cosplayed as Singularity, a relatively obscure, short lived character from a Marvel comic called A-Force. No one knew who she was, but the most common thing she got was "mystic". She knew it was unlikely people would recognize her but the make-up and bodysuit looked badass.
>>9585516
Oh my god, Mystique, I'm a dumbass.
>>9585507
I hang out with cosplayers, so when they get stopped, they always assume I'm in a costume. My normal response is "This is how I dress", but occasionally I hit them with something ridiculous. Once, I said I'm cosplaying Darwin from X-Men because I'm black and had on an Xavier School for Higher Learning cardigan.
Venus and Marceline were friends rather than myself, but figured it'd be worth mentioning.
Back in the day my friend's dad was mistaken for an Indiana Jones cosplayer multiple times while in his everyday dad-wear.
I cosplayed Takagi, which is a little bit obscure original character from the artist Tansuke (TNSK). It's no wonder why people thought I did Virgo from Fairy Tail.
Guess it really didn't help that I was hanging out with a friend cosplaying Sora.
I have no idea how but this guy approached me telling my Lulu cosplay looked cute.
This one was specially funny cause a group of 5 or so cosplaying Bleach characters grabbed me and were all excited saying how cool it was they found a Rukia to take a couple pics with.
Didn't have the heart to correct them.
>>9585540
>Back in the day my friend's dad was mistaken for an Indiana Jones cosplayer multiple times while in his everyday dad-wear.
That's the best. I have no real funny stories to contribute because I'm a lolita, except that literally every time I've been to a con someone asks if I'm cosplaying Alice from Alice Madness Returns. For some reason nobody's ever asked if I'm doing Misa.
Ensemble Stars isn't big where I am and I sort of saw this coming, but my friends and I kept count how many people thought I was Ciel: 37.
I tried correcting them but they'd insist that I was Ciel anyway.
I mean at least it's the same game series I guess
>tfw cosplaying a manga outfit from a series that aired twenty years ago
Can't say I did it for the recognition...
>>9585654
in their defense, there are like a billion types of mikus, to the point where the blue twin tails are almost the only identifying factor
God damnit.
>>9585507
Not me, but back in college, I had a friend who was tall, skinny, pale, and had short black hair and glasses. He just needed to toss on a Japanese school uniform and he was about ten different characters at the same time. Toss a beauty mark on him and he would have been spot on for Sakamoto especially.
>>9585666
Seems like an upgrade to me
>>9585586
but weren't you cosplaying.. rukia?
This was after they hugged me. Talk about awkward.
absolutely no one recognized me that day of the con... The only person who took my picture only took it because she thought I was tomoe
t-this is what I get for cosplaying a more obscure figure line...
>>9585612
Because eyepatch + dark hair always equals Ciel, apparently, even if you're wearing thigh highs and a skirt.
>>9585739
Is that Otacon?
>>9585746
yep, its from the Figma Sweet Snake collection
Didn't happen to me, but to a friend of mine a few years back. We've been laughing about it ever since.
>>9585754
It is nice to see people go as Otacon. I usually go as Venom and get called Solid all day.
I mean, Fujiko's old design is pretty much just wavy brunette-red hair and a catsuit, but still, Widow has some pretty distinct features in most of her designs like the belt or huge bracelets that should set her apart from any other catsuit characters.
Hopefully the Jigen's Gravestone version doesn't suffer the same fate, but I suspect it will anyway...
I'm not a huge Marvel fan, dislike the cinematic universe, and I resent pretty much every one of ScarJo's roles in the past 15 years especially butchering The Major's character, so it makes me writhe but I don't really say anything other than a polite correction.
>>9585540
>Back in the day my friend's dad was mistaken for an Indiana Jones cosplayer multiple times while in his everyday dad-wear.
Lol'ed.
A friend of mine used to dress like a vampire: puffy collared shirts with vests and peacoats and knee-high boots. He's toned it down a bit these days but 5-6 years ago he went to a con in his normal attire and people kept asking if he was Alucard from Hellsing.
I know Elsword isn't popular but I don't know how you could mess up these two. Well, he was a merchant so giving compliments for costumes could bring in some money, but at least get it right or don't assume the character.
>>9585754
I own that collection and it's so shameful but I love it
At anime conventions it's more likely that I get recognized as Elizabeth from Persona 3, but the second I go to a comic con...
Most are very nice so I usually laugh it off. I totally see where they're coming from, especially since I've taken to bringing a small rolling suitcase with me instead of bringing a heavy backpack to cons. That screams flight attendant, lol.
>>9585586
i have a feeling you didnt brush your wig
>>9585540
>HuniePop cosplay
10/10, do you have a pic?
>>9585540
>implying people confusing hentai cosplay for an actual game cosplay is a bad thing
>>9585737
uhh, cant really blame them, those are literally the same character
i've cosplayed eliza (skullgirls) as well and been mistaken for other Egyptian themed characters, though i can't remember who they were. was called straight up "cleopatra" once though.
We cosplayed fallout and mad people asked if we were ghostbusters
>>9585646
I'd love to see a pic of your Umi if you have one!
Like feel free to just not talk to me instead, please.
I know they're kinda easy to mix, but I even had one of them cubes with me...
>>9586701
Interesting that they went for Near and not L, at least.
>>9585617
How bad did you bone it or how new was Tales From the Borderlands dude? That's a hell of a fucking leap.
I still don't know how they thought that.
>>9586691
I would have said nice Quattro cosplay.
>>9586713
It was right after the last episode came out. Guess they only played the FPS ones so they assumed female Marcus
>>9586701
>tfw you will never have a nougami neuro cosplay group
To be fair I probably only wouldve recognized your Sai with a red cube
>>9585654
Everytime I wear my Arcade Sona I always get some rando dude from afar say "Miku!"
but I love Miku so it all works out,
Ive also had people who knew I was Sona say "I loooove your Miku cosplay which song is it from?" as a joke
>>9585666
Kek
This was the most recent one. I had purple hair and a psyblade and got called Kitana way too many times
This happened at PAX, a video game convention. Disappointed is an understatement.
>>9585646
this makes me sad
>>9585507
I don't know man, maybe it was the suit?
>>9585646
The sad thing is they probably thought you were doing an 'armoured' version. Sad that the trend is still a thing, and sad they couldn't recognize a classic.
Sure, it'd be great if the main pair of characters from my favorite anime ever didn't have the same color schemes and the anime that's the bane of my convention experience, but I'm honestly more bothered about the fact that the 30+ people who thought we were Alois and Luca must have thought we were a really shitty and innacurate Alois and Luca.
>>9587092
Also this
>>9587097
And this as well, because Black Butler is the spectre that haunts me and punishes my aesthetic
>>9587099
Wait, almost forgot one.
Yup, I'm gonna be salty for forever.
>>9587097
Yoooooooo Rei bae
The girl who ran up to me and asked if I was Sonic was really, really disappointed. I don't think they're that close aside from dark scarf dudes.
Had a vendor chase me down through the hall trying to sell me a Naruto headband because he thought I was 'missing' mine. Told him several times I wasn't Sakura but he was so convinced that was who I was cosplaying. I had the hammer too..
>>9587099
What was the name of the series you cosplayed from, I can't remember it and want to rewatch the ova/movie
I guess the Vocaloid characters get drawn in so many different outfits so it's kinda understandable but still
A little confession: I intentionnally call any girl cosplaying as Ann Takamaki, "anime Catwoman" just to see their reactions.
>>9585507
cant say i blame him
>>9587306
Pretty much. If you have a hair style vaguely resembling a Vocaloid character's, people will assume you're doing one of the 600,000 outfits of them.
>>9587536
Most people get jokes like this, although it's awkward when you run into a normie who has no legitimate idea what you are and thinks you have to be... well, anime Catwoman.
>>9587654
I feel like a normie would just think "red catwoman"
Considering I really can't stand FMA, the frustration was real
>>9586378

sure, it was babby's first cosplay, but...
>>9585540
Post Venus cosplay.
>>9587687
For some reason it seemed to happen more frequently when my friend and I were dressed up together, with her being Margaret. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's a good thing I'm wearing a helmet so nobody can see me cry.
>>9585516
Wow, I'd honestly like to see her cosplay? I didn't think someone would cosplay her since it's kinda hard with the whole space thing
>>9585646
while you still cosplay Umi twenty years later, who will remember whatever the girl on the right is two years from now?
At least they're all from the same universe?
>>9586378
I'm so sorry anon
I was once cosplaying Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite and this woman ran up to me and told me "I love your tarsus cosplay!"
I didn't say anything at the time but my Dr. Who hating ass is still mad about it to this day. Bioshock is a popular series, dammit.
>>9590973
*Tardis
Autocorrect WORK WITH ME HERE
Happened to my sister. I mean, I sort of get it, but I thought Blue Exorcist was fairly popular.
Not really complaining since Touhou is not that popular over here and there are quite a few similarities, but man...
>>9590973
Really??? Dang, that's really frustrating! I'd agree that Elizabeth would be pretty recognizable.
I don't mind the series but it's usually the fans that are the worst part of it. Just because I'm wearing blue doesn't mean I'm a police box.
Well I actually was wearing an Inori wig because that white and pink gradient looks really pretty on Yasuho, but does Inori has an outfit even close to this?? I obv styled the wig with the pigtails and purple balls, and I was wearing strong makeup with orange lipstick too.
>>9586924
I don't understand. At a gaming convention of all places too.
>>9590125
Here ya go.
>>9590960
They were either fucking with you or your cosplay was just that bad, I can't comprehend this one.
>>9591318
Yeah, I have to assume that quite a few of the "mistakes" in this thread are people fucking with cosplayers.
There was one cospalyer recently, dressed as Prince Eric, who was mistaken for Gaston by some barista when they went to get coffee. For the rest of the con, all their friends, and everyone who heard the story called them Gaston.
I actually did this to someone a few weeks ago and I'm still cringing over it.
I was up most of the night finishing off my costume and running entirely on caffeine and I saw someone who I thought was from an obscure JRPG and ran up to them in excitement.
Full on autistic babbling about how I loved the game and everything and the girl didn't say a single word to me, I only realised the day after she was from that Mystic Messenger shit.
Regret.
>>9591021
Both are some of my favorite characters and, while I recognize there's a lot of similarities, they're still very different.
Maybe they mistook you for EoE Rei ?
I mean.. I can kind of see it?
>>9585646
I feel your pain. I thought everyone knew Mononoke Hime before I cosplayed San.
This was during the whole Korra craze though.
We actually hear people say "hey look, it's a skyrim" when walking past them.
This is actually more fun than being a random OC though and when people ask us where we're from we usually tell them skyrim. I did once tell a photographer my friend was Nidalee from LoL and he took our picture together, I was Lulu and her larp outfit was just kinda similar to Nidalee's.
I tried to correct them but "Rin" sounds like "Rem" so I think they thought I was just confirming their suspicions
>>9587302
nayrt but I think it's kaze to ki no uta
>>9591372
I don't know about you, but I love it when my costumes inspire autism like that. It's only cringe if you followed the guy around after or kept going or something.
>>9592477
Pretty sure they meant Ram because of the hair.
Really wanted to see your cosplay!
>>9591303
good
>>9585586
that sounds like something that would happen to tomoko
Went to a con over the weekend, saw a Cloud cosplayer who wasnt wearing a wig and had short black hair and I thought it was Guts from Berserk. I even yelled out "Guts!" when he walked by.
>>9592735
Maybe he was Zack, then your assumption weren't as bad as it could be
>>9591200
Only one ITT that genuinely pisses me off.
It was in D/P's day too. Still don't understand, none of the elements are the same, except for stripes.
Too lazy to look up pictures but yeah.
Doing tokusatsu cosplays is suffering
I had a lot of mom's taking pictures with me and their kids and I was like uh-.. I had a few links run up to me from behind yelling Zelda and when I would turn around they'd get mad/upset.
I cut my bangs like 1 cm too short and i was suddenly "the blue-haired girl from P3"
I actually don't know how this happened (on multiple occasions as well).
>>9594194
but their hair colors are different shades, and how can they confuse best girl for worst girl in 3?!
>>9594291
I literally had a reindeer Kanji with me too, I don't get it
>>9593852
were you wearing an orange parka under a Zelda costume?
>>9587099

>>9585540
Isn't Indiana Jones kind of like everybody's dad though? The hat, the shlubby clothes, these unbelievable adventures and romances with women that he rambles on incoherently about when he's drunk...
>>9594321
That I was, with a blonde wig atop of the orange parka. even had a bow.
>>9594331
speak for yourself, anon. indiana jones didn't ruin my family
I wore a legitimate Japanese highschool uniform (not cosplay) to a con once and I had guesses all over the place.
>>9592622
But he's pretty much cosplaying Sailor Moon in that one
>>9594393
I did once too. I have never had so many photos taken of me, even in cosplay.
>>9593852
>I had a few links run up to me from behind yelling Zelda and when I would turn around they'd get mad/upset.
don't worry anon, you're doing it right
>>9594393
My husband wore camo pants and a white shirt to a con and people kept thinking he was from gundam or full metal panic.
Since he doesn't cosplay it really confused him
i was dressed as San from Princess Mononoke and all these kids thought i was some naruto thing ; - ;
>>9591303
Pretty bloody good, sad the paint at the neck rubbed off but forgiven
>>9594526
She was upset too, but its really hard to keep paint there. In other pics she tucked her wig around the front and that disguised it some.
The nerve of some people.
>>9587676
Why? They don't even have the same hair color.
>>9592855
This girl ran up to me like "YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY. THE RWBY SHOOT IS THIS WAY!" and I just stared at her blankly.

>>9594980
It was the first thing I was ever addressed as during my first outing.
>>9594990
I've done her for... four years now. I started carrying a Teddie doll with me and tried to stick with other Persona cosplayers lol.
I'm finally gonna try to do one of her other outfits like the DAN idol one or her Detective Loveline one. I've wanted to do all her outfits but I could never think of how to do the mirror wand.
>>9594448
i just felt bad for kids. moms would come up to me and ask me to let their kid sit in my lap for a picture with a 'princess' and i was like uhh..sure?
Only two people thought this but meh.
Celes Chere FFVI: Hannah Montana (by 3 seperate people at one convention within a span of 20 minutes)
Rinoa: Yugioh Duelist because of her weapon.
Prompto: Cloud, but that's a given. Blonde and spikey hair. Whatever.
Hannah Montana was the best/worst though.
>>9585754
>Figma Sweet Snake collection
uhm, anon, i don't believe you know what a figma is .
Cosplayed Zack, was only recognized as Cloud. It was before Last Order was announced, so it didn't particularly bother me, it just took some convoluted explanation of an obscure plot when people asked why I chose to cosplay Cloud with black hair.
Makes sense, was in New Orleans and was around a bunch of old black folks when i was at the hotel I was staying at. I'm gonna have fun with this and just blast Prince songs around at the next convention.
>>9594757
It was the red cape and mechanical arm. And yeah, that threw me too since I had short black hair and not a damn blonde ponytail.
>>9595245
What the fuck kind of con were you at
Just happened today at Otakon. Most people knew I was Murdoc, and I even had his bass on me, but every now and again, people would run up to me asking if I was Marceline or Beast Boy.
>>9592735
Oh fuck, this happened to me too. I was at one of my first few cons back in 2010ish and had just finished reading up to the latest chapter then.
I just totally sperged out at that poor FF cosplayer who had no idea who Guts was. I cringe every time I think back to that particular con.
>>9595245
Having your Josuke cosplay mistaken for Prince is a good sign.
>>9587238
>I had the hammer too...
so how many times did you hit him?
>>9594688
>hey snake! can I get a picture?
>sure, but only if you be a little more specific
I know its both grey/silver hair and police outfits but yeah
>>9595167
That's actually impressive, Fate/Zero is really popular and I would expect Galaxy Express to be much more obscure among your average weeb. It's even more surprising that the people who have watched it made the mixup, you'd think they'd be well versed enough in annie mays to recognize a much more popular character.
>>9591021
I know a guy who often mistooks Rei cosplayers for Cirno and every time he's like FUCK NO I WAS WRONG AGAIN
>>9595167 #
Oh and Katya. It was a hotel staffer who looked relieved to finally recognize something among all the crazy costumes. I just ran with it and told hum was right I was just wearing a coat because it was January
>>9595167
Be more impressed that more than 2 people know about Galaxy Express 999
>>9585654
I love both and I get that they're kinda similar but it still irritates me. Miku doesn't have a string instrument like ever for one, also majority of the time Miku's hair is even in the songs referred to as green, while Sona's is clearly a slightly cooler shade of blue (at least in the newer sploosh). But that just my acoustisism talking, and maybe because I know both, enough to actually care about the difference.
Honestly, what do i do?
>>9593852
This also happened to me when I cosplayed Princess Kenny hahaha
Was Nidalee, someone came at me and said "Heeey far cry primal!"
>>9586701
You can't really fault this one. They're indistinguishable
>>9596375
It is crazy, but sure it's cute seeing little kids faces light up.
I will never understand
It was only one person, but I did a last-minute gijinka cosplay of Reese from ACNL. I had a pink collared shirt, jeans, and quickly sewed up an apron and had a pink wig and shitty white ears. I would say that really the primary distinguishing thing about the cosplay was the red apron. I did get recognized as Reese for the most part, but this meek girl came up to me very excited and asked if I was Lucy from Elfen Lied. I'm not really familiar with that anime so I'm not sure if the girl wears an outfit similar to the one I was wearing or what but I'm not quite sure how I got confused. Even my lackluster gijinka definitely didn't look like any of the images on google that I see of this character? I guess it was the pink wig and white ears that confused her?
This was one reason why I stopped wearing mechadendrites with my cosplay.
I mean idk what I expected but I got tired of being called houdini after the 6th time.
>>9594935
This makes me weep because barely anyone knows ZE. I cosplayed Clover and got "Teto" a lot.
>>9587238
To be fair, they're practically the same character.
I'm surprised we're this far in and nobody has had Drow Ranger get confused for Ashe, or vice versa.
>>9594688
To be fair, Solid hasn't been in a game in a fucking decade. It's pretty much not his series anymore.
>>9596186
constantly have your thumbs in your pants.
I mean I get it but bleh.
>>9598054
oof, yeah. Even knowing the character I still might have made that mistake. Simply because of how rare one cosplay is and how common the other is.
>>9598054
I doubt most of the people who watched mememe remember anyone except the blue haired boob girls
too be fair I was partly at fault for cosplaying this right after the anime came out.
This happened to my friend and it was so funny
>>9597474
Not like they were wrong
>>9598111
Wow, i love the design of Raidou, can post your cosplay anon?
Not even a joke. Someone literally asked if I was cosplaying the girl from lazy town. He wasn't that familiar with a lot of anime tho so I understand him, but I still thought it was kind of funny.
i'm curious how many people here have gotten their cosplays guessed wrong because they're actually that bad
At a con this past weekend I had at least 10 people think I was cosplaying Gravity Falls. At least the people who did recognize me were overjoyed
>>9592710
I thought so too, but then the corrected me when I said "Do you mean Ram?".
I got the impression that he was just a normie who didn't know much about either series so I just let it slide.
Also pic related is my cosplay! I tried to base the dress off of the ones in the OVA but it ended up not mattering too much since even most of the people who knew what I was from didn't watch that episode.(´;ω;`)
>>9596186

Yeah, or just a Jawa
>>9598258

>>9585666
Oh man when I was at anime midwest I saw a guy cosplaying this and thought he was from Knights of the Holy Grail and got super excited and took a picture with him. As I left, I yelled "Ni!" at him and he looked really confused and I didn't understand why until later when I realized he was cosplaying from Dark Souls. I felt like such an idiot. Anime Midwest Dark Souls cosplayer, if you're reading this, I'm sorry.
to be fair this was on halloween in highschool and not during a con so im not gonna blame normies/semi normies not wearing but i thought eva was popular and i had everything down to a t. styled orange wig with red hair clips to the same skirt and everything. only difference was that i didn't want to make the blouse so i used a normal white blouse from the store.
maybe i should have chosen a different type of blue for the skirt
>>9598485
not knowing* oops sorry
Went as Takao from Kancolle, but was mistaken for Noel Vermillion from BlazBlue multiple times. The con was sort of a normie video game con.... but the hair color isn't even close???
>>9598503
it's near impossible to mistake kancolle for anything if the cosplayer actually puts together the rigging
>>9598505
You know there are people who still don't know what Kancolle is, right?
>>9597503
Oh god, I'm sorry to hear that, their hair isn't even that similar.
That reminds me, when I did VLR Clover I got the expected "Pebbles" a couple times.
>>9598269

I can't even be mad at folks for this. At least they are from the same evolution line.
>>9598615
Zatanna.
>>9597474
My question is... Instead of doing a gender-bent Zatanna, why didn't you just do Zatara instead?
I suppose that's the type of cosplay that's best worn at comic cons and with at least another person for the sake of recognition, lest you be confused for a generic magician.
5 times out of 10, lots of people still knew what I was though
>>9598644
>instead of doing a gender-bent Zatanna, why didn't you just do Zatara instead?
Haha people asked me this, but the reason is I don't care about Zatara or have the same attachment to him as Zatanna so I wouldn't have had as much fun/been as into it.
>>9598712
Fair enough.

>>9591372
I made a mistake like 2-3 years ago and it still makes me cringe myself to sleep. I saw someone cosplaying a Dr. Who companion, but had only recently began marathoning the newer seasons so I still had trouble remembering character names sometimes. Opened my mouth and said "Are you... (fuck, which one was it?) ...Rose?"
The correct answer was Martha. I took a 50/50 gamble with the only names that came to mind and lost.
worst part is that I was walking around with a timeskip!Simon too...
>>9599147
you are cute
To be fair, I suppose Gandalf and Merlin are the most well known wizards.
As someone who cosplays obscure characters on the regular, I knew I was in for getting my twin-tailed blonde goth girl confused for far more well-known twin-tailed blonde goth girls OR folks just having no idea at all.
That being said, those guesses were pretty bad lmao.
>>9586466
What? Have you seen both of those shows?

Courtesy of people at a casino in AC.
Happened first at a smaller con once, then a couple times when I wore her again at SDCC. Always some old guy. Still pretty funny though.
One day I was wearing just a skirt and a sweater, and some Homestucks came up to me and asked if I was Dave Strider. My friends still make fun of me to this day

Whenever I cosplay him I also wear a contractor cap with some sort of autistic /pol/ patch, since those are the only people who really care about the character.
>>9598269
Should just cosplay Korbo. Or a better 2hu awoo.
SDCC 2010 I think?
But the dude was SUPER hype so I just went with it.
People also kept calling me Black Adam but that one was expected.
I am not tiny like Eren, have a face like Bertholdt and hair color and haircut and even the right shirt for Bertholdt but all people think I am Eren. Why?!
This thread is really hilarious!
Please post more images.

How the fuck does someone mistake joseph as goofy
>>9585739
No idea who either of those characters are, one on the left looks like chibi Daniel Jackson to me
>>9603870
I got something similar when I cosplayed pic related
"Are you from Final Fantasy?"
Like.. ok.
>>9600773
>Big hat logan
holy shit I always wanted to see a cosplay of this, you HAVE to post pictures.
>"Hey, can I get a picture, you're my second favorite character!"
>"Aw, thanks, sure--"
>"My favorite character raped you!"
I have no idea how that photo turned out but at least he had the grace to look mortified when I asked who he thought I was.
>>9604266
Because you cosplay a garbage show that has no unique setting for it's characters except for one bitch with a scarf
I can actually understand some of these mistakes. Even if you have seen the character millions of times you might not remember his/her outfit well, even less if you have no interest in the character and it's been a long time you last seen them. Some of the mistakes look really similar so if you don't know the series, you just assume it's from the one you know. Drawing style is one that gives out where the characters come from, but when it's done in 3D you can't really tell.
But go for it Anons, this is a good thread.
>>9585507
It was my very first cosplay.
It was TERRIBLE.
A friend of mine was cosplaying Taako from The Adventure Zone and an artist asked him if he was "really gay Gandalf". It's my favorite wrong guess so far.
Polite sage for no image.
>>9597333
I feel you.
Granted, it was probably a joke but someone pointed to my wig and was like "haha reverse Shiro"
>>9598602
can't even be mad, the uniform is almost exactly the same
More people thought I was ash then clem.
Bonus:
>wear the hat out in public with my normalfag clothes because why not
>strangers tell me "nice ash ketchum hat"
??
?????

Well, considering that Roman Torchwick's design is based entirely off Alex from A Clockwork Orange, you can't really blame people...???
Though, Roman does have bright fucking orange hair.

While I totally get you, I would cut off my leg to see someone cosplay Zachary Zatara and now I'm just dissapointed
>inb4 do it yourself
I'm a lolita who's garbage at cosplay. You don't want me crossplay-ing
>>9591303
That's fantastic
On mobile, so no pics.
But my half arsed Travis Touchdown keeps on being called starlord.
Makes me a little sad.
Can't contribute directly with my own complaint but I took a photo of a girl who I thought was dressed as Annie Lennox but later saw her post that she was David Bowie. Glad I hadn't said anything directly at the time!
Same con but my friend asked for a photo of a Solaire from Dark Souls and he warily asked, "...Monty Python?" and she confirmed that, no, she knew he was Solaire and not the black knight and he perked right up and struck a pose for her. Apparently it'd been a problem all day. Cute.

Different anon but I love this and I love you!
>>9605973
I mean, they're not wrong...
Ok, granted I was cosplaying an obscure character... But both of these happened at a meetup for the series I was cosplaying. I also got a lot of "who are you supposed to be". Come on guys!
Years ago at AB, a guy took my photo and was like "You're Kasumi from Dead or Alive, right?" and I was just like "No, I'm Katara ... I'm wearing pants... "
>>9593852
It's always awkward when tiny children want pictures with you when your series is very much not child appropriate. I had so many moms asking what I was from when their under-four's wanted a picture with Nui Harime.
I remember this Ash cosplayer excitedly came up asking for a picture with me. He then looked at me and went "Oh you have a guitar. Weird" before he walked off. That's when I realized he thought I was nurse Joy.

Dude, are you a skeleton?

She actually looks like she could've appeared in the Space command cartoon, so I don't blame them

VOTE SAXON
We got complimented on our doctor and tardis cosplays. Booker had a shotgun prop too and was covered in fake blood. Doesn't really give off a doctor-vibe if you ask me.

Thank you for getting it. ;~;

i had a giant pointy hat, an umbrella, and a lilac skirt. how the fuck does that translate to legolas.

>miku's hair is seen as green in japan
This is more a confusion of the concept of the colors green and blue between the west and Japan. To them green and blue, especially lighter aqua blues, can be somewhat interchangeable.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ao_(color)
For example, in Hibike Euphonium the character Sapphire's kanji is 緑輝 or "brilliant green" and her color scheme is green and blue-green even though this is definitely the color westerner's would picture for a sapphire.
>>9604266
A lot of people don't cosplay by face/body type, so they probably just assumed you were the most popular character. Their outfits are very similar and people probably didn't notice the shirts, and their somewhat similar too.
>>9610426
that's what i meant haha, thank you for explaining it better ^^
>>9605113
Please post a picture of it, please.
>>9610433
>A lot of people don't cosplay by face/body type
This is something I don't like. It looks so much better when people choose a character who fit good to the their appearance/look. I do it always and never cosplay something I have not the appearance and body.
This happened more than once...
>>9608225
my heart
I heard this way too often. Also people who claim to play the game and are certain I'm Maiev. I actually had a conversation with two guys about this this morning... until I posted the source material.
>>9612208
Here's the source material for Cordana Felsong. It's not even close to Maiev.. and they have scenes together too.
>do you even WoW Bro?
>>9607009
if that is you in your Commissar costume?
I guess you should remove the badges on it, they look like they are from modern times, not the far future
or add at least an imperial aquila
Cosplayed my nature monk from D&D, shittily photoshopped picture to give you an idea, shaolin-esque monk with green robes.
Everybody thought I was an earthbender from Avatar. Can't really blame them though.
>>9607785
>when tiny children want pictures with you when your series is very much not child appropriate.
Basically this but even worse. The amount of little kids who run up wanting a picture with the "pretty angel" is heartwarming but if only they knew. Even worse when anyone asks what its from and you need to improvise.
First cosplay I ever did, the wig was too short, so I guess why they thought it was Gray.
>>9612406

>>9594688

Kind of. Cordana Felsong betrayed the wardens, took in the fel and hung out with Gul'dan. No biggie. Maiev didn't really like that.

well this isn't really a cosplay as much since it was a fancy dress event thing but because i was wearing a pink wig and being black some people assumed i was nicki minaj
