Old one fell off the board due to neglect.
Probably the wrong board to ask this, but how does self-doming resin work? Is it related to surface tension?
Anyways, this thread obviously includes resin, but what other indie crafts should we include? Metal clay/other clay crafts? Acrylic charms? Jewelry making? Felting? Pretty much any craft that isn't sewing?
Gonna dump some of my favorite hand-made items from vvstore to start us off

I love this artist's felt work (http://ysfeltart.theshop.jp) but her(?) pieces are definitely out of my price range (this one is nearly $500)
>>
>>9416025
felt fork is always super expensive, but it's understandable since its pretty hard to be good at felting.
pic related, i really wanted a floppy wizard hat for reasons, and these run around $300-500

I can see why. The shape is really nice.

I made myself a floppy witch hat for an event a few years ago. Came out pretty decent for a first attempt but I goofed on my sizing and forgot to account for adding wig volume.

How edgy.
>>
>>9416424
Yeah I understand the pricing and labor costs, I'm always impressed with the pieces people make. I'd love to get into it myself but I think I'm gonna stick to resin for now.
Btw there was some chart somewhere of better alternatives to clear nail polish (for sealing painted pieces, especially clay pieces) but I seem to have lost it, does anyone know where it is? Google is failing me
>>
Is decoden allowed here? Does anyone still do decoden? I mean, I haven't seen anyone with a decoden case since like 2013

No

It's an indie craft that's /cgl/ related, I don't see why decoden/fake food wouldn't be allowed

How do I make my own silicone mold and have it be smooth? I bought some mold putty from this brand but every mold I have comes out sort of rough. What am I doing wrong?
>>
>>9417015
I know. What i'm saying is lamps by reputable brands are expensive. Will a cheap chinese lamp burn my dorm down?
>>9417024
Cast it
>>
>>9417038
No it's perfectly fine anon.
>>
>>9417038
Alright, let me clarify. After I cast pieces in the mold using the yellow putty, the piece comes out rough instead of smooth. I'm assuming it's a problem with the mold. Please help me understand how I can make the pieces come out smooth.
>>
>>9417012
For that price. Anon could just buy the lamp from Hobby lobby. It's the one I bought and used the 40% off coupon on it. So the price came down to about $20. It's been working just fine for me.
>>
>>9417056
Hobby lobby's lamp is a pathetic 9 watts for $36 and I need a 36 watt lamp
>>
>>9417049
So to clarify, the way you are making the molds is by sculpting them out of putty and directly casting your resin pieces on that?
>>
>>9417073
No. I am using the putty to make molds of pieces that already have a smooth finish. When I cast resin in the new putty molds, the new resin pieces have a rough finish.
>>
>>9417086
That's not a good way to make a mold. You should be making a mold by casting silicone

They could possibly build a clamp stand to hold the flashlight in place. Or maybe a diy lamp box. Like something similar to this. But smaller, lined with reflective material (aluminum or whatever) and the top would have an opening wide enough to let the light shine through.

Why buy from a reseller when I can get it cheaper straight from ali/taobao/ebay? Although in my case I'm limited to sellers that take paypal so ebay it is then
>>
>>9417135
Sounds good, thank you. Is there a particular brand or type of silicone I should try out?
>>
>>9417221
Not OP but I like miniature sweet because I can get a whole bunch of things at once that I need, instead of trying to track it down in individual stores. It's more expensive, but if I'm only doing it occasionally then the convenience is worth it personally for me.
>>
>>9417235
I've heard of people using silicone made for caulking but I use Smooth-On Smooth Cast 300. I get mine at Blick so if you have one nearby they should carry it. It's great and I don't get bubbles in it
>>
>>9417221
Really cheap and fast shipping options (especially where canadians are concerned). You can also tell what's good to buy there, and what isn't. Big 10g pots of glitters, molds, large amounts of UV resin are all pretty nicely priced. Charms and findings not so much, as she splits them into like 2pc packs, so I still prefer to grab those from ali/taobao. And miniaturesweet takes paypal.
>>
>>9417256
I've tried caulking before and it was a total disaster. I'll look for smooth cast, thank you!
>>
>>9417259
How long does it take to get an order? I was thinking about placing an order for some molds.
>>
>>9417272
A week. It was only about 12 USD for shipping. Got well over $50 worth of stuff.
>>
>>9417086

Ok, so what's happening here is that the inside of the mold isnt completely shiny and smooth, at least not to the degree you need it to be. If you've played around with plastic ones you'll know that resin picks up everything (this includes any texture) so if the mold is perfectly smooth and shiny, you'll get a perfect cast as a result.
depending on the piece you could try doming, brushing on with a brush if you use UV but this is hit and miss, alternatively you can see what adding some glaze will do for you, as this usually fixes up a piece after sanding for me.
Best of luck!

>>9417295

Sanding and glazing lightly, I'd imagine.

I know etsy sellers specifically do need to count it as income on their taxes but technically in the US "an activity is deemed as a business if it makes a profit during at least 3 of the last 5 tax years, including the current year" so unless you've been doing this for a while or make a lot of money you can probably count it as a hobby.

>I've been to afraid to try anything with them because I don't want it to turn out like a shitty mess
My exact same feelings. Shit. I haven't touched resin before, and I've stopped doing sculpey years ago. I'm all for felting/crochet but I think I'll just end up making the bottles into "fortune" bottles - make tiny scrolls to fit inside the bottles, put them on findings, then call it a day.
>>
>>9417671
Yeah I found a bunch of tiny little molds made for 3D nails and plan on using them to make resin pieces to embed in other resin pieces. It's a nice bonus that they're clear, it'll cure better
>>
>>9417675
>tfw you're afraid to use your materials because it might come out crappy and you'd have to reorder from Taobao again
Now I'm just sitting on a pile of unused resin materials.
>>
>>9417656
Probably what you should have done in the first place?
>>
>>9417680
You're wasting them by not using them. Even people like >>9417615 probably started out like shit. Everyone has to practice and learn.
>>
>>9417680
You really just need to go for it anon. Some of my first stuff was pretty shitty. My current stuff is better but I still have a way to go. But I appreciate the stuff people share here and the input I get. I'd rather know if my stuff sucks cause then I ferl more determined to improve (and anon advice is always nice too)
>>
>>9417690
I agree. An anonymous setting like /cgl/ is the only place to get honest feedback because there is no fear of backlash. Sure you get comments that just say "this sucks" without telling you how to improve but people will only be honest when they are anonymous
>>
>>9417456
You were replied to before you posted this. I don't know why it never made it to you, but I assure you that I want nothing more than to have people wear and enjoy the same things I like and make. Let me know what you decide on Etsy.
>>
tfw you wanna sell your stuff but weird anxiety about pricing
>>
>>9418069
It's a lose lose game. You'll never price you stuff low enough that you'll please everyone without losing money and not making it worth your time, and if you price it what your time and materials are actually worth, there will always be cheapskates complaining how high the price is. Just do your best and try to ignore anyone who complains and isn't a customer.
>>
>>9418069
Materials + Time is pretty basic, but
something I've noticed in my business class is that sometimes you have to price things to where it wouldn't hurt you if they didn't sell? For example, if you put something on sale it wouldn't be a total loss and your other items would make up for that loss anyway?

Not really sure if it's practical advice for small craft businesses, though.
>>
I don't really understand some of the resin stuff... when you're just filling molds and findings made by someone else and maybe decorating them a little, isn't it sort of like selling a colouring book you finished just because you colour pretty good? I'm sorry this sounds really insulting, I mostly just want to know how you guys think about this.
>>
>>9418083
Just make your own pieces then and stop whining
>>
>>9418083
Well then what's stopping you from making your own resin jewelry since you hate the idea of buying it so much?
>>
>>9418089
>>9418096
Oh, that wasn't really my angle. I don't make resin jewellery and I probably would buy it if I thought it was cute. I just come from the perspective of drawing communities where I feel like people doing something equivalent to this would be frowned upon by everyone, but in this hobby it seems to be the norm. I'm wondering what it is about this particular art that makes it not bother people I guess? And why more people don't make their own molds? Is it just comparatively way more difficult?
>>
>>9418083
In case you're not a troll and actually just bad at communicating so you come off rude, I was drawn to resin because you can actually create some pretty intricate and interesting things. Filling a mold and putting some glitter in it is pretty basic and boring, but some Japanese artists can pull off some pretty different and amazing things with the medium.
>>
>>9418103
I guess if you want to make the drawing parallel, this is more like drawing your favorite anime character over and over again until you can figure out your own style and start making your own art. I'm agreeing with you, filling premade molds is pretty basic and boring, but not everyone does that.
>>
>>9418103
Resin isn't comparable to drawing anon. The materials we used aren't copyrighted. It's more akin to making collages.
>>
>>9417611

>posting that hot garbage of rainbow vomit
>>
>>9418083
To compare resin crafts to coloring books is silly, but I understand where you're coming from. You are using some other bits (pencil crayons) to decorate in molds (coloring paper); however, I think you're overlooking the thought process and practice of resin art. Also, who buys a finished coloring book? No one.

While it may look like people throwing findings and stuff into resin, the better artists put thought and care in where they place those findings. Also, what resin to use, how to mix, getting rid of air bubbles, etc. - it's not as simple as coloring within the lines. Pre-made molds are easier to use to start, and maybe later when the artist feels comfortable, they might start to create their own unique molds.

I speak as an observer, I like what they do. I'm no resin artist, but the things I've read about how they practice, work and struggle is like any other artist.
>>
>>9418105
I only do resin to sell pastel glitter vomit to underage gullible weeaboos who are too poor to afford the material to make their own pieces
>>
>>9418105
Lol. Thank you for the reply. Admit that I am not great at words. Am working on it.
>>9418108
Ah, so most people would use it more as a stepping stone for practice?
>>9418111
That's an interesting comparison, I hadn't thought of it that way. So the art is more about taking things that may or may not have been made by others and putting them together in a way that will make something new and better? That makes a lot more sense than how I was thinking about it. Thanks!
>>
>>9418117
I guess you're right, I've just been looking at finished pieces and pictures of molds being sold and didn't consider that learning the process itself might be a lot tougher than some other hobbies.
>>

>>
>>9418123
I don't know about most people? You have too wide of a selection here to know if most people are intending to use pre made molds forever, because there is so much you can do in this medium. I was just trying to fit in your analogy, which isn't perfect because you can't draw a direct parallel between resin and other mediums of art. I'm just trying to explain why resin cant be dismissed so easily like you initially posted.

Can I put real sprinkles in resin if they're embedded really deep in there? I can't find fake sprinkles in the shape I need
>>
>>9418344
You can embed anything you want, but if you don't coat or seal the sprinkles in anything they're going to probably start to dissolve in the resin while its curing and come out gross. Think of sprinkles in water but solid in the end.
>>
>>9418197
I have that mold. It's not the same.
>>
>>9418344
You can. But you're better off coating them first. Certain candy does much better in resin. I've done different candy and the harder candy stuff like nerds held up really well with no pre-coating. Sprinkles you'll want to coat first cause they kind of lose their coating faster.
>>
>>9418351
I'm using UV resin so the curing time is a few minutes. Should I use some sort of spray sealant to seal it? I feel like Mod Podge is a bad idea because it's water based
>>
>>9417381
>>9417371

There's a really specific, geometric, shape I need as a mold that I don't think I could sculpt neatly enough or find an existing object to make a negative of so I came up with this idea, do you think it would work?
>sculpt object in maya
>3d print it
>sand down printed object so its smooth
>use to make a silicone mold
>cast resin in silicone mold
>now i have a super exclusive mold and am the only etsy shop selling resin in this shape
>>
>>9418425
>ausfag detected
>>
>>9419209
Just make sure to coat the print reeeaally well in some sort of glossy finish if you want the resin to come out glossy. I've used a print before and even though I put about 4 layers of stuff on it the mold picked up every single tiny texture that the print had.
>>
>>9419281
What did you use to coat yours? Did you sand it down first? I figured I would sand it down in various grits, starting with the coarest and ending with a very fine one. My college has some 3d printers but I was thinking of just sending it to a commercial one like Shapeways to get a higher level of detail
>>
>>9418156

>>

Ready to use so you don't have to mix a batch like with epoxy
Little fumes so it's suitable for using indoors

Cons:
Expensive
Bubbles are a huge pain in the ass
Can only work well with clear silicon molds

Epoxy pros:
Cheap
Imo a lot easier to get rid of bubbles

Cons:
Requires a well ventilated room
Takes a minimum of 8 hours to cure
If you fuck up the ratios it won't cure right
>>
>>9419387
>bubbles are a huge pain in the ass
Did I fuck up by jumping straight into UV resin? I've never done resin before but I have some UV resin and a lamp on the way because I don't have anywhere well ventilated enough to do epoxy
>>
>>9419387
So which do you think is more suited for a noob like me?
>>
>>9419403
You'll need an emboss heater, or blow through a straw to get rid of most of the bubbles. But even then bubbles can show up while it's curing, especially if you add items that are porous.

>>9419407
I'd recommend starting out with Amazing Clear Cast resin since it'll only run you $14 on Amazon. You can decide if you like resin after playing around a bit before diving into UV.
>>
>>9419407
Personally. I find uv resin more forgiving since it doesn't harden until you put it under the uv lamp or sunlight, and it's premixed so no chance to fuck up your ratio.

If you're okay paying a bit more, go with UV.
>>
>>9418358
I use mod podge to seal paper pieces I embed and it works after it's dried, but a spray sealant would probably work better for sprinkles since you can just spray and forget it.
>>
>oh hey a tutorial for sealing stickers for resin, this looks helpfu-
>girl has world's most annoying voice
>>
Has anyone experienced your cured resin being cloudy? I know I followed all of the instructions, I think it might be my mold, as I heard if your mold isn't shiny then your resin wouldn't be shiny/glossy.
>>
>>9419873
Would you mind posting a photo? Cloudiness can be a variety of things, ranging from tiny bubbles in the resin, additives, or just a problem with the surface. Does it resemble frosted glass? It may just be a surface problem then
>>
>>9419873
Is it through the whole thing or on the side that was facing the mold? If it's just the side, it was the mold and can clear up with a coating of a clear varnish or doming with more resin.
>>
>>9419838
If it's the masking tape method, it won't work too well since it's too easy to not seal the sticker completely. It's safer to seal it with something like Modpodge.

Yeah. That's most likely your mold. I've had the same thing happen with certain molds(pic related). You can clear that up with glossy varnish or doming it with more resin.
>>
>>9419954
What varnish do you use?
>>
I can get away with using opaque molds with UV resin if I pour in thin layers, right?
>>
>>9420348
Yeah but even then you'll have to take it out of the mold and let it cure since it'll most likely still be sticky.
>>
>>9420547
Do you mean the very bottom? I'm gonna test all this when my UV resin arrives
>>
>>9420577
Yeah especially if you colored the resin very opaquely.
>>
>>9420585
So if I'm pouring opaque UV resin in a clear mold, I should also go in small layers to avoid uncured resin?
>>
>>9420620
Yeah definitely. You'll need to leave it in for longer too when using a mold.

You guys know Padico sells UV Resin on Amazon, right? It's the exact same price as anywhere else, and at least when I bought my last haul, it was even eligible for free Prime shipping. Don't confine yourself to these niche online stores. Sometimes, the easiest option is the most obvious one.

>>
>>9420980
I know, but I had an eBay gift card so I was gonna use that first. And I bought one of the big refill things which was cheaper to buy from a Japanese seller
>>
>>9420980
Padico is expensive af. I typically buy my UV resin from MiniatureSweets or from 1127handcrafter on Etsy since it only runs me $20-$35 for 125g and it ships in around the same time or faster.
>>
>>9420968
The vast majority are fine, but ive still seen quite a lot of people write their addresses weirdly/incorrectly or leave out information (such as house number or the unit number in an apartment). Also sometimes international orders end up getting sent back to me because the recipient never paid the customs fee, although a lot of the time when that happens they message me and ask why it hasn't arrived yet so I'm not sure what's up with that. Oh, and I had an Australian order a while ago that got sent back to me because no surname was on the package (I've sent out a few before that had no surname and they were fine) so I guess some places are more picky about that and it would be wise to get someone's surname before sending if they haven't provided it.

this a bit of a noob question but what do you use to hold in place pieces that are oddly shaped and cannot be laid flat when doming the back?
i have this cupcake piece that i was doming and i juryrigged two straws (cause thats all i had on hand) to make a makeshift stand to hold it in place. it had looked like it worked but when i came back to check on my pieces a few minutes later it fell apart and my piece leaked resin everywhere. what do?
>>
>>9423780
Dome it with UV resin since you can cure that in 2 minutes under a nail lamp. UV resin is expensive but if you're only using it for doming, it'll take you a while to get through the bottle
>>
>>9423780
I put the piece in a different silicone mold so it's sort of cradled. Make sure the piece you're doming is secure enough so it won't tip over or fall if the table shakes or anything.
>>
>>9423795
This. I mainly use UV resin for gluing pieces together.
>>
Has anyone tried, and succeed, in buying uv resin off taobao with an ss? Or is it just a bad idea altogether?

I'm not sure what craft store chains you have there down under, but Michael's a very common, mainstream craft store chain here that carries it in store. Check whatever your local equivalent of it is to see if they have it. My local Blick carries it in store. Also sometimes places geared at making resin countertops carry it.
>>
This is a dumb question but I figured I'd have better luck here than the dumb questions thread. So uncured epoxy resin is flammable right? Then why do people recommend using a lighter or heat gun to get the bubbles out, when both could easily start a fire?
>>
>>9425039
I work with 2 part resin epoxy resin and it is not flammable. Source: I have touched flame from a lighter directly onto wet resin and nothing ignited.
>>
>>9425043
Is only UV resin flammable then? Starting a fire would be really bad because I think my school would fine me for it
>>
>>9425039
Using a heat gun is totally fine, even for UV resin.
>>
>>9425055
A heat gun can burn wood, it's probably not a good idea to use it on a flammable liquid
>>
>>9425039
I've ran a lighter over uv resin and it's never caught fire. If from what I'm reading, it's actually less flammable?
>>
>>9425060
It won't set anything on fire if you're not stupid. All you have to do is pass it over the resin for a couple of seconds. You're not leaving it on for an extended period of time.
>>
>>9425060
You gotta keep the gun moving, don't fix it in one spot, you just need to pop some bubbles not roast it. I only need to hit my pieces for 3-5 seconds at the most when using my heat gun.
>>
>>9425060
Also epoxy resin isn't flammable, and anons are saying UV isn't either.
>>
>>9425073
My UV resin bottles are all labeled with the flammable icon, and after digging a little deeper, resin is flammable but at temperatures of 200 degrees F or greater.
>>
>>9425039
Polyester resin is flammable, not epoxy.

One of two things happens in those cases.

They 1) do ask themselves if they would buy it and they would usually because they have shit tastes and buy tacky shit from other shops, and because they are making it they believe "they" would pay more for it than they really would.
Or
2) they have friends and family who insist they should and could sell the crap that they make. The people encouraging them usually have shit tastes and lie about how much they would actually spend on the item or would honestly pay for things that look like shit.

Eithet way it is a case of the question being asked and then answered by people who have shit tastes and would actually buy ugly, poorly made crap.

I know they have to be transparent so it cures correctly. Clear silicone is somewhat difficult to find and expensive, and I have my eye on "SORTA-Clear" right now (pic related) and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it
>>
>>9428691
I've had "okay" results with regular Silicone I caulk from home depot. Cures pretty fast and makes pretty decent molds, though I think any issues I have are probably due to shitty masters instead of the silicone itself. It HAS to be Silicone I, though, otherwise it won't cure (I've tried).
>>
>>9428712
From my experience trying to use caulk to make molds, it doesn't work well and I don't think clear caulk would be any different. I'm willing to shell out for clear silicone, but I was just wondering if anyone here had used it and found it easy/difficult to use since the only brand I can seem to find is Smooth On SORTA-Clear

How do I color areas on a plush, like in this pic (the brown on the bear's nose and paws)? Is it done with pastels, dye, or something else?
>>
>>9428805
I'm going to assume pastels but again that's just my assumption. I also wonder how well they stay on, and if they can stain?
>>
>>9428813
Thanks for the input. I was wondering that, too.

I've used Smooth On Mold Star 20T platinum silicone, but Im still kind of a noob with my own casts. Assuming the sides aren't too thick it should work for UV resin. Retains all the details of your pieces and molds well, as always be aware of bubbles while mixing and pouring. I don't have any other experience with self made casts and materials, so I can't give any other advice.
Please have a good ventilation system, I thought my cross breeze/2 open windows would be fine but it wasn't.

I accidentally got UV resin in my mouth and it tastes like the dentist's, will I be okay?
>>
>>9429631
How the hell did you get resin in your mouth anon?
>>
>>9429633
Tried to multitask, did not work. Seem to be fine. Can't read moonrunes but since I'm fine I probably don't have to call poison control

Ahh! I remember seeing your first time on here and then following you on insta! Glad you're still around!
>>
>>9429631
As long as you didn't ingest or swallow it you're probably okay.
>>
>>9419346
Why would you go coarse down to fine and not the other way around?
>>
>>9429941
Why on earth would you think to sand something fine to coarse? That doesn't even make sense if the point is to make something smooth in the end.
>>
>>9429941
In what universe do you live in where it makes sense to sand from fine to coarse?
>>
>>9428805
Alcohol based markers (like Prismacolour) work. It doesn't rub off too badly but if you get it wet it might be a problem.

People use that technique to dye wigs (whole wigs by soaking them and streaks and gradients and such by drawing on the wig directly with marker).
>>
>>9430148
Thanks I hadn't heard of that. I'll experiment with it. I wish there was something more permanent. I wouldn't wash or rub the plush, but a buyer might and then be upset if it transfers.

I feel you anon. And I'm not done yet, I need to get some bezels and findings and more molds. I never have enough molds

Experimenting with UV resin for the first time and the charms I just got. Technically the key isn't an open bezel, but I bought them so I could use 'em as such. I feel like no matter how long I leave them under the torch, the resin feels...unfinished. Not quite sticky, but almost? I'm probably going to dome with generic epoxy.
>>
>>9433208
What wattage is your torch? And I usually leave them for a little bit after curing because they due have that weird residual stickiness probably from the heat.

So I bought this mold without reading the measurements thinking it was a lot smaller and that I could use it to make a pendant with other resin pieces embedded in it and it's fucking huge? Like the size of a tennis ball. Any idea what I should do with it? I don't think it's food safe, otherwise I'd use it to make a huge ice ball. I'm just using it for storage now
>>
>>9433208
Try leaving them in the sun for a while (at least 10 mins on a sunny day in direct sunlight) and then see if its still sticky
>>
>>9433326
Are you the one that made >>9415691 ? I'd love to hear/see how you made those, they look great. The blending is nice.

Are you trolling? >>9415691 is obviously from a Japanese crafter.
>>
>>9433374
Nah. I wish. I'm trying to figure out how she got such a clean cast. I've almost perfected the process via a LOT of trial and error but the biggest issues are sticking the two halves together and air bubbles since I can't use heat on it without melting the capsules and a straw causes resin to go flying everywhere
>>
>>9433379
>asking questions is trolling now
How is it "obviously" from a Japanese crafter? Are only Japanese people allowed to use that text now?

>>9433386
Dang. Still, neat.
>>
>>9433396
Well no, it's just got Japanese info printed on the card, I thought it would be incredibly obvious to anyone actually inspecting the picture to see how it was done and figured you were being deliberately dumb. Don't be so defensive anon-chan.

Maybe paper weight if you don't poor all the way so there'd be a flat side to it? I honestly like perfectly round things to hold and fiddle with, so unless you can make desk ornaments like that... A resin sphere that sits on a wooden ring or a cushion sort of thing.

The emperor would bring these with him while travelling to signify his status and legitimation through god (hence all the crosses)

Can I ask your guy's opinions about dyeing resin with acrylic paint? I'm very new to working with resin and I just wanted some opinions if you guys do it, or why you don't do it
>>
>>9435515
Won't cure properly. Don't waste the resin or the effort trying. Best stuff to use to dye besides actual resin dyes are chalk pastels filed into powder, or other powdered things, such as eyeshadow.
>>
>>9435515
I tested this out not too long ago actually using UV resin. The piece did not cure properly, which was unfortunate because the color was nice. I recommend using pearl powder instead.
>>
>>9435523
Fun fact, easter egg dye also works and makes interesting speckles due to not dissolving fully - more of a tint.

>>9435515
Alcohol ink works pretty well. Dries fast, though.

Anyone know how to go about making a miniature stained glass made out of an actual metal frame? I suppose soldering with a LOT of solder would work, but i'm sort of stumped on the glass.
>>
>>9435515
convenient, i just did a test of this last night. pulled it out of the mold and it's pretty hard. i used barely enough to cover 1/8th of a toothpick and it came out nice. i don't know about long wear but for right now working with it in my hands sanding it is turning out alright.
i'm using easycast clear casting epoxy.

if you want to try it, do it with something where you'll use a minimal amount of resin in.
(i'd take a picture to show mine but it's a trial-and-error test piece with doming and random glitter, it's kind of a mess with all the colors lol)

another method to color resin that has worked out well for me is loose eyeshadow (or just scrape out a cheap container) and mixing it in. (make sure to mix it thoroughly though, since you can have clumps if everything is not mixed in perfectly.
>>
>>9435908
Do whatever you did with your rings?
>>
>>9435913
I regularly use eyeshadow to dye resin. Cheap dollar store palettes can be useful for it. Though if you can find actual loose pigment, you won't get the lump problem.

I've got alcohol ink to try out next.
>>
>>9435908
Laser cutter + acrylic? I don't doubt you could get those pieces custom-made if you had all the parts separated out.
>>
>>9435908
>>9435908
You could literally do stained glass and paint the details. But easiest would be a translucent sticker paper print

You should make a "dings and dents" item instead - discount them by 50%+ or similar and state "sold as-is, no guarantees, slightly off merchandise". Doesn't necessarily have to be all the same object, just the same price point like a grab bag.
