Don't see a lot of mori kei on this board, what's the general consensus? It's something I'm getting into as I try to move away from cosplaying and want to have more special coords for conventions but I don't think it's as popular as it used to be.
>>9412969
Having just really started to dig into the mori style myself it seems popular - just a less vocal or organized community compared to Lolitas. There doesn't seem to be much by way of local communities with events just for mori girls.
Most the mori people must be too busy sketching in the woods to fuss with being online. :p
(Pic related kind of. I love old hairstyles with mori)
>>9412969
There used to be active mori threads some time ago, but now the fashion seems to be dead together with the discussion of it.
There are still some mori comms on facebook but most are not very active. I think in general those who wear it are more inclined to solitary hobbies and don't seek out big community events like lolitas. Which I kinda dislike because it makes finding new inspo and coordination advice trickier.
i thought id never see another mori thread as long as i live

Finding some good images at least at this taobao shop:

everything is suspiciously reasonably priced

It'd be fine if the ig tags were actually tagged properly but 90% of the shit under mori kei or mori girl is pretty bad.
I'm so happy to see a mori/natural kei thread! Nice unexpected surprise...
>>9414456
I want to be more low-key than Lolita meets but I still want to have meetups and hang out...
Specifically in the woods, hunting for mushrooms and watercoloring. Why is this so hard to do?? Eating cute little lunches and having tea out of an old thermos next to a creek... Sigh.
>>9414560
She looks like the amish ladies up in PA --- It made me laugh.
It's not great but I thought I would contribute some OC... This is what I wore to go to farmer's market this week on a somewhat chilly and windy day, as well as class but for that I wore a thrifted light denim bag with lace and brown details instead of the book-shaped purse.

I love that skirt. <3

Really cute anon
Sorry I can't post any pictures at the moment. I might post some later!
Has anyone seen any mori or natural clothes in any normie shops? I need some new clothes pretty bad and the only decent second hand store in my area went out of business.
>>9416335
if you dont mind the price tag and the ethics ive picked up some good blouses at anthropologie
Looking for some good movies and books that fit the mori-feels.
Kind of a weird pick but I'm watching Matilda tonight, and it kinda works for it. Specially some of the paisley dresses Ms. Honey has.
Next pick is Tuck Everlasting.
>>9416530
the Moomin books and tv show are my go-to mori media. Snufkin is peak mori boy.
>>9416404
Oh yeah, that shop's too expensive for me, and there isn't a location in my area anyway.
Could this be mori boy?
I feel like if you aren't thin you look like a sack of potatoes in mori style

A sack of potatoes does sound pretty mori
I love shironuri mixed with mori
that ghostly forest creature look is stunning

I second Moomins. Also Studio Ghibli is always great of course. Garden of Words and Wolf Children are pretty nice as well.
As for books basically anything fantasy or folklore related tends to fit pretty nicely. Lately I've noticed some people on my Goodreads friends list picking up Angela Carter's book of fairytales.
Does anybody have a good guide to mori acceptable hair products? I've been trying the baking soda and apple cider vinegar shampoo routine, and it's working good as a base but I'd like to add more. I've seen people recommend Honey and Lemon to add to the vinegar, using some carrier oils like jojoba and Argan as moisturizer, salt and glycerin for volume, as well as many other things that seemed ridiculous. Anybody got a reliable source or actual experience?
The honey for me has a weird effect that I can't fully explain. I guess I'd call it structure, it gives my hair more structure, makes it wavier and stand up a bit more.
>>9418284
baking soda shouldn't be used long term for your hair/scalp, it'll wreck it. look into an ethical organic + natural shampoo brand or something.
Band recommendation: 羊毛とおはな

Are there any good hama-kei sources online?

I'm a guy, but here's what I have been using on myself and on a friend of mine who I am a caretaker for for years - we both love it, it's gentle on the hair and cost-effective.
shampoo: mason jar filled half way with raw honey (we use nature nate) and halfway with liquid castile soap (unscented dr. bronner's). Incredible lather. You can scent it with essential oils, or you can use a scented dr. bronner soap (or make your own soap - I make my own liquid castile soap now but we're trying to use up the leftover before we try using my soap on hair and not just on the body).
This soap is alkali, so you have to use something a little acidic as a 'conditioner' to smooth your hair out again. Here's what we use:
2 cups of distilled water, bring it to a simmer, remove from heat and add 1.25 teaspoons of citric acid and 4 bags of chamomile tea. Let steep for 30 minutes. When it's cooled completely, add .25 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin and .25 teaspoon of vitamin e oil (optional). Add essential oil for scent: we do 20 drops of orange, 10 of ylang ylang. Put in a spray bottle and spritz wet, shampooed hair. Leave in for a few minutes and dry as normal.

I disagree, I think garish face paint really goes against the whole concept of the fashion.
>>9427051
this is so sweet & relaxing
I feel like it's either really nice/natural/freespirited looking, or like old women, or imadeercosplaydesu. It's rarely pulled off well.
>>9418284
Just use regular shampoo :/
>>9429502
I think sometimes it just has to be adapted to suit the individual person, their body type, colors and cuts that flatter them etc. to keep the look pretty and youthful
>>9416335
I tend to find mori-able stuff at second hand clothing stores. At those I go to there are always a lot of light dresses and shirts and big sweaters that are loose on me, ponchos etc.
>>9412969
We used to have them regularly but mori has been pretty dead for the past year or so, plus the threads were always the same few images because Western girls don't post or look good and there's no dedicated magazine to pull scans from.
>>9430143
Seems like most blogs stopped updating around 2012 or 2013 so it's been quiet for a while now. Wonder Rocket switched out from having mori to larme(?) or whatever back in 2014 or so too, cawaii moved onto otona in the last two years and favorite's been sort of holding the torch but has had otona creep in as well.
Mentioning those brands in particular because they were the cheapest points of entry aside from thrifting to get a mori-styled outfit together very quickly.
Even the taobao brands seem to have stalled as a result of the shift in the japanese brands since things like slxi were basically factory direct sellers of the things that favorite and cawaii would put out.
I don't think there are any mori exclusive brands anymore now, so it has become more difficult to generate new inspo as you mentioned. Pretty sure people are still wearing it, they're probably just not the type to take outfit shots or post them since there's no supporting community/brand/media system like lolita has.
Current project I've been doing --- Anyone working on anything? (Doesn't have to be embroidery)
>>9427399
Ẁhoa. A-are you single by any chance?
>>9432621
My boyfriend and I are meeting up next weekend :)
>>9432531
I really like how that is turning out. Nice drawing too. I've been wanting to get into embroidery but really don't know where to start. I do knit and make soap though - I'm the anon in these posts.
One of the things that drew me to the mori style was the lifestyle implied by the clothes - I love domestic life, nature, and hand-made things
>>9437227
>>9427399
>>9437238
I feel the same way about how certain lifestyle choices and hobbies are reflected through the fashion! I got into it because I love those sorts of things too.
In addition, I've read people say that mori kei is "not really practical for actually being in the forest," but I think it is often perfect for leisurely hiking or nature walks, and the loose long layers are a good way to protect your skin from the sun when you spend lots of time outdoors as well.
>>9417360
pretty sure this is dolly kei, guys.

The mori thread always makes me feel so nostalgic I miss mori girl so much!!!
If anyone is interested in more mori feeling music; ichiko aoba, popoyans, kotoringo, yeye, and sachie hiraga all have lots of nice songs! There are a few more I know of but can't think of off at the top of my head but if anyone wants more I'll come back and share some!
>>9437238
Thank you very much! Just start with something small on a little hankey, that way if you loose interest it's ok --- and if you don't, then you get immediate gratification of a project well done!
Knitting is a skill I am not allowed to attempt. I've seen those yarn hoards people get. Soap is cool too!!
>>9438851
Thanks for the suggestions. Austen is a favorite of mine already.

Thanks!! <3

Does anyone use the Amino Mori groups? Or anywhere else? Everywhere is just so quiet and I'd like to actually talk about stuff without the thread possibly sageing out.
What do you guys think about this sort of fairy-tale-oppulent style with Mori? Mori tends to fall more simple...but I love the idea of details and pieces growing with wear as you find a new bit of lace or have an hour to do some extra embroidery...
>>9441293
And I like the idea of an opulent fairy-tale style thing... I think the lace appliqué is probably a bit much, but I love the small beaded-looking areas - they remind me a little bit of sashimi repairs, which is something I want to incorporate into my style when some of my stuff starts breaking down.
>>9441293
I think adding extra embroidery, beads, or lace etc. by hand is a great idea. It could also help bring some more flavor to a plain outfit, or make a fairly normal item of clothing more mori-appropriate
>>9441737
I think you mean sashiko repairs! (autocorrect is a bitch!)
Here's a pic for those who might not be familiar
