Aside from the crazy and(or) homeless, You will be fine. I personally prefer the trains since they're more reliable. Also some of the trains and buses can be rather dirty and stinky so be sure to wear some perfume or cologne to avoid any noxious smells ruining your commute

I usually host the hotel room myself and tell everyone to have their share of the money a month or two ahead of time. If they miss the deadline, they have 3 days to give me their share or we kick them from the room and let whoever is in our hotel room queue have their spot.

Sometimes there are serial cheapstakes who pay just for the hotel room but no badge and ask our other group members to cycle them into the con or to borrow their badges. If you don't like people doing that you can also require your hotel room mates to have their badges purchased by a certain date or they will be kicked from the room.

Usually if we kick someone from the hotel room for flaking, missed payment, or odd and uncomfortable behavior we permanently ban them from rooming with us ever again. After 3 years of trial and error we have a pretty solid group now that always pays on time and always have badges.
