socks over tights? yay or nay?

yay as long as the tights are sheer, very simply patterned and lighter in colour than the socks. Absolute nay if it's dark-coloured tights under light ankle socks, always looks awful. Or busy tights with a pattern under socks.

I think its fine if done like your pic (the long sleeves look better balanced with the covered legs) but mostly I just wonder why its done in the first place. Warmth? Just aesthetic?

aesthetic and probably to preserve the tights a little bit. wearing socks over tights can prevent holes in the toes of the tights and prevent the tights from getting worn out in that area.

Does anybody know where i can find nice lacy/textured black legwear (not the usual tacky shit) that doesn't overcharge shipping to europe?

I prefer wool over cotton. What is considered the best option for a solid black/charcoal OTK wool sock?

Anyone have any examples of classic coords without tights, especially with ankle socks? Its getting hot where I am and I'm just not feeling very inspired while looking for socks.
