I'm trying to plan my transit commute to A-Kon and it's either pay $50 on Lyft or Uber to get to the Omni, or spend 3 hours on 2 buses and 2 trains to get there.
>>
>>9479791
I have an early morning panel and I'm not even staying at a hotel. I feel your commuter pain.

I am legitimately considering asking if anyone is willing to let me stay in their hotel room for just the night before my panel at this point.
>>
>>9479844
>>9479791

Try posting in the Facebook groups to see if anyone is in your area who you could bum a ride with. Offer a few bucks for gas. Save time.
>>
>>9479926
I would pay for a whole tank of gas and it'll still be cheaper than Uber. Thanks for the tip!
>>
>>9479926
That's actually really smart. I might just do that. Thank you, anon. I swear I always forget the easiest solutions when I get stressed out like this.

I'm always worried about people not leaving on time, though. I'm in Dallas. My panel is at 11AM. I'd like to be at the con by 10AM, meaning my ride would have to pick me up at around 8:30AM.
>>
>>9479940
What day is your panel, anon?
>>
>>9480044
It's on Friday. I (thankfully) have a way to get to the con every other day.
>>
>>9479784
anybody go to comicpalooza too?
>>
>>9480057
I wanted to but they started scheduling it over my finals. Guns Up! It is usually pretty good.
>>
>>9480054

As long as you have time to get your badge too. Always have to factor that in.
>>
>>9480149
That won't be an issue. I'm getting my badge on Thursday, and there's never a line for panelist badges. You just go pick it up from programming.

Greatest condolences to morning panel anon, I was working at AM and had to do a bit of a similar situation. Hope it works out for you!

I was going to go to Comicpalooza and ended up being told I had to leave my home by Sunday, and was told Friday morning. While being driven across town multiple times I groaned at all the "COMICPALOOZA NEXT EXIT" signs.

Hope everyone had fun though! Anyone wanna share experiences? I'm dying to hear about it.

the con was great. got meet an author i wanted to see.
videogame area was pretty cool with the vr stuff.
the cosplay contest was a joke. the awards were all over the place.
a skit won best in show and it wasnt even that good. the dancing jack skelington shouldve won.
also the judges award was a brown baggie filled with: 3 autographed postcard photos of the judges, candy, a wristband, and cereal in a baggie. last year it was a medal.
>>
>>9480736
Please tell me you're joking about the award
>>
>>9480736
Holy shit that judges award is abysmal.
I agree that the con was great though. The jack skellington put on a way better show than the hogwarts group.
I felt bad though because one of the girls from the supernatural skit was having a crying fit in the bathroom during the contest since they forgot a line on stage.

Tenative Akon lineup. It's waifucon for me and a majority of these I haven't worn out to a con yet. Anyone else have their lineup yet?

Nothing is really set in stone, but Tiki's for Saturday for an Awakening group, and if I don't get her done in time, I'll bring Severa. Is anyone going to any meetups? I'm not planning to go to any since a couple are run by drama whores.

>some girl is gonna be in the same FE group as me
>hosting FE meetup at the same time
>>
>>9481692
No definite lineup yet, but I'm definitely doing Dancer Nico (probably on Thursday) and if we manage to get our cosplays done in time, I'll be part of a small Boku no Hero Academia cosplay group.

Not really planning on going to any meetups at this point, but we'll see.

These are my "pretty sures" for the con, which is becoming kinda last-minute. Not sure what days I'll do each, other than doing Kiryu on Friday for certain.

I might bring my GSNK cosplay as well, but it depends on how much ironing I end up feeling like doing that weekend. I'm tempted to break out my Welkin from Valkyria Chronicles as well, but the heat will probably make me back down.

With any luck I *should* have a few Fates characters with me when I wear Subaki, but I don't know what day.
>>
>>9481692
I'll be bringing Azura but I havent seen anything about the meet up even happening. Is it on the meet schedule?

Dunno when I'm even wearing Dancer Nozomi, even if I'm wearing shit from Thursday-Monday. Most likely gonna see if anyone I know is gonna want a group. IF I do wear her on Thursday, I'll keep an eye out for you anon!

Sentai is knocking off $20 off of the price of a 4 day A-Kon pass for the next 72 hours. I know most of us here either do AA, panels, press, or ghost to get into the con, but maybe you have friends who might find this useful.
>>
getting tired of people begging for food money for a-kon on facebook. If you can't afford to bring some sandwiches and granola bars or find a nearby dollar menu, maybe don't go to an expensive con.
>>
>>9486257

ahahaha

>>
>>9486257

Yeah, what is budgeting? I've always been amazed at how people can't seem to afford to go but feel entitled to going anyway. Save up. Buy a pass super early. Heck, ask for Visa giftcards for Christmas or birthday and save those as your food money. Even when I was a teen and my dad was taking me to cons and footing the bill we never ate expensively.
>>
>>9486601
I work like $24 hours a week making $12 an hour and have to pay for college yet I still have no issue going to cons and splitting a hotel with just one other person. It's not hard to budget at all. People are just nuts with their money or feel like they have to go out to eat every single night
>>
>>9486601
>>9486608
You know these are the type of people to say they have no money then turn around and drop $300 on a figure in the dealers' room currently shelfwarming in the AmiAmi clearance section.
>>
is it weird that I just go to akon to day drink and socialize with people I knew from high school? like I don't even watch anime I just like hanging out
>>
>>9486805

I get the thrill of buying stuff at a con but unless I'm trying to hunt for older stuff or things I might have missed on a pre-order, I hardly buy from the dealer's room anymore. I pre-order everything I want so why spend more to get the items I already passed up? These kids don't even properly know how to be otaku.
>>
>>9486889
Not at all. A-Kon is exactly the con to do that at honestly. It's very casual friendly. I have a few friends who haven't really been into anime for years now and they still have fun.

>>
>>9488520
What the fuck? Who is this and why would I spend $60 to go to a con party when I could just go to literally any other con party for free? Is anyone actually going? I'm honestly offended that they even considered this.
>>
>>9488859
>>9488946

She goes by novacipher on Cosplay Amino. All I know is that she's trying to throw a party before she moves out of TX. She has a chat room set up on CA but nobody has replied.

I'm not sure how linking to Amino's site works but here's her post if you can see it:
aminoapps com/page/cosplay/5470142/last-akon
>>
Wait is she charging people $60 to get into her room party or is she just poorly informing people day passes are $60? If she's trying to charge people money to hang out with her at the convention center A-Kon can shut her down real fast.
>>
>>9489052
It's definitely to get in the party. A-Kon passes are at $90 right now. Even with Sentai Films doing everyone a solid with their last minute discount, it was still $70.
>>
>>9489065
But a day pass is $60.
I guess I just want to believe no one is that stupid.

why does Texas always get its own thread but never other states? Not trying to be shitty I am genuinely curious
>>
>>9491834
Because it requires ppl to start those threads?
'Cause usually people create con centric threads?

I've seen plenty of state threads in the past, NY, CA, AZ, LA & Florida off the top of my head. Just because there isn't any going on currently aside from the Texas one doesn't mean they don't happen. If you have one in mind you want to see you could always start it up?

The SATX comm have only two mods that actually do anything but one has been too busy planning her wedding to be active in the comm, and the other moved to New York. We also haven't had a meet since January, so I definitely think it's time to start looking for new mods. It seems like they think that they should be mods since they have been in the comm the longest, but they should step down from that position if they can't commit their time.
>>
>>9494360
They're also the ones who step up for the comm more consistently than anyone else though. No one comes to mind that would be any more dedicated or responsible (despite how passionately they may bitch and moan online).
>>
>>9481692

>>
>>9489350
Im hyped for this shit right here
>>
>>9491834
Lots of cons, and the major areas are much more spread out. Honestly the texas thread is like having a thread for another country.
>>
It's very hard to plan meet ups in SATX though. There isn't a lot to do in the city(especially that's weather friendly for Lolita outfits) and we have a lot of different "classes" people. For example broke college students can afford do to things that older people with jobs can, but older people can't get free time like students, etc.

I'd like to see us do more sister meets with Austin, but that's even harder to plan with carpooling.

I've tried planning meets(before announcing to the comm) and local businesses rarely respond to emails about group seating/rates/tickets etc. So they don't make it easy either.

Tldr, if you want a meet try to plan it yourself jfc
>>
>>9494561
We do have people that plan their own meets, and I am thankful for it, I don't think it is necessarily difficult to plan a meet though, more just difficult to get people to go! I think the main problem is like you mentioned with "classes"

There's a lot to do in this city that is indoors, but a lot of people just aren't interested in some of the options or don't/cant pay for it.

I'm still holding out for a lolita meet at an escape room one day.
>>
>>9494567
I really wish we could do an escape room, that'd be really fun! I saw that it was an option for ILD and nobody jumped for it
>>
>>9494314
Fuck. I thought SJ was going to be a better lolita con and wasted my money on tickets and a hotel already... I'm so sour now. Guess this is the only year I do SJ.
>>
>>9494603
Same. I'm coming in from out of state and I deliberately chose SJ over Akon because I thought what you did (plus SJ is cheaper), but I guess I shouldn't have expected anything lol

Can't cancel all my plans now, but I won't be coming back after this.
>>
>>9494603
>>9494607
Now I'm considering making a lolita cgl meet up/get together/possible room party just to make up for the lack of lolita programming. There are still panels and vendors I think, but it doesn't sound like much. Do you guys think this is a good idea?
>>
>>9494309

This isn't the first time I have heard this. Won't be the last. He's burned a lot of bridges over the years.

And yes he does live off the profits of the con and a large chunk of it goes to booze and drugs. But hey it's his con he can do what he wants I guess.
>>
>>9494672
That'd be great anon! I'd be excited to go, at least. A room party would be great too, but we'd have to monitor that a bit
>>
>>9494672
>>9494676
Yeah sounds good to me. It would be nice to have some lolitas to know. Now of my friends who are into lolita so far are going. I think it's just disappointing since I heard so many good things about it last year~ I'm sure lots of lolitas are going to show up and be like '???'
>>
>>9494603
>>9494607
Lol wait y'all planned to go to a con out of state for the guests without a guest even announced? Why would anyone do that...
>>
>>9494681
>I'm sure lots of lolitas are going to show up and be like '???'
Honestly that's not SJ's fault though, and it's really rubbing me the wrong way to see a lot of people trying to pass that blame. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't seen a single instance of SJ saying anything to imply that they would have lolita-specific programming this year. People have been making the intuitive leap because of previous years' programming and because some comm members are involved with con planning...but that hardly seems like enough ammunition to accuse SJ of building up expectations and then crushing them like so many people are saying. I know a lot of lolitas use the terms "lolita" and "jfashion" interchangeably but that's both wrong and also not SJ's fault.
>>
>>9494687
>>9494698
Yeeaaah, this whole thing just sounds silly and all these lolitas seem to be blowing it out of proportion.
>>
>>9494706
Sounds like a serious case of entitlement imo, especially if the con didn't hype lolita programming specifically
>>
>>9494687
Friends, mostly. I have a lot of friends in Texas.

Either way, I'm not the only one stuck in this situation so we're just trying to make the best of it. Even if SJ is awesome and I have a good time, I'm not likely to come back simply because I'd rather spend my money on more lolita-centric events.
>>
>>9494698
I think the topic needed to be addressed at some point. The info on the website implies that announcements are coming and their past fashion events seemed to indicate that things were getting progressively larger in scale. It's pretty sad that people had to find out via Facebook screenshots on /cgl/. It's almost like they were hiding or avoiding having to admit that their programming track failed.
>>
>>9494712
This, even if it's entitlement or wrongly assuming anything out of the con, I think people at least wanted some heads up that lolita wasn't even going to be in the equation. The one fashion guest that has been announced is questionable, and this isn't the first time the concern about other fashion guests has been mentioned publicly. It would've been nice to have been told something the first time, if only to help people plan better and choose other options.
>>
>>9494712
Did it fail though? There's still going to be lolita programming, they're just not going to go the "trying too hard to make an extravagant spectacle" route like Matsuri did. SJ definitely made some mistakes last year and it's more than fair for them to take the time to regroup, not all con problems can be fixed in a years' time or before the next event.
>>
>>9494726
That's not really reasonable from the con's perspective though. Do you think it's realistic for them to make some kind of publicity statement every time a programming venture changes course? There's a difference between transparency and oversharing.
>>
>>9494731
It's not realistic for a publicity statement no, but maybe a casual polite mention the first time it was asked. Ex: "SJ isn't focusing on lolita this year, but please look forward to other jfashion guests! Maybe next year." instead of "Hop on a plane somewhere else if you want this thing so bad."

Maybe the irritation is stemming from the way that was handled? Who knows. It blew up way more than it should've, and now people aren't coming back apparently. I love SJ, my comm, and my city, so this whole debacle is making me sad.
>>
Whoa whoa. I didn't say I blamed San Japan about it. I said I'm sour about the situation, but I know it's my own fault, and am sure other lolitas are going to make the same mistake. Am I not allowed to be kinda peeved about the situation? Ill still try to make the best of it, but San Japan isn't that great of a convention that I''d want to go to without that extra oomph otherwise, so I probably won't go again.
>>
This is huge entitlement. Never assume a con is doing anything until they announce it. Are you dumb? Yeah, let me spend hundreds of dollars on rooms and badges and travel because I'm just banking on them booking the people I want to see.
>>
>>9494748
You really think, with the way this blew up, that people would've accepted your example? People still would've been mad because the root of the issue right now is that some lolitas are feeling betrayed by the shift away from programming that caters to them. They would've been mad no matter what.
>>
>>9494781
Not that other girl, but the whole reason everyone is so angry, is the fact that many lolitas were only told there would be no fashion programming, by having to ask SJ(4 months away from the convention). The community received rude responses in return from their simple inquiries. Keep in mind many of these people already bought their ticket and had a hotel reserved thinking it would have similar programming to last year (Heck the San Japan website STILL has a teaparty events page from last year up, so you would think they'd be doing that again this year!)

Most people are just voicing their disappointment, but this turned into a debacle when the staff became rude to their SJ guests.

If the SJ staff announced that their would be no JP fashion guests earlier on, this issue wouldn't have blown up, and its harder to plan for other lolita events since most of them start right around the corner, so a lot of girls plans are ruined.
>>
So is Dallas the place to be for lolita in TX now?
>>
>>9494805
Wait and see what A-kon has in store
>>
>>9494803
Thank you anon, I want to marry you. You explained the situation exactly how it was.
>>
Yeah a lot of people buy con tickets/book rooms early on to save money and think it's safe to assume a convention will probably only be getting better.
>>
>>9494771
This. So much this. Only Texas lolis plans would get ruined over imaginary guests that were never announced in the first place. You should never assume because it makes an ass out of you and every other lolita.
>>
>>9494998
I'm from out-of-state and friends (at least I thought I was) with some of the fashion coordinators so I'm actually really hurt nobody announced the lolita events are being cancelled this year.
>>
>>9494986
Okay, but it's San Japan. People should know better when it's San Japan.
>>
>>9495057
Everyone on cgl says that San Japan was the best Texas con so what's your point?
>>
>>9494771
>>9494998
Adding onto >>9495004, it was known by most lolitas that the fashion coordinator for San Japan was one of the mods for the San Antonio lolita community. You guys are acting like there was no basis for another lolita guest. I believe it was safe to assume that she would have worked towards getting lolita programming since she helps run a lolita community, and also did not hint anything contradicting this until Dave outright said no.
>>
>>9495107
Your assumption might still be safe? You don't know what conversations were held. Everyone shits on Dave for being bad at his job but then still assumes he's doing a normal/good job. She is a Lolita, I would assume she wants Lolita programming like the rest of us.
>>
>>9495319
No the reason why everyone was upset is because she's been silent and then seems complacent with his decision, telling members of her comm to just get over it and that they're in the wrong for being disappointed. I understand she can't force Dave to change or anything, that's being entitled for thinking she could. However, she's also not handling PR much better than he is for how she's acting on facebook.
>>
Apparently A-kon sent the j-fashion model's their emails. I'm salty I didn't get one. I wonder who all got in?
>>
>>9495601
If you didn't get a rejection email, you can still be chosen. So far I've only seen acceptances for AP.
>>
>>9495601
Aw, that sucks. I'm sorry that you're ugly.

Joking aside, don't freak out just yet. I'm sure they're doing it like panels where only a rejection e-mail means you're rejected.
>>
>>9495662
from what one girl announced on the fashion show page that's what i thought they were doing
>>
>>9495413
>she's been silent
Holy shit the girl just got married, let her have a life!
>>
>>9495601
I know I did and two other girls I know personally also did for AP, but I'm not sure how many of us there are for that brand in total. No word on Haenuli yet. I'm expecting all emails to be sent out by Sunday though, so hopefully you get something soon anon!
>>
>>9495685
The concept of a life is clearly far beyond the realm of conception for these 3 or 4 salty bitches.
>>
>>9495689
>>9495601
The only girl I know got accepted for AP as well, I did haenuli and the general fashion and havent seen any girls talk about either so I still feel good wating.
>>
>>9495685
But there's no one else to take her place? No one else can speak out? It seems irresponsible to let one person carry the burden of fashion programming and let things fall apart when she can't do the job.
>>
>>9495720
Why didnt you volunteer anon? She doesnt run SJ you know, nor is she the only mod. She volunteered her time.
>>
>>9495720
Did anyone step up and offer to help earlier than 3 months before the con?
>>
>>9495719

I saw posts from a few girls who got accepted to general fashion show on May 25.
>>
>>9495735
Ah, well I havent gotten a rejection letter for anything yet :/ I hope they send something at least. I hate just getting silence as a rejection.
>>
>>9495685
>>9495710
But why volunteer if she was too busy getting married? Did she ever ask for help? I agree with >>9495720. It's not only the fact that there's no lolita guests, there's only one guest so far. If you can't do your job, you're still going to get criticized for it. I'm not going to give her or SJ a pass for having shitty JFashion programming because they didn't have the time. Replace her with someone who does.

I sound very bitter, I know, I don't care. Excuses should only work for free events. I would have helped out if I lived in San Antonio, but I have helped other cons before and do my best knowing there's people counting on me. In all though, it really seems like if SA lolitas want to salvage San Japan, they need to step up to the plate because it definitely fell apart this year.
>>
>>9495760
Oh my, it may be time for you to step away from the keyboard and go outside for a bit. I really dont think it has to do with time, if you actually read Dave's response, it seems like he is the one who honestly doesn't care. But this has been mentioned before, this horse is so dead.
>>
>>9495720
You seem to be confusing catering to entitled assholes with actually doing the required job. It's not the fashion heads job to make sure you aren't dumb enough to make assumptions about guests.
>>
Got accepted into the chosen coordinate showcase! Awesome!
>>
>>9495837
>tfw still havent been rejected or accepted

Im starting to get antsy, but congrats anon!
>>
>>9495815
>>9495827
All of this. The longer you guys keep beating the horse the dumber you're gonna sound. Give it a rest.
>>
>>9495827
>>9495843
Fine, I will save further criticism until they finish announcing the other fashion guests to see if they actually do their job. However, to the first anon, I'm talking about guests in general, not just lolita. They only have one fashion guest so far.
>>
>>9495863
The might not really even have it.
They'll probably just have a homestuck ball instead, or 10 doctor who panels.
>>
>>9495069
>Everyone on cgl says that San Japan was the best Texas con
Only Dave and his shills. They are all busy at alamo city this weekend trying to get more pre-registration money, so they can't reply and say its the best con despite this tiny little thing here, and that one thing there, aside from being ran by a crazy moron with anger issues thst rips everyone off, its the best con in texas.
>>
>>9495842
In the same boat anon.
>>
>>9495601
Haenuli needs more models. You might be accepted
>>
>>9495863

More on the SJ lolita subject
>>
>>9497192
>a less restrictive dress code
The dress code that had been previously in place were just the basic rules of Lolita tho.... looks like it's going to be an ita fest.
>>
So as far as the fashion show goes, should I take silence as a form of rejection yet? Or is there still a possibility today?
>>
I hate when people post that they got in. Why rub it in peoples faces?
>>
>>9497222
Why take it as that? Theyre probably just excited and want to share their excitement. Not everything is about you bitter-chan
>>
>>9497222
Because they're excited? Stop being bitter about things, anon. It's just a con fashion show.
>>
>>9497211
You will be sent a rejection email if you didn't get in. Otherwise, continue to wait it out.

>>9497192
>we want them to complement 50%
Alright, so the theme of this year's fashion is tacky. Cool.
>>
>>9497279
Alright sounds good, will do as patiently as possibly.

Also SJ is just going to shit for lolitas I guess, I cant wait so see what the dress code ends up being, and 50 dollars wasnt even too expensive when you consider what you get! This years tea party is just going to be conlitas
>>
>>9496158
It still is the best con, because they remember they're an anime convention and not a lolita convention unlike AM despite bringing top tier japanese guests.
>>
>>9497289
Ah yes, the "best" anime convention to waste money on an ASMR guest and creepypasta. Such quality.
>>
>>9497303
Oh, don't get me wrong. The guest list this year sucks besides Teddyloid but at least it's anime focused and doesn't have 50% of their guest list be cosplay/j-fashion (AM).

Those type of posts I can handle, its the fake ones I hate. Saw this yesterday and wanted to puke
>>
has there been a con at the new Akon location?

how is the convention center?
>>
>>9497306
They got Teddyloid? Didn't someone just say SJ doesn't book guests that have already been to Texas cons?
>>
>>9497342

The Hilton was the site of ANT this year.

I did a site tour a few weeks back and expect some walking. The con center itself is pretty large and has all the main events and dealer's/AA. The other hotels are split into gaming (Omni), fan panels (Sheraton), and steampunk/J-fash (Hilton). So depending on what you want to do, it's not as bad a walk. There's food in the con center and then it's not that far to Sundance Square for more options. That's gonna be less of a walk or trolley if you're at like the Hilton vs. the Sheraton. You have to cut through the water gardens to get to the con center from the Sheraton and vice versa.

The con center itself is nothing special. Pretty typical 1970s style but the arena looks nice for the concerts and other big events. Things will be much more spread out due to all the hotels and such so on the one hand you're losing the feel/ease of everything being in one location but you're hopefully getting more dispersion and a more intimate feeling for some of these smaller hotels.

Expect lots of badge checks though. Some of the hotels you won't be able to get past the first floor if you don't have a badge. Ghosting is going to be harder this year.
>>
>>9497306
I feel like Animefest, while small, is the best Anime-based con in the state. The guests are quality and programming is solid. San Japan's lack of artists and directors is disappointing. I get why they book some voice actors, but it's overkill when half of the programming is a bunch of mediocre ones.

Some of these cons refer to themselves as Japanese pop culture conventions (instead of sole Anime conventions), so auto, fashion, and other general J-culture programming makes sense, and I don't mind if they have large swaths of programming reflecting this.
>>
>>9497469
Yeah in this post >>9493868 I guess that only applies to jfashion for some weird reason.
>>
>>9497577
No it doesn't. Chantilly went to both SJ and Onicon.
>>
I know there may be A-kon jfash staff lurking here, so just in case you're prepared to say:

When can we expect to finally know if we were accepted or rejected for the fashion show? The suspense is totally killing me.
>>
>>9497715
Yeah, I'm sure staff is dumb enough to answer questions on /cgl/
>>
>>9497803
>as if staff hasn't answered questions on /cgl/ before
>>
>>9497838
They're probably not going to answer just because you asked them directly.
>>
>>9497838

Akon PR people will post to cgl. It's usually obvious because of the knowledge they seem to have that hasn't been made public.

At the very least they are watching the threads
>>
>>9494360
Because doing anything outside of the comm or planning a meet is less important maybe plan one if you have the time to complain about it? Unless you're too busy with a personal life to plan one yourself.
>>
>>9497715
why can't you just ask them yourself on facebook? they seem pretty receptive on the event's fb pages.
>>
>>9497952
Planning? Fuck that. They want to shove salt up their vags while pretending to be pretty. SATX comm members want someone else to do the work for them.
>>
So before I get desperate enough to ask on Facebook, any seagulls need an extra person for their A-Kon hotel room? I'm only interested in the main hotels (Sheraton, Hilton, Omni). Fat chance, I know, but just in case.
>>
Haenuli emails out I think
>>
>>9498089
Acceptance,rejection or both
>>
Got my rejection email last night at like 2am. Glad I was in the running until the very end I guess.
>>
>>9498561
Same here, sucks but not the end of the world, if anything this motivates me to make better coords and try to take better pictures of them for next time.

Also at least a rejection means I wont be wasting so much money on A-kon, I was only going to go if I got in anyway since I could only just afford it.
>>
>>9498801
I didn't really plan on going to A-kon unless I got accepted, either.

Someone mentioned in the Facebook group that the Omni has a policy that prohibits non-hotel guests from using the guest elevators or entering guest rooms after 10:30 PM. Some people have suggested this would be enforced via a wristband system and people checking them.

Has anyone here stayed at the Omni before? If so, what has been your experience with this? We're trying to get 6 people in a room (max occupancy is 4) and are looking at our options. If the wristbands are not unique (like Wal-Mart variety) we may just go buy extra and do it that way, or just decide on two people to get to the room before 10:30.
>>
>>9503418
No one here has stayed there because it's the first year that they are a con hotel. No one knows shit until anons get there.
>>
>>9503418
>>9503422
It's not like he's saying exclusively for the con. I've got some out of town friends who stayed for business and can check with them.
>>
>>9503433
How is that helpful? In what other situation would a venue distribute wrist bands for guests? Do you think that's some common practice when a massive event isn't happening?
>>
>>9503418

The only hotels I've ever actually seen do this thing is whatever hotel AFest is at. The Omni is gonna be stacked full of of staff and volunteers. So it's a maybe?
>>
>>9503365
>ACCA
FINALLY. I've been looking all over for good ACCA fan merch.

>>9503418
The Omni is some fancy-ass shit. They're not going to bend the rules for you. It doesn't matter if they're a con. They have a reputation, they love their reputation, and they will protect their reputation. When they say 4 to a room max, they mean it. Don't fuck yourself over by staying there if your group is 6 people. Wait for other people to do that and see if you can try it next year.
>>
>>9503437
"GOOD NIGHT’S REST POLICY
To ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all our guests, the hotel enforces a Good Night’s Rest Policy in our guest rooms. Only registered guests are permitted to enter guest room elevators or guest rooms after 10:30 p.m. All guests must be registered at check in. If a disturbance is created as a result of a party or noise from a guest room all guests in the room will be asked to leave the hotel without a refund. These guidelines are in place to ensure every guest enjoys a peaceful and pleasant stay in our hotel."

Even if they didn't distribute wristbands, this is the hotel's policy, word for word. How do you propose they would enforce such a policy, then?
>>
>>9503439
Lol, he didn't say anything about them bending the rules for him, anon. The Anatole had the same 4 person rule for rooms, and the Anatole was pretty fancy, too.
>>
>>9503451
Yeah, and at the time we didn't know about it there, and we had 5 people, I think. I was told it's pretty standard as a safety deal. Anyway, we planned to do the same bit until we heard about this policy.
>>
>>9503451
Sure, most hotels do have some sort of cap at around 4 to 5 people and yes, the Anatole was fancy, but it doesn't have the policy stated in >>9503445. Anon can do what they want. I'm not their mom. I'm just saying, don't be surprised if you get kicked out/can't get back into your room.
>>
>>9503365
do you have an online shop or anything? I'm not going to Akon but I'd love to see your stuff
>>
>>9503466
Policy is irrelevant if the factor that determines if you keep the room or not is your number of people. I agree that anon can do as he pleases, but the issue he was addressing was the additional security measure.

I highly doubt he'd get the boot for someone trying to use the elevator. They'd be turned away, the end. I'd say just keep them in the room before that time and you're golden.

>>
Went to go check out the facilities today and asked the Omni about all the wristband stuff, the goodnight policy, etc. The guy told me there is nothing happening with the wristbands, someone probably made it up. I asked about room stuffing seeing as my party has 6 people and he said they really don't care if you have like 8 people in a room, just don't make it obvious and don't be loud at night, but still come and go as you please after 10:30. The goodnight policy isn't as scary as people think and they give you polite warning beforehand. It's really only to prevent room parties and an attempt to get people to be more calm. Pretty much everyone but a handful of people are booked for the con so it's all convention goers anyway. Everything will be fine.
>>
>>9503717
I'll take what you say with a grain of salt, but I appreciate the update. Ideally, what you say is true, and it does make the most sense in my head.

Let's just see how long it takes for A-Kon to lose this venue.
>>
As a first timer accepted into the main cosplay contest... What's the general protocol for the day of the contest? Do you get in cosplay early for the prejudging, or do you show up with it if it's way early? Do you stay in cosplay until the contest and roam around, or get into it right before? Any other useful info?
>>
>>9503795
You don't necessarily have to wear it to prejudging, but it's generally encouraged. Our prejudging was the day before and we still got into it twice because costumes look best not on the hanger. And if you do decide to not wear, have pictures of your costume on you in your portfolio for reference.

Between pre-judging and contest, they don't give a shit. Change out or don't, just make sure you get to the green room at the designated time. I'd encourage having a friend backstage with you to have water and snacks. A-Kon runs a pretty tight ship, but it's still a long time.
>>
>>9503438
You mean San Japan? Animefest has never done that
>>
>>9503795
You are going to want to show up to prejudging in full costume. You will need to also be in full costume well before the stage contest and you will be kept in a back room before and during the cosplay contest.
>>
>>9503795
Every con has its own protocols but from what I'm familiar with, pre-judging is the only time that judges have to get up close and personal with your costume. By the time people are walking on stage, the winners have more or less been decided. That's why wearing your costume to pre-judging is highly encouraged. It's where the majority of judging actually happens.

AFest hotel did try wristbands once when they were still at the Hyatt. It didn't work. They moved hotels after that.
>>
>>9506585
Confirming.
The last year Afest was at the Hyatt the hotel went Nazi mode. They would only let con goers use certain elevators. They treated everyone like they were not paying to be there.

She seems pretty chill to me.

My friend says you guys order steak in Texas (in particular Southern Texas) at restaurants by using the measurement of time, instead of saying "medium rare."

So you'd say "leave it for 4."

Is this correct? I feel like I'm being bullshitted here.
>>
>>9506816
Lollll why would you believe that?
>>
>>9506818
I don't.
>>
>>9506816
That's BS. But a true fact about Texas, every other store's name starts with the word Texas. If they didn't Texans would forget where they were.
>>
>>9506816
In my 20 years living in Texas I have never heard that at the dozens of steak houses that I've eaten at. Your friend sounds retarded.

just saw this in the fb group for akon. wtf
>>
>>9506863
Its from Breath of the Wild, the new Zelda game. Its clearly still a WIP though, doesnt look awful right now
>>
>>9506863
>>9506869
Well, it's better than most of the human versions I've seen so far but it's hard to tell if it'll be less horrifying when it's done. We'll see at the con.
>>
>>9505395
Anon you haven't even been to SJ in years, have you.
>>
>>9506816
I mean try it, see how it goes.
>>
How do autographs usually go? Like, do I have to lineup way in advance? I bought a badge solely to get a particular voice actor's autograph, and I'm not even sure if I can get it within the 4 hours he'll be signing the entire weekend. Am I overthinking this? He's kind of insanely popular, too.
>>
>>9507298
Trying to get Mercer autograph? Good fucking luck. Probably best to camp the lines.
>>
>>9506694
nah i wouldnt associate her with chill. judgemental, then back pedals when called out with the excuse of autism or whatever
>>
>>9508112
Deets?
>>
>>9508112
just friended them and I don't see any posts like that
>>
>>9505395
>How are they the best con when they cancel half the panels and events last minute for 2 or 3 years now?
Where the fuck are you getting your info from?
>>
>>9508305
They had one year where a couple dozen panels canceled because they emailed the approved panelists at the last minute. They made some changes the next year which a lot less panels canceled. Vendetta-Chan wants the world to believe that they're terrible while shoving more salt up her vag.
>>
>>9507430
mercer now has critical role fans so his line will be exponentially longer
>>
>>9507430
oh cool so expect death. im assuming two hours in advance is not even enough. i want him to sign my take your heart box and its gonna suck to lug around w/o a hotel room
>>
>>9508571

Check and see when they will even allow you to line up. You may even be able to until a certain time
>>
is there gonna be shit to do at a-kon if you ghost this year? other than fuck around outside.
>>
>>9509688
We seriously don't fucking know since this is their first time in Fort Worth. You can show up to try to ghost then tell us all of your exploits. They are shitting on people in the Facebook Group if it is mentioned that you're planning to ghost.
>>
>>9509722
I just want opinions, jesus christ. I have a badge, but if my friends want to ghost, then i'd at least like to spend time with them. lots of people here seem to have all kinds of 'insider information' about how the con's gonna work apparently so it doesn't hurt to ask.

My gf will be selling prints, mostly MP100 and one Overwatch. We'll be table sharing with other artists.
>>
>>9509734
Most of the people who have 'insider information' are volunteers for the convention. They don't want people ghosting. I don't know about your friends but people who do that tend to be the biggest troublemakers.
>>
>>9509734
It's in a convention center. It's much easier to control where people can go in a convention center vs. a hotel. People who ghost will have a hard time because they likely won't be able to go anywhere in the center and the rest of the con is in 3 different hoteld. There will probably be a ton of people hanging in the water gardens if you want to see cosplayers/hang out.
>>
Does anyone have a /cgl/ meet up planned at a-kon?
>>
Ill be ghosting abit i shall sing songs of my time in the water gardens
>>
>>9509810
people who ghost tend to be broke af anyways and take up space the rest of us could be using
>>
Should I bring a print out of the email they sent that has a QR code for the badge pick up?

or can they just scan my phone screen for it
>>
>>9510633
Bring the printout just in case service is shit
>>
Anyone need a place to crash during the con? I got a place over at the omni.
>>
>>9509953
No clue anon but when the time comes I'll post up here again to see who'd like to meet up
>>
>>9511036
I've never been to an anon meetup. Is it...weird? Do we just take pics of our cosplay/coords?
>>
>>9511262
They used to be fun back in the day but now its just thirsty awkward guys not even into cosplay/lolita trying to get a cgl gf.
I recommend staying away.
>>
>>9511291
>>9511262
>>9511036
I always wanted to meet a closeted gay boy who would let me fuck there ass then cuddle. XD
>>
>>9511323

You could probably find that at the con yes
>>
So no one is up in arms that A-Kon is cutting the raves down to 2 hours then ending at 2am?
>>
>>9511528

Either people don't realize or they don't care. They have wanted to get rid of those for years.
>>
>>9511528

No, because nobody stays that fucking late except for a handful of people so settle down.
>>
>>9511522

But where would I find someone like that while at Akon. Anyone here wanna hang out during?
>>
>>9511262
I was thinking more getting together drink and hang out
>>
>>9511610

Dances rave or ball
And LGBTQ or yaoi programming probably has a few
>>
>>9511626
Cool. I'll try it out. Thanks anon. Offer still stands if anyone wants to hang. We have plenty of snacks and drinks. Also brought a laptop and connected it to the tv for some anime watching. I really want to make some new friends here. Anyone from EP here?
>>
>>9511650

>>

>>
>>9511686
