does anyone else get sort of a weird feeling from the jojo cosplay community? like I haven't had any bad experiences but it just feels sort of closed off. I've been thinking about it and I have had really good experiences at cons I've just had a harder time in the online community, I guess part of it is that I haven't been in big fandom for a while so i'm not really used to this. I'm from the east coast for the anon who was curious

My and my pal are going to make a johnny/Act 4 cosplay, with me being the Act 4 (I'm like 2 heads taller than him, I'm like 6'3)
I need tips to make a good tusk armor that doesn't look like I'm having a stroke or something, my first idea was to make a skeleton out of aluminium and over it making things like the shoulders with fiberglass to make it harder.

What do people think of doing non official color schemes? I really wanna do part 8 Kira but I'd rather avoid white and most of the happy colors look horrible on me, I'd much rather go with a dark color. Opinions?

I honestly think you could pick virtually any color for any character and no one would question it, either they'd assume it was from some chapter cover or illustration they'd never seen or they just wouldn't care because it's fully in the spirit of the series

Genderbending's honestly pretty damn lazy in my opinion, but hey I'm not going to be nasty to someone just because they do.

As for genderbending, I think it can be done nicely but it depends a lot on how you choose to do it. As with any cosplay, accuracy matters, don't be lazy and skimp on details and just throw on whatever cheap seifuku you can find with cat tights to make it kawaii or whatever (the cosplay police won't knock down your door if you do but if you care to do this right, that's the wrong way).
Keeping the character's personality in mind helps: Don't make fem Jotaro girly, that wouldn't work with who he is. Consider going for the sukeban look instead, put an effort into making your cosplay as accurate and in-character as possible otherwise and in my opinion it could look pretty cool.

And as for female Jotaro, if I do it, it'll obviously be sukeban. I'm just kinda worried that people won't recognize the character. Should I wear a hat or not? For realism, I'd prefer not to, because the hat is not part of the girls' uniform, but on the other hand...

Keep the hat, it's iconic for Jotaros look, especially since you were worried about bring recognisable.

Jojo has no canon colours, so go for it!
I personally love seeing cosplayers go for less used color choices, whether they're official artbook/cover colors or not. This is one of those fandoms where you're free to do anything.

Also, just a suggestion since this is one colorway I've considered for pt. 8 Kira myself - How about this pt. 4 Kira dark purple colorway? Not everyone will get the "reference", but it could be a fun one to do.

So what's the word on makeup in Jojo cosplay. Not the shitty attempts at cel shading. Is it stupid to want to go full out glam?
I'm planning a costume but I am of the opinion that basic crossplay makeup with crusty concealer lips would be just as shameful as the line shit.
What are some attempted looks that push a Jojo cosplay to almost InstaGlam but manages to just work overall?

Not stupid at all in my opinion, in fact I think that some characters look better with more dramatic makeup; Abbacchio, Rohan and most of the main villains (excluding Kira) immediately come to mind. If you know what you're doing and the look you have in mind suits the character (as in, don't do crazy dramatic makeup if you're cosplaying Koichi), definitely go for it.

I was advised to use a foam board and an xacto knife to recreate the appliques I made last year for my Gappy cosplay. I've never really used an xacto knife before so is there anything i should know before I draw out the shape I want?

I mean like heating up the edges and sort of smooshing them down. You could also trim the larger uneven bits off with the knife. Other than that there's not much you can do at this point.

Is cotton the best material for dyeing purple and making into a seifukum from a shirt? I hear polyester is bad for dyeing because it's stain resistant but I could follow one of the guides that ask for boiling the water. This is my dye btw.

If you're dyeing cotton get a real dye that isn't shitty Rit. Dharmatrading carries fiber reactive dyes, and the process is really easy, and won't fade/rub off on other shit/stain ever loving fuck out of your washer.

How difficult would it be to do a silver chariot cosplay? Obviously, I wouldn't be able to have the pole and cables on the lower body as nobody is that skinny, but if I were to extend the segmented piece below the breastplate to the waist I think it could look good. It might be a little over ambitious for my first cosplay, but I can put the time in if that is the issue.

It's totally doable, just depends on your capabilities. It might be a bit much for your first cosplay but you can always try and - worst case scenario - learn from your mistakes and improve when you try again. Look up armor making tutorials and maybe even check out the larp thread on here, they have discussions on armor making that might be useful to you.

Thanks, I've been looking up armor tutorials already, and from what I've seen worbla seems to be the best material for it. I've found lots of tutorials that give me an idea of how I should be doing this, especially the helm. One thing I've been wondering though is if there is anything in particular that I should wear under the armor to affix it to, or if it could just be normal clothing.

Ringo is a weird one. IIRC he appears in three chapters and his clothes change pretty radically during the short time he has. Initially his shirt had a really high and stiff collar with a moderate err cleavage and showed his belly button. Towards the end the collar went all floppy and his shirt switched to being tucked in his pants with a super low neckline.

BTW I saw a picture of some guy sculpting his actual beard to look like Ringo and it actually worked out pretty good. Don't know if he ever made the whole outfit, but that's probably a thing you could consider.
