Most of my classic dresses are from IW, but lately I have fallen in love with Mary Magdalene's and Victorian Maiden's respective aesthetics. My folder is lacking in coords from both brands, so I decided to start a thread with what I have so others can post what they have and get inspired too.
A lot of my coord file names are the dress names but posting what they are anyway.

>>9577242
Yess, I absolutely love Victorian Maiden's older ads when they had a more gothic direction. I so rarely see people use VM for oldschool as well, I guess because their actual dresses haven't changed as much as the styling so people don't always realise they've got older pieces. I'm an oldschoolfag and have a ton of ancient VM but I think I've literally never seen anyone post Victorian Maiden oldschool coords.

VM is truly hard to find. I just went scouring for it.
>>9577220
And it's the courdory version too...I'm a sucker for unique fabric choices.
That being said,>>9577232 looks great but that choice in tights is horrible. I feel like MM/VM looks best with understated stockings because the dresses are usually more detail-oriented than print oriented.
>>9577248
OT but I stg lolibrary has shit the bed, it never saves my searches and there's no browse function anymore, any story on what actually happened? It somehow got worse, and they still have repeats on dresses. If it's still broken by the time I get my grad degree/get a moment to breathe from doing ACTUAL CS research, I'm fixing it myself.
On topic I really wish there was more greens, I have pic related and love the color, but the cut of the dress is...interesting.

MM & VM Classic is best classic, don't know how some could ever choose tacky af JetJ over these two.
>>9584866
You know, I felt that way for a long time, but JetJ was a GoH at a convention I went to last year and seeing all their dresses in person and watching a new collection go down the runway with intended styling and all, I just suddenly "got it" so to speak. The aesthetic doesn't really translate to online as well.
>>9585082
I feel like VM/MM is certainly more wearable for everyday, where JetJ is far more ott/opulent. While you can MM/VM look ott with the right styling, you can't successfully tone down JetJ without making it look tacky. They kinda borrow more inspiration from modern western high fashion. It makes for something interesting done right, but not really my personal taste
I'm not a lolita, but MM makes me want to get into the fashion so bad.
>>9585116
I'm currently wearing an IW blouse under a sweater for work attire.
Innocent World is a mixed bag, It mostly swings sweet, but it has nice pieces for classic when corded correctly. I use it mainly for blouses (yay being busty), but it's a solid place to go for basics.
>>9585109
Just a warning, MM/VM runs a little bit smaller than most other lolita brands. Especially MM.
>>9585116
IW has a lot of cheap solid jsks I like to pick up on sale, as well as headpieces and OTKs since they're quite long and affordable. IW is like the Target of Classic Lolita.
>>9585116
IW is a lot more cutesy compared to the other classic brands, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they're "sweet-classic". Most of what they release are still classic, though some of their pieces like Lotta or Rabbit Letter are sweet in pretty much everything apart from the brand that released them and (to a lesser extent) colour palette.
>>9585133
>Comparing any glorious burando to Target.
That's Bodyline's department.
>>9585126
No they don't. VM/MM's sizing, shirred and unshirred, are comparable to Baby's and IW's medium. The only difference is that they don't release items with shirring nearly as often as the other brands.
>>9585141
True. I was talking in terms of largest possible size that it can fit
I was so confused the first time I received a dress with shirring.
There's definitely a quality jump though on main pieces.
>>9585178
Did I get a bad batch or something? I have a couple of old VM pieces that are nice, same as my other normal oldschool stuff, but I have one of their sailor releases from the past few years and it's probably one of the crappiest out of all my Japanese burando pieces (comparing to old and modern Baby, modern AatP and AP and old IW). The construction is fine but the material it's made out of wrinkles so fucking easily and is almost impossible to iron or even to steam. All except like two of my Taobao pieces are made of less wrinkle-prone cotton. I'm the second owner (bought from Japan) and it seems to have got some permanently creases in parts from being folded in storage for a long time/ironed on too high a temp by the last owner that I've never been able to get out. It wrinkles just on the hanger and even when I steam it I can't get it to look nice and stay nice. Also, you know those horizontal wrinkles dresses get on the lower part of the bodice when they're too small for the person wearing them or too boxy a cut? It has those too and they won't iron out, and I can't see how someone could have ironed them in so it must have got them just by being worn by someone it fit awkwardly, even though there are no signs of stress on the seams. A button came off as well but I've had that from all brands.
It's so fucking stressful spending an hour ironing it every time I want to wear it and still having it look bad that wanted to sell it since I've got it, even though I love the design.
>>9585141
Nah VM and MM are smaller than any of the brands overall. MM is the only brand I have problems fitting into sometimes since I'm taller. Compare measurements to Baby, AP and Meta and theres no question with the vast majority of pieces they're on the smaller side. Any other brand. even my IW in M I'm swimming in.
>>9585458
I'm 178-88-68 and my VM and MM don't fit me any differently than my Baby or IW. Can't speak to AP and Meta because I don't own any of them, but from my experience their unshirred sizing has hovered around the 90-70 mark like the rest of the main brands. The one main difference I can think of in terms of sizing is that neither brands seem to have ever done full back shirring.
Also in last few years VM has been releasing a lot more "free size" dresses like the Frill Collar Blouse OP that they have on their site right now. I had a friend whose bust was in the low-100's and she fit into Royal Lacey Long OP without any issue.
>>9585505
>I'm 178-88-68
What are these measurements????
>>9585520
Hopefully height-bust-waist
>>9585522
I am fucking terrified. I hope so.
>>9585458
That's super weird, MM fits me better than Baby and AP and I'm hella tall. If we wanna talk about tiny fucking burando, MMM is the smallest of them all.

Also, pictures for ants but here's a snap from Melt containing MM and VM.
Seems like IW and VM didn't pay for any more advertising in the magazine than just flats of a few items of clothes, and MM weren't in there at all. There were no on-model pictures of any of the classic brands except Triple Fortune and AatP.

Is it French marine?
The quality seems great to me, just ironing with those pleats is a pain.

>>9585458
I'm tall, but basically I love as a beanpole before puberty and now I'm a beanpole with a sizeable bust/hips, so O just have to give everything hook &eye reinforcements.
I got a royal marine from CC that's stupidly small in the bust, which is weird for VM. I just took it out a bit today, and it's much nicer
>>9587989
Nah, it's British Marine, although I think the pleats are a big part of the problem.
>>9587997
Ahh I...honestly didn't like the British marine release so I didn't go for it. I tend to like the winter releases more despite being a slut for sailor releases, which makes my wardrobe a little bit unbalanced but I'm working on it! They've also been going a little earlier historically than I'm a fan of...
