What you all working on and looking forward to, Canada?

ConBravo plans? Otakuthon?
Does anyone still give a shit about FanExpo?
>>
Conbravo in t-minus 11 days and still waiting on some last supplies in the mail, kill me now. Not committing to finishing any Friday cosplans until I know I can get my other ones all done in time.
On the bright side, schedule drops tomorrow!

>Does anyone still give a shit about FanExpo?

Don't get me wrong, I still hate how money grubbing, overpriced and corporate Fan Expo is but it's still a better run con than AN. Especially considering AN's recent hotel fiasco. Also Fan Expo definitely has more relevant guests. I'm especially excited to see the creators and actor for Rick and Morty.

hotel fiasco? I've been out of the loop for a bit, what happened?
>>
Con Bravo plans: Trafalgar Law, Walter White, Green Arrow, Genderbent D.Va (highschool version), Alt version of Ash Ketchum
>>
Hopefully will have Lich King done for FanExpo, is there usually a meetup? May come check it out, I'm going alone so
>>
>>9565042
Justin Trudeau was at the Stampede in Calgary, I'm wondering if he'll attend any cons?
He seems to like to appear in public and act like he's just a regular person and not fabulously independently wealthy.
>>
>>9565166
I dont know who you are that can simultaneously pull off Walter White and D.Va but if you can then damn that's quite a range

AN advertised that hotels would open in September 1st, however the Delta (aka International Plaza) was leaked early last week. About half the rooms were filled, before it was closed. This caused attendees to start scrambling booking at other hotels, as they figured they wouldn't be able to get into the Delta. Whether this whole incident was caused by miscommunication between the hotel and AN, or AN dropping the ball is unclear. Though it's more than likely AN dropping the ball desu.

Also the way they've been handling the situation has been less than stellar to say the least. None of the higher ups are commenting, and any updates coming forward are only after being strong armed by attendees.

Green Arrow, Walter, Law, Ash than D.Va cuz ive been growing abeard for the past few months just to shave it off slowly for those cosplays lol
And not aiming for one to one cosplays, still new just enjoy dressing up and having fun
>>
>>9565042
>Does anyone still give a shit about FanExpo?

Sadly yes. Though I'm still massively irritated over how they handle their prop policies. Vague page that tells me literally nothing, and won't even answer if certain materials are okay or not through email.

I just wanted to know if any wood props were allowed and what I basically got back was "idk show up and find out". Literally "buy our tickets, then we'll see :)".
>>
thinking of heading to AN in 2018. Seems like it's just a disorganized mess with few guests. Still worth visiting?
>>
>>9565658
it is and yes definitely
>>
>>9565174
Lol I don't know why the fuck he went, Calgary hates him. Anyways I doubt he'd go.
>>
>>9565760
It's really starting to come across like he and his wife have a fetish for photobombing famous televised national events.
>>
>>9565782
Apparently he's going to the Halifax pride parade despite not doing much for LGBTQ rights legislation-wise. It's like he's looking for televised asspats.
>>
>>9565782
>PM of a country
>attend major events in country you are PM of
>"fetish for photobombing"
Ok I'm American but this seems kind of like a weird take on it. Is it frowned upon in Canada for politicians to attend events without making a big to-do over it?
>>
>>9565885
nah, most people are cool with his photo events. Like, they realise it's for publicity but he's the PM so why wouldn't/shouldn't he go.

Cosplay? Parties? Game Shows? Yes.
Guests? Panels? Fuck no.

Doing last minute prep for ConBravo!
Just got my artist alley table number today. I'll offer Toronto seagull pins again if anyone still doesn't have one.

I also have a panel at CB! called "Sh*t Trivia for Sh*t Prizes" On Saturday at 9pm in Panel room B.
Answer dumb questions that may not have answers for the worst prizes I could find. It's my first time running this based on a friend from the states roughly describing her version of the panel to me so bear with me if you guys attend it.

otakuthon thread when
>>
>>9566953
It's such a shit con though. I'm so disappointed every time someone convinces me to go just to have fun/not take it too seriously and still I find it's poorly run and boring.

The first year I went I actually bought the weekend passes because gulls were highly recommending it and said it was one of the best in the country which basically ruined anime cons for me.

I'm still on the fence about throwing my money at Anime North but I know I'll end up doing so just because I want a chance at enjoying a decent anime con.
>>
>>9566481
tfw no friends to go and party with. Sounds like an interesting time though, I'll probably check it out for a day or two.
>>
>>9567009
lmao if you think Otakuthon is a shit con, boy are you in for a surprise at AN
>>
>>9567077
Let them go. It will be a bit of an eye-opener.

Otakuthon has its flaws, but it's SDCC in comparison to the nasty shitshow that AN has become.

>>
>>9567661
Otakuthon is in Montreal, almost everyone speaks English because they're forced to by tourists and the rest of Canada. Other than that, this image is accurate as fuck. Anime North blows and it's like any time they get anything right any year, they get way more things wrong to ruin it. Then they get rid of whatever they did right the next year.
>>
>>9567919

Don't sweat it champ, what's a good way to contact you? Discord, skypu? Whatever it is, shoot me your contact info and if you got the description of your panel that'd be great too. I'll gladly give you a hand.

I was _trying_ to be a little cheeky in saying that the guest quality difference is making me willing to put the effort into brushing up my french. Because when you go to somewhere with a different language the polite thing to do is to learn a little of theirs instead of expecting people to adapt to you.

>>
>>9566476
AN staff have been shit for years, with maybe a few exceptions in my experience. They also need to start picking their volunteers better. Some are just really rude, unprofessional and make the con look bad.

>>9567051
I've been going to AN for years but yeah, if you don't have a good crowd to hang out with, it's def not worth it. 2017 is definitely my last year for ft AN. May just go for a day but that's it. I'm done.

So much salt in Vancouver this month. Complaints about ARev and hpw they want them to crash and burn. What are chances they will ghost AR when the other Japanese festivals are done? Meanwhile Arev is going sraw in more mainlanders as always. Nothing like the flaunting of wealth I say.
>>
>>9572395
is this some sort of scam? I swear this exact same post was made for AN as well with some anon asking to borrow someones pass to enter the dealer's room.

Yes, they "borrow" your pass and never return.
>>
>>9572395

Where are you seeing the salt? AR is expensive as usual, and I'm not sure if there's enough programming to make it worth it.
>>

AniRevo is an excuse for me to go to Van from AB and have some guaranteed stuff to do in the meantime. The scenery is nice although the panels have been fucking terrible the last time I went. God if anyone saw that ghost in the shell catastrophe...

She also constantly complains about how long it takes to get back *free* photos even if it's only been like a week after a con. Sure it takes like a million years to get them but damn they free the photographer is doing you a favor. Should be happy to be getting them at all.

nayrt, but reading this thread is so delicious.
She is so obsessed about reach and becoming famous... It's kind of pitiful.
"Pig face" is unwarranted but her face and nose are definitely less than fortunate... She's so insecure and needs likes and follows for validation. She pays for page ads and gets salty when she still doesn't get enough reach too...

>>
>>9572579
What salt and where is it being tossed around? In the Vancouver Cosplay Confessions page?

AR is really pushing their advertising; I was shocked to see a large ad in the skytrain station downtown, and in the newspaper last week. I don't think the ticket cost is worth it, but I missed last year's AR so maybe they've improved a bit? I really wish it could be something more, but Vancouver cons tend to all go to shit before they even get anywhere.

Also, what's up with the 'Night Con' event on Friday night? Did anyone go to last year's? It's the first I've heard of it.

Not massive for sales, but everyone is polite and fun, and the staff are organized and great. Going to give it a go next year too.
>>
>>9582569
I tabled as well and it was my best year at CB yet. It felt quieter but somehow not? Sunday was definitely my slowest day.

CB is always so much fun and it feels more community driven than any other con I table at. Artists stop by and say hi, I get asked for art trades a lot too, I talk with attendees at my table for longer than other cons. It's just a feel good weekend, 10/10 forever.

>>
>>9587848
No.
>>
>>9587848
When and where?
>>
>>9588136
Why not?

>>9588137
I was thinking on Friday during the Masquerade Ball or perhaps right after the closing ceremony but most likely during the dance.

I met her at Animethon in 2011. I think it's fitting to propose to her where we first met but if you think differently let me know. Starting to think this is too cheesy.
>>
>>9589222
Don't propose in public ever. It puts too much pressure on the other person to say yes.
>>
>>9589256
I agree with this. Do it in private after you leave the con for the evening then be loud about it the next day.
>>
>>9589222
It's definitely too cheesy. You can bring up fond memories of Animethon if that's where you first met but you'd be better off being far more subdued about it in a more private place, because otherwise the pressure is on and she'd HAVE to say yes. You WANT her to say yes of her own accord, not just because you're making a grand gesture.
>>
>>9589256
>>9589269
>>9589277
Looks like the consensus here is everyone telling me not to do it. I appreciate the honesty. I didn't realize that I might have been putting her on the spot. I guess I'll save it for a more private moment then.

Thanks everyone!
>>
>>9589485
I think it'd be fine to do so at the con, but preferably somewhere where it's more private, not in the middle of a crowded dance.

Sometimes that kinda thing works but that's only if you know the other party is interested in marriage and will say yes if you spring the question.

For anyone who's interested, we're scheduling a meetup for dinner at Bistro Camino and boardgames at Time Capsule Boardgames next Saturday August 19th, following the Cosplay Beach Gathering. We'll meet in front of the restaurant at 6pm, and wait 10-15mins for anyone interested in joining us.

If you're joining us from the Cosplay Beach Gathering, you can take the 92 Woodbine bus directly from the beaches to Woodbine station, than subway 1 stop east to Main Street Station and walk to the restaurant from there (about 5-8mins). After dinner, we'll head out for boardgames which is a 10-15min walk from the restaurant.

Are you a staff at Animethon?
>>
>>9589222
Grand gesture: honestly if you want to do something big and showy you need to be sure of two things: she would appreciate that kind of proposal AND she is guaranteed to say yes. This is the kind of thing you do when you have already had the marriage discussion and you KNOW her answer, but it hasn't been made official yet.

In which case, do not do the masquerade. Every couple does these masquerade things and it isn't special. Sometimes there is more than one proposal, which sort of ruins both of the proposals. If you want to do a grand gesture, plan something personal and get your friends (or the con) involved to make it it's own thing. The dance would be a better option.

If you are fairly sure she will say yes and want to involve the con but don't want the pressure of a grand gesture then I would aim for a private moment at the con. This could be during the dance, this could be while prepping for or after a masquerade performance, this could be just going out for dinner, or at the spot where you first met/talked/hung out. Make it sweet, make it personal. Honestly these are the proposals that make girls cry.

If you aren't 100% sure that she will say yes, it is best to not do it at the con. You don't want to have a negative reaction ruining the convention for either of you. Keep it to a private moment outside the con.

So has anyone used Surface Mail for any parcels from Japan and can tell me whether it's decently safe/trustworthy or not for shipping to Canada?

I already have Canada Post losing my parcels enough and dont want to add a ton more risk, but for some reason either my items came weighted down with rocks or FJ's shipping prices seem to have all skyrocketed. Even SAL is pretty outrageous and no cheaper than other methods since they've added a nearly $30 "export fee" for shipping items over a certain value (regardless of declaration price I think), so I'm unsure whether to bite the bullet and pay for SAL/EMS or if Surface is actually a viable option

>>9598944
DO NOT DO SURFACE. It will arrive literally half a year later. If that.

>>
>>9602514
Not really. A few have said they contact by-law last year when the whole permit thing started. As even some in the CHG filed reports as the OCC was shutdown after by-law guys came over after they received reports. So don't just say Tony is the only one who does this crap. Both sides are playing like pre-schoolers
>>
>>9602698
The point is, there's only one person who quotes multiple people on one line. I'm not even saying who. I'm just saying that it makes their identity obvious, going against the whole idea of anonymity on this board. I don't even give a shit about what's being said.
>>
>>9602698

>>9603236
Yeah. Back when Antonio was discussed a lot there was consistently an anon that'd defend him. They'd make consistent simple grammar mistakes (the same mistakes that Antonio would make on his OCC Facebook posts) It's either Antonio or someone who is on the same level as him. I think they did quote everyone on one line but I'm not sure. Definitely know what you're talking about.

Gotta love all the recent whinging (probably samefagging) "The permit is fake! Roger is a shit disturber!" and then the event happens and... everything went 100% ok. I'm so glad that the whole OCC/CHG drama is pretty much all settled and everything is as it should be. Can't remember the last time I saw an OCC cosplay picnic after they really did lie about having a permit. If this is the final grasping straws of a bully finally almost completely shut-out and ignored thank the Lord. On behalf of all of Ontario I apologize to the rest of Canada for shitting up the boards about this once again, but it seems he is finally vanquished into the shadows from whence he came.
>>
>>9605613
And I rescind this apology made by this person. As Roger isn't the total saint people here make him out to be. He also gives the community a bad name, just as much as Antonio does in my eyes. Both should just crawl into whatever holes they came out of and leave us all alone and let this community actually flourish again
>>
I have remained silent towards this for as long as I could handle. But I am done with people bullying and harassing me within this community. It has been a witch hunt from almost day 1 since I started cosplaying/conventioning and I have no idea what I did years ago to deserve such hate. But that's for another day to deal with.

As here to try and put my side of things between OCC and CHG to a rest. Whether you listen, believe or whatever else is up to you. But I will lay all of what I got on the table as I can.

Before Roger's Kariya Park event last year both me and Jax (OCC admins) tried talking with Roger online, but he just went about ignoring us or not giving two shits about what we had to say. So me and Jax went to the picnic that day to try and talk with him face to face. We and the other picnic goers waited an hour or so for anyone from CHG to show up, but when none did. We went about telling those in attendance what had occurred over the last while online and the situation of the day. Everyone that was there at that time was understanding and of what we were saying to them. Some went home or to the mall, but a large amount of them followed us over to Celebration Square(were a permit isn't needed for a gathering of this type). We waited for a few more hours(1-2) before anyone from CHG would show up. When he did he met with me and Jax with nothing but anger and un-professionalism in all forms as we told him what we had tried telling Roger and the other cosplayers that day of what we had. After that he stormed off and never really addressed the gathered cosplayers as to mine or Jax's knowledge. After a while more some of us other cosplayers headed back towards the park to go for the mall and we saw a by-law patrol car parked in front of the park. But we just went off for the mall, instead of investigating back at the park. We chilled with the few remaining cosplayers that had stuck around to the end at the square. After a while one of the picnic (TBC)
>>
>>9605826
(tbc.1) attendees told us that Roger was chilling over with another group of that days cosplayers. So Jax and I went over to try and talk with him as we did. We tried to have a professional conversation with him, but some within the group gathered would not allow us to to have a full conversation and he and his other admin refused to have a private conversation with us off to the side. After that we left them alone and went back to our groups table, before calling it a day there.

Now to our event. Yes we didn't have a written permit, as I was told by the person at Park Toronto that you must have a address within the city limits, yes I should have been more proactive and gone about officially securing such. But the person I had talked with had told me that is we followed park rules and moved along if anyone with a valid permit for that location come along. So the day of our event rules up and after some time we are greeted with a visit from Toronto By-law which had received several reports from people during the week and that day that we were running an illegal event. After I talked with them, Jax arrived and also talked with them. After which we informed all those there that the event had been cancelled and that the gathering would have to be disbanded. Several attendees did go off on there own and some didn't want things to end and remained of their own choosing at that picnic location. After some more hours we thanked those who remained for coming and apologized for the mistakes we had made and that if we ever ran an event in Toronto again we would not make this mistake again.

And since then me, Jax, some other OCC admins(who had nothing to do with the events those days) have been harassed and bullied by other members within this community and within CHG(including their admins). And have been blamed by Roger himself for causing his group problems and the community, even for his events faults. (TBC)
>>
>>9605836
(tbc.3) The original goal and it still stands to this day that OCC was to bring all those within the cosplay community (cosplayers, photographers and their friends) together for fun and safe events and places to gather. As we can no longer guarantee this for our attendees or staff we have no current plans for hosting any form of events within Ontario.

But we do wish to encourage everyone else to attend and support their local conventions, Cosplay Hangout Group, United Cosplayers Guild, other local cosplay groups, etc.

I regret that it has come this far and that it has been made such a public spectacle and if it has caused any damage to this community as a whole. And if ever Roger and other CHG admins would like to have a proper and professional meeting with myself and other OCC staff the door is always open to such on neutral grounds(convention, mall, etc). As all of us at OCC are willing to try and move past these events and just try and better the community, whether it's us, CHG, UCG or other groups. We just want the best for all within this wonderful community and for it to flourish like it never has before.

With this I have laid all I have upon the table, the door is open and olive branch now extended. Hopefully some form of an agreement can be met and we can all move past this
>>
>>9605826
Antonio, back then people hade a right to defend themselves from your interferences and annoying bullying. People just wanted to leave them alone and stay out of their affairs. It is laughable that you'd go and claim that YOU are the one who is being bullied. This whole thing started with you trying to butt your way in and take responsibility for things you have no business doing.
You've shown you can't even be trusted to take responsible for YOUR OWN events. Twice on Facebook through-out this long fable you posted public apologies trying to set the record straight as you are doing now and promised to post some kind of documents/records as proof as the crux of your argument. You never posted them and I'm guessing you assumed it'd just blow over and people would accept your false version of reality. Here you are doing it again. WE ARE ALL SICK OF TALKING ABOUT THIS. There's no need for anyone to engage in a "professional" meeting with you as you've demonstrated yourself as completely unprofessional. Just stop.
>>
>>9605918
made some typos at the beginning like Had* instead of hade (lol) but I am soo sick of talking about this I barely even care to proofread at this point
>>
>>9605918
I second a professional and neutral meeting between OCC and CHG. Despite what others here might think. I just want us all to get along and stop hating others so much
>>
>>9605918
Well seeing that people here keep bringing it up, instead of letting me, Jax, Roger and others handle this between ourselves and in a professional manner, instead of out in the public where others openly attack each side.

And yes we have faced backlash, harassing messages and texts. Despite what you might think. Both sides have acted in unprofessional manners as much as the other is.

Yes we should have let Roger and CHG handle their event that day. But it took hours for anyone from that side to even show up and they treat us very unprofessional and with anger.

Well the other side should have taken control of the situation and not stayed away from their own event for hours.
>>
>>9605918
As a CHG supporter I just wish others would let this whole thing go and we could all move on, whether we all just forget about it or both groups have a meeting together or something else.

Also I'm sorry some within this community would resort to harassing you and your group over this matter, instead of letting the main admins handle this themselves and unleash their fanatics upon others

https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/cgl/thread/8909191/#8939804

>Hi
Concerning the whole OCC CHG thing ill try to explain it a bit, summed up. CHG didnt break any bylaws at Kariya, you cant possibly get a permit for Kariya for a picnic like that. Its true that because of the type of picnic it is the city doesnt care. However it would make sence if they did decide to start including us in those laws though that might also cause other issues. Picnics are very rarely held in mississauga. OCC showed up at the picnic spreading fear and yes the people there were legitamately afraid and OCC was enjoying it.

The city was called to figure out the whole issue and to see what had really happened. The lady had said that they had no complaints and there was no official complaint made about the event other than Antonio actually being the only person to call the city to complain about the event and have it shut down. Obviousely the city denied him. Cops did in fact show up at kariya later that day, Antonio tried to use this as a way to say they were there for CHG, while he wasnt lying about cops showing up they were actually there because there were a couple of people smoking weed in the park. CHG has not had any issues in the past or predently with holding these events. It would be really nice if antonio did appologize about his actions, constant harassment and uncalled for heroics, but I doubt he ever will admit it.

Hope this clears a bit up? If you would like to im sure that any of you could call city hall and ask them about anything going on at Kariya on that date! You are all very welcome to!

While I think its important to talk about this and try to understand the situation better so as to stop spreading lies and rummors, it is over 2 weeks old and you should really stop arguing about it. Arguing wont resolve anything.
>>
>>9605942
Only 4chan seems to really care about it. Well the larger community would wish it would be over and done with.
>>
>>9605946
I also contacted city hall after the event last year and got a different story from a man. He reported that several different reports had been made about an illegal event occurring at the park. Whether city hall cared or not is not what is important anymore. By also why it took CHG admins so long to appear that day and why OCC couldn't just let them handle it.

Also fear is far from what me and my 4 other friends that had attended felt that day. We had confusion, anger, understanding and distrust towards both OCC and CHG. Little to say we have no urge to attend any groups future events.

Really hope another group that really cares(more so) for the community rises up and takes both groups places. The group we all deserve, but yet have

For the sake of others in this community who no longer give two shits about this drama, Antonio, CHG, OCC and anyone else please STFU about it. I hate that this pops up in threads way too regularly.

As a further note, who's getting ready for FanEx?
>>
>>9605957
Who's to say another group can just rise up outta nowhere? CHG seemingly took the place of Antonio's group, so this proposed new group would somehow have to take the place of Roger's group.
>>
>>9605971
Both OCC and CHG are shit. We need a none shit, dramaless and cool group. Maybe one day one as such will rise from their ashes
>>
I have never and will never attend a ConBravo due to horror stories about the founder. It's like funding another DragonCon. Misappropriation of funds, Sexual assault accusations, and filling high staff positions with people who would sleep with him.

Most people seem to love Otakuthon though, A++ would do again.

AN suffers from a few issues, the biggest being venue. The location is the only one available with enough (I mean "enough") hotel rooms that will do a con rate for out of town staff. Anything downtown Toronto will only give a convention a small discount for staffers and enough of the attendees come from out of town that this would be a potential ClusterF if they switched. And when the hotels they use get hungry, they try to screw each other over by opening bookings earlier than the others and the Con gets blamed.
>>
>>9606046
Aw, I never heard that about DragonCon, just that people loved it for a while then it totally disappeared off the radar. Got a link to more info?
>>
>>9606046
Never heard this of CB or Mark or DragonCon. Please do share?
>>
>>9605966
> As a further note, who's getting ready for FanEx?

Not really a fan of the con itself, but I'm excited to see Justin Roiland from Rick and Morty and legendary B Movie star Bruce Campbell.

Rough draft of the con schedule is out for anyone interested

I think these groups need to stop treating these events like a group of 10 close-knit friends getting together and treat them like the free-for-all 50+ person mini conventions that they are now.

How was the cosplay beach party? I heard some drama went down but I didn't get to go.

Is Fan Expo worth $125 for the weekend pass? It's so expensive.

I'm going to fan expo sunday because it's my tradition.

how to get a qt cosplayer to touch my dick tho pls respond? Am not obese or ugly just retarded
>>
>>9611530
fan expo more than a day is waste unless the panels really interest you. One day of walking around for 6 hours should be enough.

right.....

It's a political ritual. Every major (non-Bloc) leader has to flip pancakes at the Stampede as a genuflection to the western provinces

Also the MP for Calgary's downtown is Liberal so Trudeau has to pretend he likes the city
>>
>>9611805
Yeh I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Do any of them moonlight as escorts? No white piggu or pinoy goblins though
>>
A booth at fan expo has stupid anti nazi patches,

holy shit fuck off with that politcal shit
>>

Really? Fuck off. I mean I saw the anti Trump stuff in artist alley but I didn't see anything that fucking rediculous.

Oh god the AN booking shit yet again.

anyone going to the fan expo tomorrow in Toronto? Look out for me i'll be an unfashionably dressed guy with weird shoes, with my friend who is overweight and probably wearing expensive clothes.

cya there
>>
anyone attending fan expo can tell me how the con is? thinking of checking it out on sunday
>>
>>9617832
Con was pretty good. You can probably barter for deals on Sunday too which is nice.

Also did anyone here see a rem crossplay?
>>
>>9618152
This guy?
>>
>>9618723
No, a white guy with glasses. Was there all day friday
>>
>>9611530
I've been going on Sundays for the past few years. This was probably the worst year yet. Shit tier panels and I'm getting real fucking sick of seeing fat ass women in skimpy clothing. Especially fucking Harley quinn

I won't be able to get a boner again until I give my brain a bleach bath.

If the Jack Frost cosplay person is here shouts out you looked rad
>>
Just a head's up for anyone who's a fan of Rick and Morty and missed Justin Roiland's panel at Fan Expo. Someone uploaded it onto youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfuCJV3C2M8
>>
>>9615532
anon, you're either her or one of her friends because almost everyone in the toronto comm laughs at her because of how obnoxiously desperate she is to be cosfamous.
>>
>>9619877
Neither of those, and cause I know shes from my city shes not even from Tor? Chill with your vendetta.
>>
Anyone else think it's funny that Purelight changed her name YET AGAIN (for the fifth time) to get out of cam-whoring?
>>
Her shows were also so boring I could never watch for more than a couple of minutes, shes so cringe/ how does she hide that poo belly in all her pics
>>
>>9618723
qt 3.14
>>
Are there any real relevant Canadian cosplayers on patreon?

At Fan expo all the guests were US cosplayers pretty much.
>>
So, seem there is no more FrostCon.
>>
>>9624029
Seen their announcement, makes me sad as I'm going to miss seeing my friends there each winter and passing them empty months without a con
>>
Rest in pieces, FrostCon.
>>
>>9624078
there's anime shogatsu literally a week before frost con
>>
>>9624105
Hahahahaha, that con is even more of a joke. After Con-G closed up, the only other con me and my friends cared about in the winter was FrostCon. Oh well, looks like we got time for fund saving between Forest City and MTACC
>>
>>9624105
For winter cons it stands as
1- Con-G 2-FrostCon 3-Genrecon 4-Anime Shogatsu 5-Tricon
5-DTAC
>>
>>9624078 >>9624108
There's KupoCon this winter, if your into Final Fantasy
>>
>>9624108
I find that surprising, seeing as how frostcon is run by Antonio and we all know how much of a cluster fuck and shit head that guy is
>>
>>9624135
I don't care who runs or staffs a con. Just if there is more then sit around and do nothing for me and my friends. Least some of the programming and photoshoots that were at FC gave us something to do
>>
>>9624135
This past year the con was chaired by someone new. He got bumped down to just guest relations and didn't have much power and was founder only in title I heard from some friends
>>
>>9624111
Different anon and I also support these ranks for the winter cons
>>
>>9624029 >>9624094 >>9624105 >>9624135
None of the other winter cons can hold a candle to Con-G and don't think many will. But after they closed down they left some very big shoes to fill in terms of Ontario winter conventions and as some other's here have said, the one that has even come close to trying to fill the void was FrostCon. But now with it and KW Tricon gone, the winter void is opening up even more. So hopefully Kupocon, Genrecon, Anime Shogatsu and DTAC can do their best in doing so
>>
>>9624308
>>9624116
Hey, it's Mr. "Quotes everything on a single line" again.
>>
>>9624308
gfdi, opps. Sorry not used to that yet here, sorry
>>
>>9624308
-DTAC has been around for long time and hasn't done shit in making a good winter con
-Kupocon is only around for this year
-Genrecon is a joke
-Anime Shogatsu may be the only one that can fill those shoes, but even then they need to step their game up quite a bit as the jump from year 1 to 2 wasn't that big.
>>
So let me understand here.
APop is dead. Frostcon is now dead too. Unplugged is on hiatus for at least a year. ConBravo seems to be in financial trouble.
Only new con that popped up was Anime Matsuri and that wasn't so impressive. To top it off, cosplay picnics seem to be dead due to #permitgate.
Is the Toronto scene dying???
>>
>>9624696
In a sense yes. There'll always be main stays like the usual three cons at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre downtown, there'll always be Anime North too. And I'm sure a small con will pop up here or there, after all Cosplay Matsuri did just start, and Anime Shogatsu is pretty recent too.

But like... yeah, seems like the scene is definitely diminishing.
>>
>>9624741
which is a shame really. As many of you wanted Frostcon dead cause of Antonio, it was still becoming a half-decent con by third year. Just a shame they flopped after that.
>>
>>9624308
Would be nice if one of the London cons migrated to winter instead of competing for attendance during the fall.

Then again, maybe 2 hours is too much to drive to a small con for GTA peeps.
>>
>>9624695
Anime Shotgatsu can now try and fill those shoes. Now that FrostCon is gone.

>>9624696
This has been happening all over the world. Smaller or fan-run cons closing up or going onto long term hiatus', leaving just the bigger or sponsored cons standing.

>>9624786
Forest City has potential, well LCC tries to hard to be FanExpo and they are nothing above FCCC
>>
>>9624744
Yeah after Jax and Michelle took over the con chairing from Antonio it had started to make gains in how it was being run. Too bad it didn't happen sooner, would have liked to see it take off under them and what could have been
>>
>>9624695
Oh, sucks that Kupocon might only be a single year con in Toronto. But would understand if they send it to a new Canadian city each year. We have a big enough country.

>>9624741
Also Toronto Coscon is planning to start up next year, so smaller ones will always be popping up. But will be hard for them to endure against Anime North or FanExpo/MTACC/DTAC and for the Ottawa area against GAnime, Otakuthon, OCC/MCC/QCCC
>>
>>9624696
Details on CB's troubles?
>>
>>9624814
I thought they took it over after Frostcon 2015?
>>
>>9624826
I'm not too sure as I have only heard this one going around. I just heard they are in financial trouble.
>>
>>9624878
Think 2015 Antonio was just owner in title and had no real control and than in 2017 they had both power and title. Which is a good thing, they should have done it sooner
>>
>>9624881
Staff here, not that I'm aware of. We had a rough spot a few years ago from Pan-Am, but that's about it.
>>
>>9622262
Why did she even start in the first place? Her shows were very cringey and it looked like she hated it
